ONE guide to RULE THEM ALL!!!
took me many moons to per chance upon this 1. I suffered through countless annoying music video formed 'guides', 1's where they tell you what to do while showing you little more than a cheesy view where you catch glimpses of what exactly they are doing.
A couple came close but were the wrong system setup, there are at least 3 or 4 different systems just for this ps3 fat!

You didn’t change the thermal pads? Also did you put thermal paste on the heat sync too?
The old thermal pads were just fine. When applying paste you only have to apply it on the chip. It applies itself on the heatsink once assembled.
I did a full restoration last week on this exact model. I cleaned everything, including the motherboard with 99.9% IPA. I put on new thermal paste and put a new battery in. However, the retention clip broke on the motherboard for the optical drive ribbon. So, no more physical games.. Here's my question- I tried Netflix, Prime, and PSN, and it didn't get past the black screen. Did I short something out somehow?
The apps require the disc drive logic board to be connected. I would try fixing the clip.

hi bro can you help i got ps3 40gb console when i turn it on im getting a red light it only turn green for a couple second then i hear 3 r 4 beeps then the red light start blinking i put new paste on the top gpu and cpu and done the reflow i haven't remove the gpu are cpu do you think it's the nec tokin anyhelp many thanks 👊
Use syscon to check for error codes. There are several youtube videos on this and we will do one soon as well which will be better than the rest.
