- The Yamaha C3 is perhaps a ugly duckling. But underneath the plastic is a great fuel injected hog that leaves the competition behind. If you want a great 50cc this is it. quick, reliable, agile and just so darn cute.
I tried out a 2009 Yamaha C3 today and will be purchasing it. It has over 2500 miles on it. The price is pretty decent. $1200.00 for it.
The Giggle (C3 in France 👌) is really cool.

I bought the - stock height - underseat storage bag, some saddle bags, a rack & top case, plus bag for holding a quart of oil & liter of gas on the rack over the bug eye head lamps. I’ve brought back 35 lb bags of dog food, 3x5x42” box of garage door springs, plus a 40-50 lb statue of a bulldog, lashed to the foot area of my Ruckus. I put rear pegs behind the seat to change the riding geometry, as well as putting highway pegs out from the foot area, that I didn’t like so much; but turned out great for tying packages to. There was only two weeks in SW Ohio that I didn’t ride last Winter. Haven’t modded anything to speed it up yet. It’s a great commuter around town. Rode it 120 miles to pick up my truck that I left somewhere when I bought a 650 for out of state trips.Rucki are great!

Yeah, it's deceiving. The trunk is very shallow.

They seem to be a little rare.
Yeah, they don't come up for sale very often. The last few I looked at were pretty rough and the sellers wanted almost full original retail for them. But, they're good as gold.. the precursor to the now Zuma 50F. I had a Zuma 50F; seats 2 with plenty of room, but not as funky looking as the C3.
Yeah I agree the C3 does look cool. Both Honda and Yamaha make great scooters and both have advantages. The fuel injection is a big advantage. Thanks for the video.

John Christian you can buy a lot of stuff for that man. like two of my rt50s made with the same jog50 motor and made in the same country. but I like the c3 personally if you find one at a good price
they will go 50k miles easy. best part? those 50,000 miles only need about 500 gallons of gas, total. also, you dont need to register or insure it.

The engine is the best part, 3v four stroke fuel injection. Makes a healthy 5hp. I'd say the biggest flaw are the brakes, but you can do a front disc swap on these I believe so there is aftermarket support

I liked your post. I've had Kymco, SunL, still have Vip, Tao Tao, and am looking at buying something new this week. Kinda wanting 2 stroke. Tired of customizing GY6. My stolen Kymco was 2 stroke. I wanna build a 2 stroke up.

I ALMOST purchased one, but I bought a Honda CHF50S (Metropolitain) my Honda's storage capacity is amazing and super comfy.
The Metropolitan is great too. I haven't had a chance to ride one. But the new one 2020 at IMS show is a great little thing. The engine in the scooter is strong.

I think they look cool. But it’s a 4 stroke. And realistically you’re at 95% throttle the entire time so mpg’s are actually around 100-110, still not bad!

I would recommend older 2-stroke Yamaha aerox. They are good looking and have almost everything this bike has or more. Also they are really easy to tune being 2-stroke.
aprilia and peugeot too, around 600$ used where i live and they are amazing
if you like smelling exhaust and the noise level.

you should be able to download any map app on your phone. I like to use maps.me because its like google maps but offline. I also like the garmin 376c.
Vehicle Hunter laws in my state says I cant ride on the interstate I don't really know what a interstate is I'm only 15... can u explain when I look up short trips it said US50 n roads like that is that a interstate

There is a helmet lock at the front of the seat cargo area to lock your helmet to. You don’t need to keep a helmet in the seat.
just thinking if it rains, the rain water could get helmet wet?
paul bunyun The way it sits, it doesn’t expose the inside of the helmet, but I also don’t ride mine in the rain anyway. It’s kept in a garage and I’ll use my car if the weather is bad.
I love the C3, but I thought that Yamaha discontinued it. Fortunately, the newer 4-stroke Zumas/BWS are the same motor configuration. 🛵💨
They did, i guess it didn't sell well. But thats the reason you could get great deals on them.
The Zuma's seat height is too high for me. The C3 lets my feet reach the ground. No one thinks of short riders.
how is it on little hills from your experience?
It slows down like most 50's going uphill. But in this area there are not many mountains to climb> I've taken it on hilly rides and it does bog down quite a bit, but thats the nature of the beast. a 100cc scooterw ouldnt have that issue.

quick question... so do you have to premix the gas since its a two-stroke? or because it has fuel injection does it have some sort of separate tank that you put the two-stroke oil in and it will automatically work that way?
lemme know I'm loving the classic look of that scooter just wondering if I'll have to measure and mix my gas or if I just need to top off the oil container when I fill up with gas as well?!?

No it is a 4 stroke scooter.
It's a modern 4 cycle (stroke) scooter. You'd have to get one used, however, as Yamaha quit making them. No oil to mix with fual required. Straight gasoline.
What is the c3's top speed?
It's about 40mph, probably a. bit lower if you have less air in the tires.
Yamaha Zuma is king of 50cc scooters. I buy/sell them. Ruckus are okay but basically no storage.
I like the zuma's styling. Is it fi? 4 stroke?

Vehicle Hunter, for the 50cc zumas: 2011 and older zumas are 2-stroke, air cooled, and carbureted. 2012+ are 4-stroke, liquid cooled, and fuel injection.
Alex Leal, yes. Sadly, 2019 is the last year of production for the 50cc Zuma in the U.S. market. The 125cc Zuma is still made for 2020.

The horn is high pitched for city use. Lots of low pitch noise, so high is better.

I am a fan of the Burgma 400 and Yamaha Tmax 500. But don't discount 250ccs, that seems to be the real magic number in Maxi scooters.
Get 150cc or big bore kit 49cc to 80+

I have a 2011 more room under the seat, my helmet and my oversized tennis racquet fit in there tho not at the same time. Faster and better than Honda, love it.

It was the same scooter, engine and what not, as the Zuma. The Zuma sold better so they discontinued the C3. Zuma is a great scooter. Liquid cooled, 3 valve, 4 stroke fuel injected, Ceramic coated cylinder, 115 mpg. I got the C3 in 2011 because I wanted to look like I can only go 40mph when I can only go 40mph ;-)

I believe there's an adjustment screw on the back of the horn, you couldn't make it a deeper tone if you want.
look up the yamaha aerox that is a nice bike and you can really wheelie it super easy

it's all what you like, i don't like the idea of a front drum brake or the under seat storage looks like it should be much more than it is, fuel injection is a good option, i don't like where the gas tank is located must have a fuel pump unlike most that are gravity fed with vacuum assist, more expensive if has to be replaced. most gas caps i have seen on more expensive scooters are like that, like i said it's what you prefer, on 49cc scooters i prefer 2 stroke only because they keep up with traffic better, on bigger 4 stroke is fine.

That was a lot of negatives for the best scooter out there...
Even a regular old QMB139 based China knockoff have some of the things ya said ya where missing like bigger storage compartment, flat floor. And they also come with gasgauges.
I'd say the Yamaha C3 stands out because of it's design, not it's utility, in that regard there is many more scooters that does the job better.

They are sold under different names in other countries... But if talking USA they are sold as TaoTao ATM50-A1.
Cheap China scooter but with awesome storage capacity and having everything you need.
I would never say it's the best scooter, that rly depends on what you want from your vehicle. (Like some people won't accept anything other than two-stroke) but I do think that the TaoTao shines in the areas you said the C3 could do better in.

its so boxy, the front would be perfect with a front rack, tail box panniers on the side and boom! you gotta camping scooter. Also, 125-150 cc would been better

the scooter looks good but there are some drawbacks that need to be removed, for e.g., the canal on the footboard which is otherwise big, must be removed, the dicky that looks like a trunk has no big enough space, it is shallow and therefore not of much use, the lid of the petrol tank is given at the footrest which is quit odd; it should have been at the back of the seat.In short, the scooter needs to be reworked and the company avoid these short comings in the next version of this scooter, finally the milage is not known.
I've done a couple tests of the mileage and they are pretty good. But i agree, it has some flaws. One of it's major pluses is

This is a 2008 scooter. So its been on the market pretty long. When you look at it in regards to sales, it did not do very well. But also the reason it's a great buy in the used market.

Right, that would be true if at 2:38 the useage of the handle wasn't clearly demonstrated.

So, which points really make this one "the best scooter you possibly can buy"? As far as I can see, apart from OK looking headlight,this really has nothing special going for it.
Fuel Injection, super reliability, cheap and very practical to own. Fit and finish is much higher than any 50cc i've seen. With its wide thick tires it makes the scooter more comfortable. Wide seat makes it more comfortable and easy to live with.
