    I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and wanted to say thank you for taking the time to put this very informative review together. At present in Australia we can get the Ruger Marlin and SBL, both are selling for around $AU2,300. The first shipment of the new Marlin 336 should be here in the next couple of weeks. Personally I was waiting for a Stainless 336 in 3030 to be made by Ruger but don’t even know if that will even be produced. Thanks again, just came across your channel by chance but have now subscribed, keep up the great work. 🇦🇺👍🇺🇸

    This is a brushed stainless finish instead of the high polish, chrome'ish finish they did on the 19" barrel SBL. It looks way better. The bolt is still high polish chrome which is good.

    Purchase a new Trapper about 2 years ago
    Replaced the birch stock with a Marlon laminated one
    Replaced the skinner sights with factory Iron Sights and added a Willliams Fire Sight and cutout hood.
    Removed the cross safety and added Beartooth Safety delete
    Added a Wild West happy trigger and aluminum follower for magazine
    Added a Warne tactical rail scope mount
    Warne QD lever rings with Leupold 1.5x5 scope
    Replaced the Big loop lever with a standard lever.
    I handload with 350gr Speer and 48.0 of IMR 4198 ……great gun !

    The aperture sight takes advantage of the wave aspect of light. Light passing through the aperture forms a dark cancellation node in the exact center. Try sighting through almost any fairly small clean hole in almost anything and you will observe this node. Your reflex action is to line this node up with the front sight. My Trapper is at my ffl and I will be picking it up on Monday!

    Picked one up Thursday - live in CA and bought online for about $150 over retail. I have not had a chance to shoot it but the fit and finish of the rifle is excellent. The action is good but not as smooth as I expected based on some comments and reviews I had read. My Marlon GBL built in 2017 as a smoother action, granted it’s been worked in quite a bit more and I added a Ranger point precision medium loop lever, so maybe that’s the difference

  • @BeingFireRetardant
    @BeingFireRetardant Před 2 lety +9

    Marlin levers are still a work of functional art. Ruger just engineered it to be even (more) reliable.
    When you're drowning in a sea of AR's, Glock's, and the same shade of beige vinyl siding as your next thirty neighbors...
    It's time for a stainless steel, solid, all American made big bore lever gun.
    It's literally the stick shift, 760hp 1968 1/2 Mustang Fastback of payload delivery systems...
    The rifle your girlfriend told you not to worry about.
    That definitely looks good, but can still drop a Bison or Kodiak at 275 yards...

    Surprising, you did not mention the re-design of the loading gate which now allows for unloading without cycling the firearm with the lever. You just push in the loading gate and the last round in the tubular magazine is ejected out. The process can be repeated as necessary until the magazine is empty.

      If a Skinner sight is rotating you can use a small triangle jeweler file and put a very slight slot in the threaded section for the set screw to find home in. Of course, make sure that slot is exactly 90 degrees to the sight axis ;). Thread locker 242 works also.

    Not sure about the other states but in Maine you can hunt whitetail with a .22 mag (never met anyone who does, though) so the .45-70 is definitely OK to use. Question: do you think it will come out in blued steel and wood stock? I hope so. Also, it does have a half-cock safety feature as well, correct? I'm so used to my Win 94 that a safety will throw me for a loop! Cheers from Maine!

    Just curious, what are the pros and cons of a suppressor with a 45-70? Or also a muzzle break?

    • @ericc3327
      @ericc3327 Před 2 lety

      So with a good suppressor and the right ammo this rifle is Hollywood quiet. All you hear is the hammer and the impact of the bullet. Not hard to load a 400gr or more bullet to stay below the speed of sound, or there is some commercially available. Hits about 3x as hard as a 9mm with a much fatter diameter bullet, probably good to 100ish yards for hunting although supersonic is of course a better choice. Adds length and weight to the front.
      The muzzle break makes it loud and much easier to handle. The hotter loads in this hurt on both ends.

    If the bullet is faster and the trajectory is flatter, why would the impact be lower? It should be the opposite. Bullets don't climb. They only drop. Very simply, the flatter the trajectory, the less drop @ a given distance. So if you were aiming the same with both rounds, how did the flatter, faster bullet hit the target lower??
