    Marks boardslides in vid days make so much more sense now that we’re seeing he was doing them regularly 4/5 years previous. Also stoked that Mark seldom seemed burnt on being the guy, he’s been a top tier performance artist giving the people what they want for 4 decades.

    That Footage of Gonz destroying the Harlem Banks is insane!!! That place was hard as f%ck to skate way back then, especially with a board with almost no nose.. It had a massive lip for coping (if thats what you could of even of called it) and it was not the easiest to work around in any way shape or form. Most heads that ventured there just sat and watched the select few daring enough to attempt to attack that coping. I can not even grasp how he did what he did there in this footage way back then.. Gonz, once again has just blown my mind for the 1,800th time!! THE GOAT!!!!

    so this pre dates Ed Templetons 5050 circle-A ad 88? in santaana federal building which by the way in 91 when i started skateboarding this handrail was taken out i think you can still see the patched up cemented holes we lost the famous banks there in 2012 i think

    • @tomlotti240
      @tomlotti240 Před 7 měsíci +2

      If I'm understanding the discussion about the topic correctly (history of grinding on rails), the idea with that circle A ad is that it was first one in an ad, or in print. Even here though Danny Sargent (legend!) is referenced as well 'cause there's a photo of him too.
      As an aside, I can remember vividly when I first saw that circle A ad, and being awestruck, staring at it in disbelief, thinking that I really wanted to try it (tried working my way up to a handrail by finding spots that had metal poles, but never found a handrail I liked. So it never happened). Not making this about me or anything, but just saying that seeing that stuff was so inspirational.
      This was great. Nice to see Felix A. (We're waiting for the Nine Club episode, dude!) Was wondering about the runway for the rail. The night footage makes it difficult to tell how Gonz is rolling up to it. That look of wonder on the bicycle messenger's face. See. Skateboarding is awesome!

      @edotsuki1979 Před 7 měsíci

      @@tomlotti240 this is funny because in santaana we didn't like Felix Argolious because the spot we are speaking ed's ad Felix was a Jerk to us, rhythm guys always around or Felix was with Ortiz so everytime we see him in video we call him "bubble butt'

    Dope shit. Felix is one of my skate hero’s from my early teens. I have a son named Felix. It’s more based off of jaco pastorius son Felix but Felix the skater was def in the mind when I named him. My Felix skates now. So stoked🤎. His siblings didn’t take to it and I’d quit dreaming of a skate kid til he started dragging my board out and riding it all over the place. Love these interviews and all the insight.

    • @TimandVic131
      @TimandVic131 Před 7 měsíci +2

      In a lot of the footage it seems to be a prototype Gonz ‘N Roses. But if you look at the Paul Mittleman photos of Mark at the 23rd St. Banks(bank to barrier, sometimes called the Chelsea Banks), Mark seems to be riding a board that’s not only more consistent with his “Face” model, but also seems to look like a longer wheel base. Almost like a long board. I know Mark has always had a penchant for longer wheel based boards. So I’m not exactly sure what’s going on there. No idea what Mark had in his quiver on this trip. But I would suggest studying that Mittleman photo of the backside grind on the barrier because the trucks look sorta like Variflex trucks. They almost look backwards. Or like modern day long board trucks. A lot of interesting things going on with this little slice of history.
