I wonder if kindom hearts 2 and zone of the ender 2 count as "character action games"
just one thing tho, god of war in not a character action game anymore. it's just an openworld story-rich game filled with sweet baby inc all over the place for modern audience.
story-rich is agreed on I think, but I'm still of the belief that the new GOWs are still character action games, just with an emphasis on other things now like its story direction and RPG mechanics. they may not play like OG GOWs but most of the genre conventions are still there I feel
I don't want to say it's the "best genre" as much as I love it. I don't want to think that way about entire genres of things. But it is certainly heartening to see love for it and for (new) fans to come in and find love and interest. Hope that this video can help with that.

For new games in the genre, have you put your eyes to the likes of Soulstice, Enenra and Genokids?

Okay, first? This is a really solid video, what the heck. Why are you sub 100 subs?
Second, I have a question that might get me flack... Um. Would you count games like Kingdom Hearts or Ratchet and Clank in this? Ratchet and Clank is a helluva reach, but if you get into the game and choose the higher difficulties, there are some very fun things to do with gun combos. KH is... well, KH2 onwards is kind of all about gradually unlocking more of what your character can do and making crazier combos.
My issue is that they're nowhere near as technical as DMC can get, let alone Nier: Automata. And presumably Bayonetta? Was surprised when you didn't mention this.
Okay so I read this message earlier this morning and after giving it some thought I think I have a couple of ideas, so I'll just throw it out there that whenever I was first thinking of making this video, I had humored the thought that by all technicalities Kingdom Hearts does count but it does that genre mixing thing so I guess it would be more accurate to call it a character action RPG and I came to that conclusion by rationalizing the same points you made.
Now whenever it comes to Ratchet & Clank I'm a lot less sure on, at the Baseline RC is a platformer series with an emphasis on combat, but I don't know if the combat specifically lends its way into the character action genre even considering deadlocked (which is super underrated imo) I just don't the gameplay fits that description exactly
Also with regarding Bayonetta I haven't actually played that series yet, but I have been meaning to, I just didn't want to try and explain a game I haven't played yet lol
@@Princemouse9 Yo, I LOVE Deadlocked. Glad to meet another fan- yeah, it's a very different game, but I will never not love that game. So, SO many hours in that one. However, I also wasn't very set on it being included in the Character Action genre, I was merely wondering if anyone else got that vibe too- so thank you for humoring me.
As for Kingdom Hearts, Character Action RPG is... downright perfect, yeah. I'm glad that I commented, I honestly thought you'd think me crazy. XD

I agree at 6:50. I hear so many people say its good, and its not. W oponion honestly.
Also if you want dmc 5 but the hype is turned up to 14, play metal gear rising revengeance(the game made up that term) its like dmc if you wanna get sweaty but the combat flows very well into eachother so you can have normal fun. It has a few techs and the dlc's are hella fun, and free
Ah damn I ment to mention revengence too. It helps that metal gear storys are always good as well
