How To... Perform Simple Linear Regression by Hand

- Learn how to make predictions using Simple Linear Regression. To do this you need to use the Linear Regression Function (y = a + bx) where "y" is the dependent variable, "a" is the y intercept, "b" is the slope of the regression line, and "x" is the independent variable.
This video also shows you how to determine the slope (b) of the regression line, and the y intercept (a).
In order to determine the slope of a line you will need to first determine the Pearson Correlation Coefficient - this is described in a separate video ( • How To... Calculate Pe... ).

This is by far the best tutorial on linear regression I’ve ever seen. I have such a hard time remembering formulas. I wish my professor would let us have a list of formulas on tests.

I am sure your professor is good, but the difference is that we as students disrupt the class so much, that sometimes the teacher gets sidetracked. Besides, when someone looks for help on the internet, they already have a pretty good idea about the subject. So, don't be so hard on your professor.

Indeed this video's efficiency is high, but we find these better than our professor because we're paying attention when we're looking for things.

Exactly as it is. Commendable, as is enlightenment expressed by the comments below. Funny thing about 21st Learning (aka using technology for everything) is that clear explanations accompanied by working-by-hand is the best teacher, the ultimate fall-back for quality education!
