The Canine Condition Documentary Series S1 Ep2: Down in the Deep South

In the one traffic light, southern town of Ellaville, Georgia, population 1,585, Pam Dixon, founder of Deep South Canine Rescue (DSCR), finds time outside her small house-cleaning business to combat the daily onslaught of abandoned dogs seen roaming the streets or dumped in the deserted countryside. With no animal control or local dog shelter in her town to rely on, and a dominant hunting culture to contend with, animal rescue is a constant uphill battle. In this episode we help DSCR save dogs Jake & Buddy from a life on chains.
Pam’s mission is to save as many of these misplaced dogs and to find them good homes even if it means sending them out of state. Seeing the faces all the puppies and dogs we are leaving behind is heartbreaking, but we leave Pam with the knowledge that the world will now be aware of her mission and hopefully her rescue organization will get the exposure it deserves and the support it so desperately needs.
This documentary series will highlight the amazing, grass-roots work that people are doing to save and improve the lives of dogs in need all over this country. Through their stories and actions, we will show you what change looks like and what the sheer power of will and desire - not just money - can achieve. Throughout the season you see us take part in the actions that are saving dog lives. We volunteer, donate, foster, transport and advocate for new legislation. Every episode will leave the viewer feeling hopeful, inspired, educated and empowered. This is how we affect positive change and create the tipping point in our society: one story at a time.
