  • Tsai Kun-lin(蔡焜霖) was born in Ching Shui, Taichung on December 18, 1930.
After graduating from Taichung First High School in 1949, in order to take into account his family's finances, he didn’t go to college, instead he started working at Ching Shui Township Office. But in the next year, on September 10, 1950, he was suddenly arrested. It turned out that when Tsai was in Taichung First High School, he had joined the reading society hosted by a junior high teacher and attended a couple of times.
Tsai Kun-lin was accused of "joining a rebel organization" and "spreading leaflets," and was tortured to extract a confession. Under torture and coaxing, he was forced to sign a confession. On November 19, 1950, he was sentenced to 10 years and deprived of public rights for 7 years on charges of joining a rebel organization. On May 17, 1951, he was escorted to the New Life Correction Center in Green Island and released on September 9, 1960.
After being released, he met his former teacher, Mr. Yang Ming-fa. Yang appreciated Tsai's talents and not only encouraged Tsai to date his daughter Yang Pi-ju, but also introduced him to "Eastern Youth" as an editor. Later, Tsai went to Kuo Hua Advertising to work. In December 1966, he initiated the "Prince" magazine bimonthly, also helped the Taitung Hongye Junior Baseball Team to participate in competitions in Taipei with other fellow inmates at "Prince".
Unfortunately, due to two consecutive typhoons in 1969, the publishing's binding factory and printing house were flooded. In the case of poor financial turnover, it had no choice but to declare bankruptcy.
After experiencing a lot of difficulty, Tsai Kunlin decided to struggle again. He later worked for Cathay Life Insurance. In 1987, he returned to Kuo Hua Advertising until retired. He could be seen in many human rights activities from then on. In 2014, a story was aired by Public TV under the name "White Prince", his life on the Green Island and beyond.
