  • In this video I go over the sales numbers of the Nikon Z6III mirrorless camera and what this could mean for Nikon when it comes to camera marketshare vs Canon and Sony.
I predicted the Nikon Z6 III being the most sold Nikon in history. Will the Nikon Z6III be that camera that puts Nikon over the top? Nikon is making waves in the photography and videographer community with the Z6III camera. Don't sleep on ‪@nikonusa‬
I also talk about why I call out ‪@froknowsphoto‬
I try out a new ‪@viltroxofficial‬ lens I got from Viltrox for Z mount
    and more

Polin's last video on the unboxing of the Z6III was pretty positive. He has tempered his opinion a lot since the Z6 days. As an owner of both the Z6 and Z6II, and now having an order in for the Z6III, Jared's complaints of the original Z6's AF capabilities was justified. He certainly has a bias against Nikon now, but at one point he was a Nikon fanboy, and there are fan boys for all brands. Jared does produce some pretty good videos and usually quite entertaining. It is important to realize that he is an entertainer first. For Canon and Sony users, his camera reviews help to validate their system choice, and if he gets additional views by knocking one brand over an other, he will do it. I cut him some slack, but do understand that his opinion is not gospel.

IDK if I'd say he's tempered his opinion since the Z6 days. Maybe he did, but only because he was losing followers probably. I still find that he (along with the Nortups) like to take jabs at Nikon whenever they get the chance. Even if it's subtle things like "While the Z6 III is an outstanding camera, but [the] Canon..." If he's not talking about camera gear, then he's fine (like when he does his photo reviews / critiques) those are fine for the most part.

Jared is such a fraud. He even says Sony is behind Canon in autofocus. Nobody believes that nonsense. While I don't always agree with Vahagen, he's right in pointing out Jared is sponsored by Canon and, as a result-is biased. My apologies in advance if I misspelled your name.

Vahagn, great video and thoughtful comments. First, thank you for saying "Seth said it best" on autofocus. I watched his livestream and love his unscripted -- but intelligent -- take on things. I would love to see you and Seth do a livestream. You are the only two people I have heard say this word on a regular basis: "community". That's why I watch you and Seth. Genuine passion with a touch of NY and LA.
Seth also said this best: Nikon could have "strangled" the features on the Z6III but instead chose to "innovate". It's not a parts-bin camera. It is feature rich at this price point. Nikon went after the profitable middle-market and delivered an exciting camera. Some may say it's priced $500 too high. It wasn't intended to be a $1,999 camera with these features. Others will say it's missing features that $3,000-3,500 cameras have. It's perfectly targeted at the $2,500 buyer who will value the features it has. If it doesn't fit a budget or feature expectation, then don't buy it. Thanks again for the great content. 👍

"I'm a Nikon fanboy." That's what I tell people when they ask my opinion on camera systems and which one to buy into. The Nikon Z6 III is very much eagerly anticipated so the reaction has been incredible. I have my pre-order in. My Z6 will stay as a backup camera for videography and as a time lapse camera (love the built in intervalometer - wait, Sony cameras don't have that built in? LOL!). I've been a Nikon user since I bought a Nikon FE2 in 1983, brand new. I've tried other systems. My cousin was a Nikon person, too, but when everything started going to digital he switched to Canon as they led the industry for DSLRs. He now wants to come back to Nikon but he can't afford it. That brings up a good point: most of the people who have pre-ordered a Z6 III or are thinking about it, are existing Nikon users or people who want to come back to Nikon after experiencing the "other two" (Sony and their terrible ergonomics, poor design choices, crappy menus. Canon with their indecisiveness about where to put their controls and their insistence on making their cameras look organic). Did Jared Polin's videos affect actual sales of Nikon cameras? They probably have. Did his comments bring to light the fact that Nikon has been trying to catch up with regards to AF performance? Yes, they have. Have his comments caught the attention of the Nikon higher-ups who drive product development to try to do better? Probably. I believe that was his goal when he pointed out these issues and I truly respect his opinion as he has used all three systems and he has experienced the shortcomings of all of them then he points them out without worrying about pissing off a sponsor. I do not believe that he is sponsored by any of the big three camera companies or any camera company. Will the Z6 III bring Canon and/or Sony users over to Nikon? I highly doubt it. It's a great camera but if you're invested in a system then it's hard to change due to financial reasons. It might draw in new camera purchasers but we Nikon people are outnumbered so it's a losing battle. Remember, Nikon is a camera company that makes electronics and other things. Sony is an electronics company that makes cameras. Canon is Canon: they have a lot of quirks. For me, I'll stick with my beloved Nikons.

He is right in that Sony and Canon have slightly better autofocus. Though, the importance of the difference is highly exaggerated. Anyhow, there are so many features that reviewers no longer talk about or play down. Lowlight performance is one of them. I don't think all these experts are aware that there are still species out there that we do not have proper photos of in the wild. They come out at dusk and move so quickly that only a great lowlight performing camera can capture them. This I realised when visiting Madagascar a few years ago.

I must point out though that I took a break from the channel when you chose a few times to step out of the photography space and dabble in politics. I tell anyone who asks me what camera they should buy to go to your camera store or brick and mortar store and pick them up. Hold them in your hands, bring it up to your eye, look at the back monitor, snap a few pics and see which one feels the best. If you’re happy and excited about the one you’re holding you’re gonna wanna take it out more and use it. The top 3 or 4 camera makes are making fantastic cameras with all kinds of features. I’ve been shooting Nikon for almost 30 years starting in film and currently shooting with a Z6 and Z9 (I’ve ordered my Z6III and can’t wait!). Nikon feels great in my hands, I know the layouts and menus, the quirks and its strengths. Do I think one is better than the other, no. I think they’re all great companies and you just gotta know what your needs are and which one will get you out shooting. Great video, just hope I don’t have to wait too long before mine arrives.

Jared was a Nikon guy long time ago but they didn’t do something he wanted and he went with Sony . But I don’t think he will give it to Nikon even if the product is good. Jared list me right after he ditched Nikon for Canon and started bashing Nikon. I'm not a Nikon fan boy but that's where most of my money is invested. I believe in the Nikon system. The whole system. From the mount all the way to the color science and to the ergonomics. Yes they have been behind on some things but they have come back strong. I still think a mirrorless d500 needs to come out soon. Almost jumped ship back in 2019 and I remember testing out Nikon Z6 before deciding with Canon R6/R5 or Sony A73 or A7R3. Z6 wasn't there but good enough to keep me on Nikon side. I still got the shots and images needed with my Z6, not falling for those let your camera decide for you with eye AF...my gut feel and decision paid off, got the Z9 pre-ordered that beast when it was released why not best flagship camera (D850+D6+Red camera = Z9). Now I just need some of those features in a smaller body, I skipped Z8 since I already have the Z9 for my pro shooting needs and Z6III comes full circle with my original Z6. For wide on Zf, I can use adapted AFS 20 1.8 G or Z 14-30 f/4. I have not tried adapted AFS 16-35 f/4 yet.

I take Jared and Casey as entertainment. Never to be taken seriously on most things. I don't know what Nikon did to make Jared mad, but he is still clearly biased against them. Also, within seconds he has to mention that he uses Canon cameras in studio. A sure sign he's getting something, even if only gear, from Canon. I'm sure Sony has a deal with him too. Canon and Sony AF may be slightly better in a few situations, but not enough that you will ever miss shots using Nikon. It's an influencer's world unfortunately. It took trying out almost everything to make my way back to Nikon. The Z8 is a beast and I highly doubt I will ever need anything more. I hope Viltrox keeps putting out lenses for Z mount like the Pro series 75 & 27 f1.2. Specially for FF. I already own the Nikon 40mm f2 so I don't need that 2.5, but it's a great option for beginners that want a cheap 40mm lens. I'm gonna wait on the Z6III until demand slows down. No camera is going to get the AF accurate 100% of the time. Most would be happy with a 90% hit rate. If you're expecting 100% all the time you're setting yourself up for disappointment. We may come to the day when cameras can read your mind and focus exactly on the target subject or point. Considering the frame rates and file sizes/bandwidth it's amazing what all of today's digital cameras can do. Just go back 10-15 years ago and you will see how spoiled we are today.

People should really look for reviews from people shooting in their own genre. Wildlife and sports shooters are going to have different experiences with AI autofocus than portrait and event photographers. Most cameras are more optimized for humans anyways. I think it still makes sense to compare cameras because of this. On V's comment, you don't have to use the same lens you just compare the body and lens systems for a certain price/subject range. Like for wildlife I would compare Z9 with the 180-600 vs A1 with 200-600.

I know exactly what you mean about "that jab" CZcamsrs often do the same to Lumix cameras every year.
Unpopular opinion: the Nikon Z6 III is a fantastic camera, but aside from the partially stacked sensor, Nikon didn't innovate significantly. Nikon trying to make a big splash witj the Z6III, they actually risk cannibalizing their higher-end models by packing so many high specs into the Z6 III. These advanced features are only necessary for a small group of professionals. In reality, there are more users who would benefit from a Z6 III than a Z8 or Z9. Simply adding more specs to attract buyers can backfire because if your mid-range camera has too many high-end features, it diminishes the need for your more expensive models.
Camera brands need to strike a balance between specs and features. Sometimes, features are more critical than raw specs.

@@kbarrett1844I hear you, and I don't disagree. I just think they didn't balance it well enough. They went all specs, no features. Camera brands need to focus on features because just chasing specs is a dead end. What happens when we get 6K 120P no crop in a sub $3000 camera? We need innovation, not just specs. With the Z6 III, it's gonna be hard for anyone to want to upgrade for years, which is both good and bad. I can see Nikon having to do what Sony did after the A7SIII-just abandoning the camera to push people to buy other models.

The primary reason they may be warning people about being sold out / backordered is so they can at least claim they warned people, and so they don't endure the same scenario they had with the Z9 and like what Fuji has been experiencing with almost all of their products (being sold out).

@@jklbd4815 I'd agree but I think if you look at just the performance, the Z8 is the better value. If you feel that a second CFE slot, built-in grip, GPS and NIC card are worth an extra $1500 then it might be, but if we look at the performance specs overall, the Z8 is almost a no-brainer at $3500, and almost makes the Z6 III look a little overpriced perhaps. The Canon (which was $2500 when released) is about the same but now about $1999 on sale, and more importantly, Canon may be releasing the R6 III probably sometime next year (late next year) which will up the game again. But it will probably be another 2-3 years before Nikon updates the Z6 line again (to a Z6 IV). It is a game of leap frog, but I almost think that $2500 is a bit much considering they purposely gimped the Z6 III to help differentiate it against the Z8 (ie. the "partial stacked sensor"). They could have done a fully stacked sensor at 24MP and it would still have been enough of a distinction. But "partially stacked" almost sounds like they half-assed it. And they sort of did. Not to mention a 20% increase over the Z6 II may sound good on paper, but then again, not really, when you figure the Zf which is $2000 greatly improved AF over the Z6 II (and is probably only 5-10% behind the Z6 III at least in the AF department).
