    This kills all desire for all other poly synths for me. That keyboard can do so much more interesting AND musical shit than any top tier mod matrix or whatever is in other keyboards. The playing is so dynamic and human sounding while also being able to still be otherworldly. Well done Expressive E

      I followed my instincts and pre-ordered one in Oct 2019…I'll simply say I'm glad I did…Not least cause now I have it the multi-fingered control necessary to control (let alone musically 'PLAY') this instrument is clearly going to make me a MUCH better keyboard (and Piano) player.

Think it will imbue any digital patch with an analogueness just by virtue of the fact you'll get a natural pitch drift from the slight difference in position with which you strike the keys. Waaaaaay off topic, but didn't know where else to do this 'video request' ..... How about doing a video on the best keyboard for gigging/working live. In truth, I'd like to see a shootout between the Yamaha YC series and the Nord electro and /or Stage 3.
    The criteria for me is:
    - ease of switching between sounds/patches (both have minuscule displays)
    - how easy it is to control/tweak patches on the fly
    - ease of finding and changing to different patches
    - I don't think that the weight is actually an issue - there's always someone to give you a hand if needed.
    - How easy is it to set up patches by a particular song (I know the Nord can, but not sure about Yamaha YCs
    - playing samples for the weird sounds

I've seen on the soniclab guy's page discussion and overview videos that they mentioned the keyboard is a bit stiff. It makes sense if the AT is (as it appears to me anyway) tied drectly into key throw right from the get-go. I doubt the Osmose is as stiff to play as the Roli Seaboards (though those controllers alow for direct note to note sliding) but I was wondering..... as compared to a "normal" keyboard,...
    How stiff are the keys compared to a standard synth action keyboard?

      Look up EaganMatrix programming tutorials - that's the synth engine in the Osmose, so although the existing tutorials will be based around the Haken Continuum, the desktop/app editor for the Osmose will probably be very similar.

    • @LunicussOfficial
      @LunicussOfficial Před rokem

      It's absurdly hard relative to most other synths. Definitely a whole new beast. The EagenMatrix is probably the most complicated synth you'll ever try and use, but if you've got a brain for complexity and don't mind diving into some maths you'll be able to get your head around it.
      That being said, even if you get bored of the factory presets this is still going to be an amazing MPE controller.

  • @everybodyhasoul5438
    @everybodyhasoul5438 Před rokem +1

    It’s a great idea & execution. My only worry comes from my experience playing an EWI - the programming that goes into integrating the unique key bed design is super cool, but it also is very complex and means you really are only getting the full experience with sounds that come from the keyboard, meaning you’re either a really good synth programmer that is gonna invest a lot of time & energy in designing sounds via the onboard synth engines or you have a lot of faith/trust in the sound design choices made in the presets.
    Btw everyone, Arturia just released the MiniFreak as a soft synth.

    • @HowToShopGreen
      @HowToShopGreen Před rokem

      The EWI is a digital version of an acoustic wind instrument similar to what a standard synth is to a piano. Osmose goes even further by simulating the note bending and modulation directly with each individual finger movement.

    • @HowToShopGreen
      @HowToShopGreen Před rokem

      Also, it is not about creating new sounds with the Osmose which you can but most importantly play with more emotion.

    • @LunicussOfficial
      @LunicussOfficial Před rokem

      While the internal EaganMatrix sounds are extremely polished and sound incredible, you can also use the Osmose with any MPE compatible software/hardware. The only thing I think you might miss out on in MPE mode, and I could be wrong here, would be the pressure-weighted portamento.
      But polyphonic aftertouch, pressure and note bending should be available across all MPE devices.

    @MonBienCherAmi Před rokem +5

    As someone who's not producer or a professional musician (meaning I mostly play instruments for my own enjoyment) I think that boot up time test should be a standard in keyboard reviews.
    Because ain't nothing more frustrating than having a musical idea in your head, rushing to your keyboard to test it, and having to wait for the sound to come on. Or, even worse (and as it is often the case for me), turning off the keyboard because you feel like you're done, then having a spur of inspiration, and going back to your keyboard only to wait for it to turn back on (something that made me prize the auto turn off function on these instruments).
    I mean we kinda understand that something like a workstation, basically a mini computer system, would take some time to boot up, but the thing is it's also a problem that happens with the cheap digital pianos that only have like a couple sounds.
    It's something that frustrate me so bad that I sometime considered if I should buy an acoustic guitar and restart learning an instrument again for the sole purpose of always having an instrument around with which I can explore my ideas as quickly as they appear. Yeah, I'm aware that acoustic pianos exist, but I frankly don't have the means to buy (and care) for one that would suit my sonic requirements.
    Maybe once one of these manufacturers start to notice it's something people truly care about, and start to make efforts in that direction, others will follow suit and progress will be made across the board.

    I’m not sold on it for every situation. It’s cool sounding but it seems like an auxiliary board vs a main board. It seems very fun to demonstrate but when the novelty wears off, how often will you reach for it over other boards? How often does one make and listen to drone-type music or music where the pads in a way that isn’t subtle?

      This wasn’t just drone/ambient sounds though. A lot of acoustic-y plucky sounds too. The thing that really strikes me is that the sounds are natural and calibrated so well with the touch.

    This is really sold for a too little price! Is worth 3k or more compared to those boring synths people pay mostly for the name. And it’s useless to compare the price to the mass produced Japanese plastic crap either.
    I hope they’ll make it to profitable stage and are able to develop the great idea further and further. Good luck 🍀

    The sound engine is a bit of a let down for me personally and having to tweak everything on my computer is meh, using it as just a MPE controller doesn't justify the price with there being cheaper alternatives. So I not sure yet. I don't think many people will hang on to this one for long.

    at first I thought finally there's a Roli Seaboard that can be played like a normal keyboard, I'm glad of your enthusiasm for the expressiveness, but for me it sounds terrible and unusable for any genre I play, unless I want to emulate stringed instruments, which is not really the primary goal of a keyboard player

      Ordinary to bad esthetics choices also. At least could have had reverse keys. Doesn't look like an "instrument".

    Thank you! This is the 3rd video i have seen of this and im now confident that it sounds as cheesey as the mpc key 61. I just got the new minifreak plugin and im not impressed with that either. Trigon seems way more tasteful can’t wait to try one.

    I don't get it...all the excitement over this..presets on this are ho hum, and if you have polyphonic aftertouch you can pretty much get similar wiggles if that's what you fancy.
    I've heard much more gorgeous massive sounds coming from a Roland Fantom or my Yamaha Montage, or Korg Kronos.
    But hey, everyone is different and if folks are excited, that's cool, we're all here having fun and finding new gear to use as tools, and if this inspires someone to create, that's what's important.
    I just couldn't believe all the CZcams videos with folks drooling over this. I would guess the playability is different, and the sound comes in second. And yes, I am aware YT videos are compressed, but so are all the other videos we can compare it too.
