- Carnival Sunshine is the oldest ship in the entire Carnival fleet. Is it too old and will you enjoy your time while on board? Keep in mind, that the ship received a total makeover in 2013, was renamed, and branded like a new ship. Although old, the Sunshine has practically all the features found on the newest Carnival Cruise Line ships. However, does it show its age?
I take you on a full tour of the ship from bow to stern and look at the staterooms, the atrium, the pool area, entertainment options, bars, food, the Serenity adults-only area, restaurants, the water park, and much more. I go deck by deck and all around the ship.

My wife and I just got back from our cruise last week. Don't pay attention to people saying it is an old worn out ship. It is not. Very clean, beautiful decor, great friendly staff, incredibly talented musicians providing entertainment. All the passengers were of like mind to relax and enjoy themselves. Everybody was in a good mood. If you don't have fun on this ship, somethings wrong with you.

Going July 2024. Excited. 2nd cruise for us .. 3 rd in December scheduled. This will be our smallest /oldest ship- but as a mentor told me once- make the most of wherever you are and whatever you do- And life will be great!! Welcome aboard the Sunshine--and Life.
I totally agree! The cruise and life is what you make of it. If you get lemons, make lemonade. No matter what happens we should always be looking forward, enjoying the ride, and making the most of the journey.

2024 is the last year it will leave from charleston SC ,2025 moves to Norfolk VA and going to drydock in February 2025 for repairs. Great ship for being the oldest in the fleet !

The carnival sunshine use to be the destiny, I was on the destiny , which was a beautiful ship , when it was worked on and made it the sunshine, I was very disappointed in what they did with it.
I wish I had a chance to see what it was like before. It certainly is not the best that carnival has to offer at this stage in its life.

We sailed on the Sunshine out of Florida a few years back and the issue we had with the ship was with the addition of the center section it becomes very hard to navigate.
Wow, I wouldn’t suspect you would say that. The center section is one of the things I like the most. However, I can see how it may make navigating the ship more challenging.

Just got off a Sunshine Cruise out of Charleston on 5/19/24. The crew was simply awesome one of the best we have had. We've been on 8 cruises 7 with Carnival. This was the worst ship we have sailed on. While the crew kept it clean; the ship was tired, worn and dingy. The deck chairs were very worn and dingy and made you not want to sit on them without a towel under you. The Serenity deck cushions were flat and very worn. Our cabin had shelves that were broken with pieces missing, the water pressure was also quite low. Again the room was very clean. Just worn. At the Havana Bar; several of the ships rear windows are broken and cracked. I think this ship either needs retired or a complete top to bottom overhaul. We love cruising and we like Carnival but this ship was simply not what we have come to expect.
Was on the very same cruise with a group of 20 people and none of this was experienced. In fact most of our group talked about how good the water pressure was. And we definitely did not get a worn and dingy feel. Sat on a lot of those deck chairs throughout the week, absolutely nothing wrong with any of them. You just seemed to have gotten some bad luck with some things it appears.
Well I'm glad that you had a good cruise. We still had a great time. We had a group of 8 and we all felt the same way. On one of the days at sea the required my sister in law a d her husband to clear out their room on a sea day so they could replace the carpet. I could see if it was a port day but their were told to stay out out of the cabin for 5-6 hours. Then the smell of the carpet was so strong she complained and the steward had to prop her balcony and cabin door open and put a fan in it. They gave them a bottle of Champaign for their trouble but they don't drink. We were midship on the 6th floor and most of our neighbors were also complaining about the smell and the low water pressure. I received a reply from Carnival and they said that the Sunshine is scheduled for a dry dock complete overhaul this winter. I love cruising. Even though this one was not up to the top level as we usually experience; I'd go again in a heartbeat. The atrium was very pretty. But the even the spa was worn, if you were in the Havanna Bar you'd clearly seen the cracked glass at the rear of the ship. I'd still go again. This crew was one of if not the best we've had.
The good thing is that the sunshine is set to be totally refitted in 2025 so pretty soon you’re gonna find a completely remodeled and revamped ship.
