The wheel didn't break but it looks like the steering hydraulics did. The wheels instantly turn to the right when it lands and never return to center, and you can see the inside of the rear left is wet, and I'm assuming hydraulic fluid is what's burning on the pinion brake
@rydoggo probably hitting the rear break to send drive to the front wheels where it's needed to balance himself. May have an open centre diff which in the case of rear wheels in the air, would send all drive to the rear wheels.
I met Anderson in Reno when I was a kid I won a contest to sit in the Grave Digger truck, man. I was so little, I only really remember it because of the photo they took of me in it

I was just getting into the whole monster truck scene back then. But, and that is my own opinion (I'm not a mechanic and have two left hands when it comes to cars), I think BF just had a hole different setup than GD or any of the monster mash trucks. I think, GD could survive that jump too, with the right setup.
Man, I used to love monster trucks. Makes sense why Gravedigger is everyone's favorite! All of his drivers are actually insane with how they handle him.
They were all family members for awhile. Growing up around Grave Digger and having Dennis Anderson as your father probably helps a lot. Him and Tom did a lot for monster jam.

@W1mp1am the brake disks are mounted just before the dif on front and rear. They only have 2 rotors for the truck. This is common in heavy industrial equipment and off road applications.

It's a pinion break. They get really hot because they spin much faster than the wheels.
