- AMT 1934 Ford Pickup Build Update #1
I feel like I got a lot done this weekend. I spent a lot of time getting everything ready to paint. Then yesterday and this morning I got some good time in the spray booth. I painted everything that I could.
Now everything needs time to harden up. I drilled out the headlamps and headlamp bezels for LEDs. Still not sure how I’m going to hide the battery, but I’m getting it prepped.

Great color scheme. Never thought about those two colors on a model truck. Well done sir. Thanks for creating your fun video's.
Thank you very much.
Great addition to the diorama. Should look awesome. Thank you
Thank you very much.
Wow, you did get a lot done. The pulley is a good idea, kind of a block and tackle arrangement. It would make up for the lack of gearing at the hand crank.
Thank you. Yes, a block and tackle setup I think would be much more realistic.
Happy Birthday Mark.🎂
Thank you very much.
Looking pretty sweet, the elves are hard at work. Ho, ho, ho,
It's going to make a great vintage Texaco tow truck. Once the decals and everything is on it, its going to look completely different. Nice job
Thank you very much. I think it's going to look good. I am also going to try and make a few decals of my own for it.
I look forward to the sequel.
Thanks. I'm back to work now, so things will be slowing down.
Nice work, Mark! You’re the Boyer Coe in this field!
Straight up just laughed out loud.
I agree about stripping the chrome, usually way to much in some of those kits.
I'll keep some, but I don't like a ton of it.
Nice start on the truck. I think black would look Great under those green running boards. I'll be watching
Thank you. I think you are right, I have been leaning to the black, or maybe gunmetal.
Outstanding progress the colours are smart ,the lighting sounds cool ,great update ,all the best Martin
Thank you very much.
Nice start on the wrecker
Thank you very much.
Hey Grandpa Mark, a great start to the build, maybe for the truck bed could you use popsicle sticks or thin sheet balsa wood scoring the planks and then stained, just a thought keep up your magical work ❤....
Thank you. I am thinking if I can't get that wood grain to look right I'll switch over to balsa, but I really want to practice painting the wood first. It's on the bottom too.
Awesome start to another great build Mark.Wheels I would go red to make the green and white walls pot. Thanks for sharing. Donnie
Thank you very much. Usually I don't have a problem with colors, but this has me. LOL
Great build as always, black wheels and chrome caps. The body colors are spot on so I think stockish wheels would be too. Love the station build also l just built a display for my T-Bucket work shop style. Your tips and info is highly appreciated!!!
Thank you very much for the kind words. I think you are right. I'll most likely go with black.
The colors were startling. Glad to hear the cab and bed aren’t Orange. Lot of talk about the wheels, so here’s my take: I’d go with Red, rims and spokes, to match the Cab. The caps were chrome from the factory. Red rims and gunmetal gray spokes might work with chrome caps with red lettering. I think I heard you say the engine was going to be turquoise? The 34 engines, cars and trucks, were dark green from the factory. I’ve researched all the engine colors for all my stock engines. A little OCD. Of course it’s your truck so you can paint it any color you like. I also want to use the tow mechanism, but the handle bothers me. Without gears there’s no brake. With the out-of-the-box hoist, you couldn’t lift anything. Can you imagine trying to lift a car with that crank handle? I’m looking forward to seeing your solution. Did I mention OCD?
Thanks you. I am so happy to hear that the engine is dark green. I didn't like the turquoise that I made up, so I painted it Tamiya Green and it looks good.
Looking great mate👍
Thank you very much.
This is going to be awesome as you get further along with this project. I gotta admit I never would've thought that the red and green would look good together but I can see where you're going with this and it's going to look great with everything you've got planned. As for the rims I personally would do the gloss or semi-gloss black but that's just my opinion.
Thank you. Honestly I almost repainted this twice. It wasn't until I put the decals on that I started to really like the colors. Now I'm so glad I went with them. They are going to look so great with the gas station.
Looks great 👍 be watching (MODEL CAR)(MAN CAVE)
Thank you. It's going to be a fun build.
New Subscvriber. Really enjoy the content. I have been building Scale Models for close to 50 years now and still picking up some good tips. Thanks!
Outstanding, Thank you very much.
Looking good so far 😁😅
Thank you very much.
I see what you mean by the color "washing out" on the video. However, it looks great on your FB page. Great work as usual Mark!
Thank you very much.
I built that kit a few years ago, it was fun to detail as you pointed out. The cab is looking orange on my monitor but I'm guessing it's painted red. Should be cool with all the lights working.
Thank you. Yes, and the green is more green too. My Iphone has been messing with me lately. LOL
By the way, my female mechanic finally showed up. Apparently her bus broke down, (or USPS misplaced her for awhile). Glad she’s here. Her names Lola, says she’s the twin of the lady that works for you.
If she is anything like Lori you will have a good employee.
Looking sharp buddy!
Thank you very much. My camera didn't do those colors justice. LOL
Looking awesome!
Thank you very much.
Woo-hoo! Looks good.
Thank you.
I’m enjoying your videos!
Thank you,awesome job.
JC : )
I should say, “Other JC
: ) “
Thank you very much.
LOL.
Sorry to hear that the green didn't mix the way you were hoping for this truck. Looking forward to the final result on the truck.
Thank you. Yeah, that green looked BAD. LOL
Really cool👍
Thanks for the update.
Thank you.

I been meaning to ask you, do you have any shopcards you want to swap?
I do not have any just yet. I have a design, but life has been keeping me from getting them made up.
Looking really nice. How about a dull gun metal on the wheels, just to tone it down a bit
Thank you. I like the gun metal idea.
I thought black for the rims before you said it. Wheels take so many scuffs on a working truck like that, you want something easy to touch up, not that you have to match a color or keep a matching can of paint around for. Especially since y'all are going to use it for show purposes as well as work. 🙂
Truck is going to look great!
Thank you very much. I like your reasoning for going black. I think I'm sold.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Glad I could help! 🙂
Looking Good G Mark But The Red's Looking More Orange on My Phone. I'd Go Black on The Wheels. Can't Wait To See It Lit Up. Till Next Time GBA 🤗 Gary.
Thanks. The red is Tamiya's red. Not sure what is going on with my camera. I think I will go black or maybe gun metal for the rims. Thanks.
Yeah, I'm ready for Christmas also.....😉👍
LOL. Thanks.
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO 😩😩
Mark hopefully it’s just the lighting but that red looks really Orange!!!
Yeah, ever since I updated my phone my camera is acting weird. It is Tamiya's Red. But I think the camera doesn't like the black and green with the red. Even the green is washed out.
looks good. I need to learn the wood grain tech.
It's not hard, but the big thing is at the end coat it with a thin coat of Tamiya's Clear Orange. It makes it all work right.
Thank you@@grandpamarkshobbies
I saw one online that was red with black fenders but the wire wheels were painted a darker green shade. I thought it was a really good look. I know not quite the same as your color combo but just another idea. Maybe paint each rim differently and decide which one you like best. Strip the other 3. Lol. Great update. Everything is looking really nice despite what your camera was doing to the colors. On the video your truck looks like the Mazda 787b that won Le Mans. 🤣 i like your idea for the boom and adding pulleys. Look forward to seeing the build come along.
Thank you very much. I think I may make a few gears to go with the hand crank too.
@@grandpamarkshobbies either way it’ll be pretty cool!
Should put a push plank inplace of the front bumper,
You know, I had one made, but since the chrome bumper fit so well I decided to put it on. LOL Thanks for watching.
The truck is looking great. Wonderful start. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much.
Merry X-Mas!!! Gloss black for the wheels OR wood tone would look cool I think? It's coming out nice Mark. I would have tried to match the colors of the Texaco logo. The green looks good but the red should be a bit darker. But for a show truck, work truck I guess it's good. Personally I would have muted the colors anyway. Use chain man! It'll look cool. Find a way to replace the plastic ones on the tailgate with the same chain as the tow chain. Anyway you do it, it'll look great with your talents my man. Thanks so much for the update. Please don't get mad at me for the suggestions Mark.
It did go straight Christmas. LOL I think I'll be going black with the rims. I think that will look good with the whitewalls. I am with you about it being just a touch light, but I think my camera also washed it out a bit. I have to be honest with you, I painted the chain that was on the tailgate, and it looks fantastic. I like keeping stock as much as I can. If I can find chain small enough with links that look right I'll be going with chain. I never get mad at any suggestions. I love them. Honestly I do take notes.
Answer the question 1st... Paint all of the rim semi gloss black and steel/gunmetal caps with red letters on the cap OR paint the rims the green, spokes gloss/semi black and steel/gunmetal caps with red letters on the cap. (Giving you some wiggle room) That's me. 😁
As for the paint, I sure do hope it looks better on your side of the camera because my side was, not so good. Yes I seen the Note! Lol I would have put just 1 drops of black in the green to tone it down a smig. But I do like it mostly. Maybe the next video it will grow on me better. You have never let me down yet... Lol
LLAP 🖖
I like the gun metal idea. I think that's were I'm going to go. That green is the same green as the Texaco station. And the red is straight Tamiya Red, so I'm not sure what is up with my camera. This last update sure didn't agree with my camera. I am still trying to get it all straightened out.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Well I had to use my old brain and imagine the correct colors then I turned around and looked in my paint rack. I have that paint... Lol You must of had a square electron trying to get in a round hole in the camera... 🤣
LLAP 🖖
LOL. Right. I have no idea what the heck is going on with my Iphone. It has been off since the last update. I'm going to have to go on the interweb to figure this one out. Also my picture format is HUGE anymore. Not sure why.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Well that explains it! UPDATE foobar... 😥 I hate it when that happens. Google did that to me. they activated 5G on all there phones 2 years ago and killed my phone because we don't have 5G here. You have to drive 25 miles some where to get 5G. "Sorry there is nothing we can do." is what I got from them. 😠
The only other chose was Version. Monthly fee is double the price but it works. Version said what they did was turned off 4G in the software that bricked 1000's of phones in this area...
LLAP 🖖
Isn't that something. . . We pay a ton of money and they go and do that. It's crazy.
😎✌🏼✅
Thank you very much.
wheels? Red, with silver or chrome hub cap and wheel edge ring
I like that. Thanks.
I'd do the rims in red
Thanks. I think I am going to test paint a few different colors to see what I like best.
I just want to know where you found a little husky??😂
I got them from Amazon. It comes with 4, but only 2 are the right size. Then I painted them to look like Jake. www.amazon.com/dp/B08CHK6KH6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
The frame looks really good. I was going to ask you about stripping chrome. LA Assume, never heard of it. Does it strip old paint also? I didn’t see a link, where do you get it?
LA Awesome does strip paint well. I get it from the Dollar store. I think a half gallon is about 3 bucks. WEAR GLOVES!! It will dry out your hands quick fast and in a hurry.
Oh cool, cheap and works good is always good to hear. Thanks.@@grandpamarkshobbies
Like I said, make sure you wear gloves. It is strong.
Do you know where I can get a Chevy C-10 1975 long bed model? Thanks
I'm sorry, I do not.
I just recently finished AMT's 1972 Chevy truck with long bed, but the grill is different from the 1975. Got it off Amazon.
Thanks anyway
