  • Two months after his sacking Malcolm Allison was a spectator at the Palace-City league game. After the match he had some less than complimentary words for his successor.

Haha, that's the best and most concise answer ever to anyone who tries to roll out the same old tiresome rubbish about middle-of-the-road managers who finish mid-table every year with a "small" team.
"Young man, don't mention the word 'consolidation' to me. Show me a manager who says he wants to consolidate his team in a higher division and I'll show you a fraud. People like that are frightened and shouldn't be in the game." - Brian Howard Clough, OBE
Two great men, both sorely missed, RIP.

Exactly. None of those guys took over established top division clubs. They had to build their teams from scratch, fearlessly fight their way into the higher echelons, and find a way to win against all the odds, which they did time after time. The fear factor has taken over these days, it's tragic. Nobody takes pride in toppling the giants anymore, and top six is seen as a great achievement, even for clubs like Everton. Agreed about Moyes, he's the most successful unsuccessful-manager around.
