He died on December 1, 1916, almost accidentally after an assault by marauders, what may be considered a contemporary desert father. He wanted to found a religious order and in life failed to do so. He refused to be what was required of him from time to time by family and circumstances: model student, valiant soldier. He chose the hidden life, silence and mystical prayer. In his image all the "failures" of history can be recognized.
