This guy is most likely the best no-nonsense gun reviewer on CZcams.
Thanks for watching!
Agreed
A well-made Marlin... It's been a long time. That goes on the wish list for sure.
As an aside, Skinner peep sights are outstanding.
One of the best tabletop reviews of a firearm I've seen. Really appreciate it.
Have this on the “One day. A fella can dream” list
I have it on my "one day" list too. Maybe One day they'll have them in stock
Get one man it was expensive but been worth it so far
I have this on the one day I can afford the ammo for it list.
I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and wanted to say thank you for taking the time to put this very informative review together. At present in Australia we can get the Ruger Marlin and SBL, both are selling for around $AU2,300. The first shipment of the new Marlin 336 should be here in the next couple of weeks. Personally I was waiting for a Stainless 336 in 3030 to be made by Ruger but don’t even know if that will even be produced. Thanks again, just came across your channel by chance but have now subscribed, keep up the great work. 🇦🇺👍🇺🇸
This is a brushed stainless finish instead of the high polish, chrome'ish finish they did on the 19" barrel SBL. It looks way better. The bolt is still high polish chrome which is good.
Excellent, no-nonsense review! Plenty of useful facts and information, zero fluff. Much appreciated.
I really enjoyed a very well done introduction to an iconic rifle (at least in New England) Marlin, Ruger and Winchester has been an intercal part of the landscape.
Purchase a new Trapper about 2 years ago
Replaced the birch stock with a Marlon laminated one
Replaced the skinner sights with factory Iron Sights and added a Willliams Fire Sight and cutout hood.
Removed the cross safety and added Beartooth Safety delete
Added a Wild West happy trigger and aluminum follower for magazine
Added a Warne tactical rail scope mount
Warne QD lever rings with Leupold 1.5x5 scope
Replaced the Big loop lever with a standard lever.
I handload with 350gr Speer and 48.0 of IMR 4198 ……great gun !
Got mine in mid 2022 . Had a small defect in the front stock/ grip . Called them up and had a new grip and hardware in 3 days . Awesome costumer service. I’ll be keep this rifle for life
I miss living right down the road from you guys but love seeing the videos, great job.
I placed my order for the 1895 SBl back in January 2022 and for the Trapper in late April i hope to get them sometime in this century.
Great review! I went out and bought one of these in large part because of this video!
Great review, great tip at the end for those who’ve never shot a 45-70.
I just Bought this rifle . I LOVE IT .It handles well and i will be buying the SBL next the barrel in a few inches longer
You're a very professional and knowledgeable presenter Allen, I always look forward to your next review. This Ruger made Marlin 1895 SBL Tracker is absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure the quality is superb! Thank you for the presentation! Look forward to your next video.
Just paid $1500 for mine. Kinda steep but I'll own it until I die.
Excellent. Way to go Ruger. Well done. Good review. Very nice.
Beautiful rifle, bonkers price.
Thanks as always.
The aperture sight takes advantage of the wave aspect of light. Light passing through the aperture forms a dark cancellation node in the exact center. Try sighting through almost any fairly small clean hole in almost anything and you will observe this node. Your reflex action is to line this node up with the front sight. My Trapper is at my ffl and I will be picking it up on Monday!
I own one and it’s absolutely the best fitting rifle for me I’ve ever had.
Thank you for the information and video. I am going to wait until they make one in 45 colt, at least I hope they plan on making it in 45 colt
That's gorgeous. I have my 1895g to my son for his birthday, I need a new one.
I own several ruger prducts. I have purchased this ruger marlin trapper. Looking forward to getting to know this rifle.
I need one of those in my life .
I quite enjoy your presentations.
Such a cool little rifle.
Picked one up Thursday - live in CA and bought online for about $150 over retail. I have not had a chance to shoot it but the fit and finish of the rifle is excellent. The action is good but not as smooth as I expected based on some comments and reviews I had read. My Marlon GBL built in 2017 as a smoother action, granted it’s been worked in quite a bit more and I added a Ranger point precision medium loop lever, so maybe that’s the difference
Marlin levers are still a work of functional art. Ruger just engineered it to be even (more) reliable.
When you're drowning in a sea of AR's, Glock's, and the same shade of beige vinyl siding as your next thirty neighbors...
It's time for a stainless steel, solid, all American made big bore lever gun.
It's literally the stick shift, 760hp 1968 1/2 Mustang Fastback of payload delivery systems...
The rifle your girlfriend told you not to worry about.
That definitely looks good, but can still drop a Bison or Kodiak at 275 yards...
Love this description, very spot on!
Love that it's a carbine length.
I really looking forward for the new 1894 cambered in 44 mag.
Great video. Thanks . I have a trapper on order and should be in my hands soon. I have a question regarding the nickel coated bolt. I use hoppes # 9 in my guns. Is it best not to use #9 since there is nickel plating on that bolt ?
Might be wiIIing to try another one of these. Bought a MarIiin guide gun stainless about a dozen years ago and could not wait to take it to deer camp so aII the guys could check it out and test it. Second shot with factory ammo the receiver came apart, thanhfuIIy no one was hurt. They wanted to repair it, I refused and demanded my money back to which they complied. A huge disappointment as I love Iever rifles, and own a few Winchesters. Perhaps I wiII try again.
Just ordered one from Bud's Gun Shop. Should arrive soon.
I’m waiting for the model 336. The 30-30 is one of my favorite calibers. As usual, great video sir.
Its next
Love my 336ss remlin. Id really like to see the Ruger make
Everyone wants a 350 legend for deer this year in Ohio. Just bought this gun. Can't wait to use it in 45-70
Great review 👍👍👍
Surprising, you did not mention the re-design of the loading gate which now allows for unloading without cycling the firearm with the lever. You just push in the loading gate and the last round in the tubular magazine is ejected out. The process can be repeated as necessary until the magazine is empty.
Great review….👍🏻🤠
Wish you guys had some, would make the trip
Love them . .😎👍
LEVER GUNS . . !
I had the remlin one the skinner sights were always turning sideways. Hopefully they have the trijicon sights as an option when ordering. I wanna st least be able to see my sights in low light
If a Skinner sight is rotating you can use a small triangle jeweler file and put a very slight slot in the threaded section for the set screw to find home in. Of course, make sure that slot is exactly 90 degrees to the sight axis ;). Thread locker 242 works also.
It’s beautiful.
I want that same rifle in 44mag. I hope Ruger reads this.
Not sure about the other states but in Maine you can hunt whitetail with a .22 mag (never met anyone who does, though) so the .45-70 is definitely OK to use. Question: do you think it will come out in blued steel and wood stock? I hope so. Also, it does have a half-cock safety feature as well, correct? I'm so used to my Win 94 that a safety will throw me for a loop! Cheers from Maine!
Yes, has the half cock feature.
I'm sure that will sell well
Nice rig
I hope they make it in 44 mag, I'd like to get if they do.
I have an Remington Era TSBL that holds 5 in the tube
my favorite gun in my safe :)
@Text ①⑥⑤⓪④③④②⑤⑦⑨ o yea im totally falling for that seeing as i do business damn near weekly with these guys lol
I love the Marlin 1895 series. Wish I knew where I could actually buy one without paying $600 over MSRP.
Gun broker. Shop around. I just bought one at msrp.
Beautiful rifle. Insanely priced.
Agreed, but instead of waiting for the prices to come down I put my name on the waiting list.
@@TT-ch2pz I have the ported guide gun made in 2001 that I added express sights to. Total investment is about $800
Im good to go. 🤙🏻
Hoping you get your rifle soon.
Not really, though.
@@borkwoof696 Msrp isnt crazy. Real world selling prices most certainly are insane. $2500, C’Mon Man
@@ironhorse127 That is not what we sell them for. They're still tricky to get consistently for now, but I think you will find our price much more reasonable.
Do you have the 1895 sbl in all weather in stock...if so I'll stop by and pick one up!
Good looking carbine...
Just curious, what are the pros and cons of a suppressor with a 45-70? Or also a muzzle break?
So with a good suppressor and the right ammo this rifle is Hollywood quiet. All you hear is the hammer and the impact of the bullet. Not hard to load a 400gr or more bullet to stay below the speed of sound, or there is some commercially available. Hits about 3x as hard as a 9mm with a much fatter diameter bullet, probably good to 100ish yards for hunting although supersonic is of course a better choice. Adds length and weight to the front.
The muzzle break makes it loud and much easier to handle. The hotter loads in this hurt on both ends.
I want the Marlin 444 to return and the 30-30 to come back ...
Great review! Capacity is 5+1 not 4 rounds…
Correction- It's a 5+1
good gun
I love lever action rifles
as someone who doesn't hunt, why is there a limit to the amount in the rifle when hunting?
Picked up mine today,,,can't wait to shoot it.
Love how ppl keep saying 45-70: only good out to a few hundred yards lol
❤❤❤❤
So, what is the MSRP?
i saw this on store today and wanted to grab home,,,but then after talking with the shop, he mentioned 3 dollars for a bullet...yikesss...thats expensive ammos for buyng ammos. might as well have this gun as display only
Good luck finding one at msrp
I wish they would do the Trapper in a takedown.
Totally want this!
Isn’t this rifle 5+1 not 4+1?
If the bullet is faster and the trajectory is flatter, why would the impact be lower? It should be the opposite. Bullets don't climb. They only drop. Very simply, the flatter the trajectory, the less drop @ a given distance. So if you were aiming the same with both rounds, how did the flatter, faster bullet hit the target lower??
Iron Sights Rule.
Thought it was 5+1
Норм
It would be better without the cross bolt safety, so I’ll pass.
10 months later and these are still unavailable.
For deer???!
Bears, goat's, deer......yeh yeah.yawn but Can you use it on a T-Rex though?... 🤣😜
A 2016 or newer Remington made 1895 CB 45-70 with the 18.5” octagonal barrel, 6+1 rounds, dark walnut stocks, is superior to both models Ruger has put our so far. Please get a hold of one of these and you will see what I am talking about,
It needs a real wood stock.
living on the east coast sounds like it sucks for hunting
The quality isn't that great from marlin sense ruger bought them. However my Henry is top notch quality!
Actually it’s much better quality under ruger than with Remington lol. I’m not so sure a Henry is better pal but if that makes you feel better then sure
To bad Marlin feel into the hands of a anti 2a company.
15 yards with a rifle?! Come on man...
I got my hands on one at the local gun shop, stiffest action of any firearm I’ve ever handled. Total turn off.
Gets kinda old hearing people say can be used on whitetail. You're going to remove meat with that cartridge.
👍🦜 Actually, The MSR for the trapper doesn't break the bank. More than some, less than others. Well worth the investment in my book.
Nice Review.. Thank you.
