You can tell this is 7 years ago......these prices have doubled. I'm halfway done with 1700.sq ft, me doing everything and I'm at $20k.
Anywhere on the coasts and this is triple
@@priceandpride I posted that two years ago, finally finished my basement just months ago. I ended up with $67,000 in it. I did 100% of the work minus the drywall.
1700 sq ft. Full kitchen/bar, full bath, bedroom, large weight room with rubber flooring and media room that has 3 tvs/fireplace.
Probably looking $150k+ if subcontracted out. It's truly a 2nd home down there.
Fantastic info! I've really been enjoying your videos (the one on getting around issues was just invaluable!) and love that you even broke down the approx cost for a DIY'r. I just bought a home with an unfinished and am really looking forward to applying the info I've learned from you and your videos. You are a youtube rockstar my friend.
You are a very honest person, not common these days!
Renovating the family house and this information you BLESSED me with. Thank you. 🔥
Your welcome thanks for watching!
Eddie
Sir, you are the man. Appreciate this so much you have no idea.
Wow you gave me exactly what I was looking for. This was very informative and helpful that you also threw in what the labor costs as well. Thank you for you knowledge and time for putting this together.
Your welcome Scott. Good luck with your basement finishing project. Thanks for visiting our basement channel.
Eddie
Started watching your videos and let me tell you, for someone (me) with very little experience with tools and handy work, my wife and I finished our basement. Not the greatest but it came out nice!!! Much props to you for guiding us through alot of it.
+charlie ramz Thanks for watching Charlie!
This is actually encouraging for us..because we have an above ground basement, with 2 exit doors.. windows.. heat. So that helps offset some cost
Thanks for taking the time to run those numbers. It was very helpful. Great series on you tube, I look forward to ordering the DVD series soon,
Your welcome Marc. Thanks for commenting on the vid. Good luck with the project my brother!
Eddie
Considering I'm in Lancaster & the space is the same size. I really appreciate this, been racking my brain trying to get the cost together so this was a big help!!
Hey Lancaster! Yeah...your costs are going to be virtually the same as ours Manny! Good luck with your project brother!
Eddie
My wife and I want to finish our basement soon here in MD and this video gives me hope that we won't have to break the bank with this project
Great video(s)! very informative and straightforward , thanks for taking the time to make them!
Great way to estimate the cost for labor and materials to plan accordingly. Thanks 🙏
Great overview. One thing to note....this summary is assuming that you do not need to spend anything to address water problems (perimeter drains). A French drain in a basement will run ~$40/ft, sometimes more.
Great video Eddie. My builder wanted at least $50/sq ft to finish my brand new basement and I figure $20K tops if I do it myself with 2 bedrooms, a big 3/4 bath with double sinks and five foot shower, home theater room. Kitchenette area, work out room, and a big pantry too. I am doing it for a third or less than his price. I plan on doing soundproofing with Rockwool or similar product and some led lighting along with overhead fixtures in bedrooms with fan bracing done for future options. This breakdown was a big help for me to help in my permit process. Enjoy all of your videos. Keep up the good work!
Wow, great video, thanks for the insight, really nice that you show the numbers and explained it all so well. Keep 'em coming. Thumbs up.
Thanks for stopping by our basement finishing channel. Appreciate the positive feedback.
Eddie
Thank you for being so honest and up front. I would hire you to do my job if I needed to do this project. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for doing this video. This gives me an idea of how much I need to save and budget.
very well explained...
Awesome Video, Thanks for the education!
Thanks for this video! We are researching basement remodeling and this makes me feel like its achievable. The only difference is we want to add a full bath .Thanks again!
Thanks for watching Whitney. Good luck with your basement project!
Eddie
I know that this video was posted 6 years ago but I’m getting quotes around 80k to finish my 1800 sq ft basement. Seriously thinking about doing a lot of it thanks to your videos.
Thank you, Eddy. Great video. You are a wealth of information!
Outstanding Job!
Great work putting this together. It's nice to see it all spelled out like this before starting the job.
You're welcome Kate! Glad you found this video useful before your start date! Thanks for watching.
Eddie
We just bought out new home a few months ago with plans to develop the basement pretty quickly. I was mulling between doing everything but drywall myself or paying someone and came across this video. Sub'd, awesome content here sir, thank you!
Not the prices this time me around. Material has gone up so much... I personally do heating and air installs and for material alone $1,500-2000 there’s more to it than 2 ducts to properly do your basment
@@ceron801 I ran 3 ducts in 1700 sq.ft in my basement, I have to shut 2 of them off. It literally takes nothing to heat and cool it.
Eddie. This is great! Thanks Man!
That’s what’s up honesty right here thank you sir
Good stuff, thanks
Just bought a brand new house just outside of Coatesville, and we're looking to finish the basement at some point. We probably don't need plumbing down there; not looking to put in a full far or powder room. Just a basic generic basement. Gives me a good idea of what to expect to pay...
Great Video !
This is a great video !
Thank You!!!
Honest man 👨.
Plain &simple good job prices right on the $$ money thanks
Thanks for watching Chris! Good luck with all your projects.
Eddie
Such wonderful video sir
Glad to see this breakdown but curious about permits. I know it differs by city/state but what should I expect to spend for a permit to finish a walk out basement?
Great Videos!!👌🏻
Many homes still use copper water pipes. $15 for a 10' 3/4 length. Fittings are $2.50 each
+David James Copper is still a viable option, but PEX water systems are easier to install and will outlast copper systems by decades:-) It's all personal choice though...Thanks for stopping by our channel David!
Eddie
Great information !
Thanks Carlo!
Eddie
Wish it was that way here... Chicago, for about 300 sq ft to finish close to 15000.
Other than electrical and stain/polish floor Im doing it all for close to 5k. Great video
5K is awesome James! Good luck with your project!~
Eddie
Eddie hi how much has it increased since 2014 ? And also do u work in NJ ? Love ur videos, so detailed I watch it and rewatch it, pls keep it coming.
Great vid, thanks for putting this together!
Jordan Geddes Thank You Jordan. Appreciate you stopping by the channel and commenting my brother!
Eddie
So the video was made a little while ago, has the price fluctuated much from the 1000 sq/ft basement materials you suggested? I'm also curious about things like... putting in a door to the exterior, cutting and adding windows, etc.. Is there a good resource I can go for those additional items or is the cost for those items too subjective? Thanks!
Jordan Geddes Exterior egress doors and windows run about $3,000.00 to $4,500.00 if the basement is not exposed at all in the rear of the house...this would be labor and materials to install completely. Do it yourself and you could easily save half of this amount as it is your labor cost.
Eddie.
Thank you
A newer version of this video definitely needed

@@BasementFinishingMan were building a home and the builder wants 100k to finish the basement 😂
About 2500 sq ft

Great video. This is just what I wanted. My basement doesn't even have floor joists and no one covers the cost for that, but this gave me a great idea of what I'm getting myself into!
I wish this guy was in Atlanta. Great video.. We’re looking to finish our basement
I wish we were in Hotlanta as well! Thanks for watching! ~Eddie
Eddie, what is the general room of thumb when calculating square footage of a basement room materials? For instance, building out a basement; yet, completing one room at a time. Starting off with a 12x17 room.
Cool video, thanks. Can you please record a new one with updated prices?
Very informative and honest video. Thank you for all the helpful info.
Thanks Rick! Yeah...folks need to know what this project really costs. What what some contractors are charging their clients to finish their basement is absolutely insane! DIY'ers can complete this project at a fraction of what a contractor charges. Thanks for commenting.
Eddie
When do you install the doors? What delivery is that part of?
Thank you!!
Would someone usually need a subfloor to install carpet on the basement concrete slab? I know with the products out there this would add an additional $1-2k. Anyways, with the knowledge you just spit I'd still have you and your team come complete my basement project. You guys do some great work!
Hi Eddie .great videos.is this calculation including ceiling or roof also??Thank you..
I really appreciate the info it is very useful but I do have a question do you add cost to your $25sq/ft to buy the material and deliver it?
Eddie, are those costs you are giving us based on "contractor rates" for the materials? I know GC's get a bit of a break on cost. Thanks for doing this breakdown. It's easy to forget all the little things that go in to a project like that. LOVE your channel!!
No these are every day homeowner prices straight from Home Depot. Thanks for watching brother!
Eddie
Sweet. You clearly know your stuff, and I'm interested in your video DVD series. I also really appreciate how you answer questions on your videos. Had a run-in with an "expert" in a different field the other day on here, who did informative videos for the DIY-er, and then got ticked off when people asked for help. Some people. Stay safe, and keep up the good work!
Thanks Sig...I always respond to any and all comments on all of my CZcams channels.

Basement Finishing Man how much do u think it will be with a contractor doing everything
I’m starting a finishing job soon to a 1600 square foot basement. Would this figure change drastically to that project?
Thanks a lot buddy!
+LOWEFERRARI Your welcome Bud!
this is a great video for people like me who is just starting to get bigger jobs...
how long should a project like this take? how many people hours for each break down?
thank you in advance
What if the basement needed to be fixed for leaks first? Also, what do you think it would cost to add in a small laundry room? This has been a great intro to what we can expect when we remodel our house. Thank you so much!
That's too broad of an issue (basement leaks) to address without a professionals evaluation & recommendations. A lot of variables that could require different resolutions.
Great video. 👍 this breakdown and explanation really helps me visualize what’s ahead. I’m closer to 1200 sq ft, and planning for a full bath, but the rough in plumbing and 95% of my HVAC ductwork is already in place. So I’m guessing my costs are going to fall in pretty close. Because of the insulation I’m planning to use I’m adding $1000 to the cost. I do have two questions, I’m in a zone 6 region, southern Minnesota. My basement is poured concrete, as far as I know, it is not sealed on the outside, cheap bastards! Would not have added that much to overall cost to have sealed the exterior side of the walls, and insulating the exterior side of the foundation walls would not have been that expensive during construction but that’s a different conversation. Was planning to use 2 inch ridge foam panels, sub grad rated closed cell, I believe rated at 25lb and are R10 and 1X3 furring lattice on exterior walls, horizontal and vertical to give me chases for electrical. The insulation will cost approximately $900 with adhesive and the furring about half of the cost of traditional 2X4 walls. The basement has never been wet with standing water, but humidity is high, about 60% at about 60°F. My issue is possibly of mold issues over time forming in or behind the exterior wall cavity because of capillary effect from ground moisture. And is R10 enough, or should I add one more inch and increase the R value to R15? Any thoughts are welcome, and thank you in advance.
Thanks for sharing! Do have each trade broken out for the labor cost? I'd like to see that if you you. 👍
A thousand thumbs up. I do not know if I would be too demanding to ask of giving the contractor cost. You said these are the prices of the materials. How much a contractor should ask for such job? and how it would be calculated? This is my first video of yours but definitely I look for all others. Thanks
Lol! I found almost your answer in the vedio, I guess you said you used to charge around 25 grand while the lower cost in PA is 82 grand, am I correct
Awesome video. I'm from Toronto Canada and it gets really cold in the winters. Might need a layer of Rigid foam before I frame with batts.
Also, what kind of underlayment do you use before putting in laminate over concrete floors? (I know you don't like subfloors and neither do I)
Thanks!
You are great. Thanks a lot.
+Alamgir Mohammed Thanks for stopping by the basement finishing channel.
Would u come out to NJ, Jersey Shore? We have a ranch style house. There used to be a finished basement here but the old lady had her grandsons fill it with dirt so she didn’t have to pay taxes. And I heard she had problems with leaks. Every time it rained. We bought the house from my hubby’s cousins, his aunt died, they sold the house.
Is this with a drop ceiling?
How would you a finish a basement with cinder block walls? Also what's your opinion on dricore drywall and subfloor?
Thank you
Very good job.very informative. A full bathroom 5x10 who much do you charge for a full rip out and install a full bath? Thank you.I'm from ny so I'm not competing with you. I have a number in my head, but I'm curious with your number low to high side.again great basic for a basement
Great video! You mentioned you use R13 pre-cut insulation - Is this with or without the paper backing? Do you use any sort of vapor barrier?
Thanks!
W/ paper Matthew, and No we do not use plastic vapor barriers they create more mold than they illuminate.
Eddie

Brubaker's Flatcakes I'm having a house built and they quoted me $25/sqft. For one room they wanted $7500 -_-
Wished you were here in MN! Who would you recommend to tear down walls in a basement? A contractor or go to Home Depot and have them come out?
Wow you’re awesome this is very helpful. Do you travel in other cities in PA? I need my basement done ASAP.
Great video and very informative! My I am sure that I would not be able to do this myself. By any chance would you travel to NY, Long Island area?
Hi I'm in long Island were you able to find a good contractor I am going to finish my basement
Important note: you also have to account for all the new tools you will need to buy to do this job. I wonder how much all that would cost? I’m sure it’s still much less then if you had a contractor do it.
Thank you I need to know what am working with are u in ny
Exelent I fo...thank you
Well done.
What about framing cost? Is it included in drywalling?
How much to complete a drop ceiling or a drywall ceiling?
2x4’s are currently $5.87 a piece at Home Depot (Wow! That’s the most expensive they’ve been in a while). I wonder how much this would raise the total price of a basement project?
what does a 2 x 4 plate look like?
Eddie’s pricing is spot in - (lumber might be a bit higher now with covid but everything else is still in line). Anybody on the fence about purchasing his training videos...do it! I bought them about 8-9 years ago and finished 2 of my basements with them. Now we’re moving again and guess what, I’m back for some more training and tips to build out my 3rd basement. Best money you’ll ever spend. Trust me!
Hey buddy...thanks for vote of confidence in my training! Nice Channel you got there Zim! ~Eddie
I have about 1000 sq ft in my basement but about 20% of it would be the utility room and a storage room so theare are unfinished so that leaves me with about 800 sq to finish an with a drop ceiling since I like easy access to the pipes and wires. I don't have any major hvac apart from moving the existing baseboard (don't need AC as the basement is always cool). How much do you think approximately?
Unfortunately, my county mandates that a licensed electrician and plumber do the electrical and plumbing work, respectively. How much should I expect to pay for their subcontracting work?
I think this video is very great at giving the up front information. I would ask what if I do not have all the necessary tools that go along with finishing a basement. How much is that going to start costing me to rent/buy these tools
Travis Swan Home Depot and other places will rent u tools, but it’s not cheap.
great video. thinking about converting my detach garage to a rental is 644 square feet garage wat would the cost be close to if I want a small kitchen n small bathroom
I would need a little more info and would need to see the garage to say for sure Jonathan! A lot of variables were talking about here!
Eddie

Does your company do foundation leveling and waterproofing?
Greetings from The Czech Republic. It is interesting how cheap you get all this in the US. In my case down here 10 grand would be just to get the floors done. I'm not sure what is the best practices for basement renovation, I guess you forgot to mention windows replacement to get some more light in.
I need you to do my basement man see how you can work this out in St. Louis
Very informative video, I have a question though, how much does it cost per square feet to finish a basement including materials and labor hiring a contractor?
$25.00 and up. Some companies charge over $45.00 per sq. ft. depending on the complexities of the project. $30 to 35$ sq. ft. is average.

you should do another vid with a couple bedrooms and egress windows
