Nice wood, never liked the angular receiver on these, much preferred the swept action, just looked sleeker and more flowing.

I've a A390 Sporting , it'll shoot everything reliably from 24g up , with 21's it'll occasionally get a failure to feed.
I've no worries about putting standard steel through mine , I just don't use anything more than half choke.
I love using it , it's a great gun . I use it for pigeons and ducks and occasionally clays if I have someone along who is recoil sensitive.

Just bought a AL 390 sporting from a older gentleman from my gun club. Excellent condition. He sold it to me due to his health condition and he never got into the sporting clays. Looks brand new. I've never shot clays before. Looking to start a new game.

I might be wrong but lead shot was banned for waterfowl hunting across USA in 1991. The USA gun and ammo market as we know is by far the biggest and most important market for gun makers worldwide so even by the early or mid 90's most Beretta shotguns were steel proofed. This was the time period that the "universal" chambers for 76 and 70mm chambers became common place as the use of steel demanded a bigger shot volume payload. Until the Beretta A 304 which was the predecessor of the 390 -and not the 303 as most people wrongfully believe - most autoloaders had 70mm chambered barrels. If there was a need for magnum 76mm shells one had to buy a second magnum barrel and in many instances a second gun - as for example was the case with Brownings. Nowadays autoloaders shooting light 70mm target loads and heavy magnum or even super magnum 12 gauge shells are the norm but when the Beretta 390 came along in mid 90's it was a revolution and a miracle. It was touted by Beretta as the most versatile - yes versatile was exactly the word used in the commercial material of the time-shotgun being able to shoot reliably and interchangeably every 70 or 76mm cartridge thanks to its universal 76mm chamber and a piston valve that vented away the excess gas , even still being able of shooting steel having steel proofed barrel and chokes. Some say that the Beretta 390 is a bit nose heavy but if one takes balance out of the equation it was the first modern autoloader and along with its successors dominated the market for quite a few years. Now that I search the internet I am informed that lead shot was banned for waterfowling in the UK first in 1999. That is almost a decade after the USA and five years give or take after Beretta shotguns had started to be steel proofed. It is a fact that some times even knowledgeable and well meaning people- as the presenter of the video clearly is- provide inaccurate information about something because they get trapped in the borders of their country not taking into account the greater international scheme of things. The fact that the model A304 was not imported to the UK or was imported in very small number does not mean that it never existed. The year that UK banned lead shot for waterfowling is irrelevant to big companies like Beretta since in the global scale of things the most important gun market which happens to be the USA had moved to that direction almost a decade earlier.

Are you really sure about that a390 barrels arent steel proof? I have same gun but a390 standard model (12/76) and it is steel proof. Just dont use tighter choke than mod for steel shot. Even the chokes are marked for steel shot proof.
