for subtractions that result in negative numbers, i've always figured everyone understood the simple method of subtracting the bigger number with the smaller number then putting the negative sign on. apparently that wasn't the case with gura - she had to count her fingers to make it work. her adorable goofball brain is an enigma to me.

Hey i’ll admit it, doing math with negatives involved confusing, and there has never been a day in my adult life where I had to add or subtract a negative with a positive number
To solve this problems easier just change every + by - and every minus by + and change the sign of the result: 3 - 7 = ? 7 - 3 = 4 ← 3 - 7 = - 4 1 - 8 = ? 8 - 1 = 7 1 - 8 = -7 This is due to a multiplication by -1 3 - 7 = x -(3 - 7) = -x, multiplying both sides by -1 -3 + 7 = -x, solving the multiplication 7 - 3 = -x, reordering -x = 4, solving the rest -(-x) = - 4, multiplying by -1 again. Multiplying by -1 does the same as dividing by -1 but it is far easier to think in multiplication that division. x = -4, solving the multiplication 3 - 7 = -4, substituting x by its value.
