    A tip from an acid reflux sufferer. Try Gaviscon Canadian or English version, it contains 250 -1000 mg of Sodium Alginate which forms a gel raft when taken which floats on top of stomach contents. This raft prevents stomach acid from leaving the stomach, it works for about 4 hours a dose. The United States Gaviscon uses Aluminum hydroxide instead which doesn't work.

    How can you say that PPIs are "so safe"? Is there not a host of problems that arise from lowering an already too low level of stomach acid? Osteoporosis, SIBO, pneumonia, increased risk of heart attack to name a few.

      They are generally safe when used short term up to six months. At least this is what my doctor told me. You don't want to take these drugs long term.

  • @CavalierNSN
    @CavalierNSN Před 2 lety +7

    See, this is confusing. If a PPI stops stomach acid production (albeit for a while) and must be taken before I eat, what happens when you need it? Like when it's time to break down the vitamins I take? This presentation gives me no confidence that I'd be absorbing things properly or even breaking down the food I eat properly. Isn't that what indigestion is? We are talking about the second step of the digestive process. If you don't have the acid to destroy pathogens and breakdown what you ate what good will it be in your small intestine? Your colon? There's got to be something else I can do.

    • @randydueck6870
      @randydueck6870 Před rokem

      Youre absolutely correct. While this presentation has some useful facts, it dances around the very serious issue you just stated. You know why? Because PPIs are the #3 top grossing drug in America. Anyone who fails to mention the serious side effects of PPIs is either mislead or bought and paid for by pharmaceutical money. Watch more Eric Berg and Ken D Berry type videos and research the heck out of alternative treatments. There is hope. My doctor friend who actually cares says that 50% of his GERD patients get better with just apple cider vinegar. Its worth trying everything before bowing to PPI pill pushers.

    I never felt heartburn. I was at the physician’s office and said I had difficulty in swallowing sometimes. She sent me to a gastroenterologist who performed a “scope”, and I was diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus. Been taking omeprazole for more than a decade, and I wish I was allowed to stop.

    • @tinac9212
      @tinac9212 Před 2 lety

      Get another test for your condition. Look for new treatments for Barrett's esophagus. Look up side effects of taking PPIs for so many years. Get your magnesium level tested periodically if you really have to continue taking PPIs.

I saw an ENT 3 weeks ago who said I have LPR and prescribed PPIs, but so far no effect and I still cannot eat solids. Due to COVID precautions, I'm having trouble getting appointments to get swallow study and GI testing. I didn't know the connection with progesterone. I had a new Mirena IUD inserted for my endometriosis about 6 weeks before this all started. I tried eliminating the suggested foods to puree but that also hasn't done anything and I've recently resumed those foods and feel better stress-wise. I was slim but am now underweight so I can't do the low fat diet.
