"YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD FOOL THE WORLD'S GREATEST DETECTIVE???"
-Detective Poirot
David Suchet is the best Poirot ever.
I agree. This guy Kenneth Branagh, moustache look a lot more weird here.
I agree. Not to mention his version is IMO the best adaptation. Dark and very on the nose.
I agree, the Suchet version was the first Murder on the Orient Express film that I watched, so I went into this film to see how it compares.
Conclusion: Suchet’s version was better.
Suchet is better in every way at being Poirot. As someone who read the books, Suchet felt like he stepped right off the pages. Branagh isn't bad but he misses the mark and doesn't have the little quirks that Poirot should have. He would never have been so physical as to chase someone. And breaking into the dead man's compartment with his cane when a conductor would have a key was silly! Still I may watch Death on the Nile just to see if he's learned anything.
The British series with David Suchet is still the best one for me
@@TheHunterOfYharnam search Agatha Christie's Poirot, it was a british series which ended in 2013. it was SPECTACULAR and much better than this movie. The tv series covers all the books written by Agatha Christie, and has episodes for Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, whose movie is coming out this year. If u liked the movie, DEFFO check out the tv series
Anyone else thinks that the series starring David Suchet is the best interpretation of Poirot?
If you're a fan of Poirot at all.... yes. The fact that Suchet is the only actor to ever play Poirot for all 70 mysteries Christie wrote for him, and yet Chris didn't even mention him among the best interpretations of the character... that saddened me.
Since CS is more of movie guy then a TV guy, i'm guessing he just haven't seen that version. A shame, it really captures Christies humane yet easy to follow mystery writing.
David Suchet's Hercule Poirot will forever be my favorite interpretation.
David Suchet is the definitive Poirot and played him on British TV for 25 years and covered every story he was written into.
Even though he never made a 'big screen' adaptation of Hecule Poirot, I can't believe you never mentioned David Suchet. He was brilliant and deserves notice.
As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t matter if the 2010 version was on the ‘big screen’ because that little detail doesn’t stop it from being the best.
You never saw the David Suchet version? He did basically all books and short stories........maybe not known in the US that much?
It's because the Suchet version was for TV. He didn't make movies, not with theatrical release anyway; he made a TV show. When only movies are considered, as often is, he slips through. A shame because Suchet is by far the best.
Mon Mothma the last few were really movie quality episodes, 90 minutes. But yeah was ITV, we don’t have that in Netherlands, I always ordered the DVDs 😂 started back then after getting books from my grandmother, fell in live immediately
@@aelorgames2627 Aah that's nostalgic, I used to be such a fan of the books and the Suchet series which was on TV here in Norway when I was a kid. And that's what makes me crazy is that it was movie *quality* , and movie length too towards the end, but because it was made for TV, the reviewers don't bother to consider it when new versions are released, and all other Poirots are mentioned but Suchet, when Suchet was MILES ahead of any them! Lol :)
David Suchet is and always will be the best Hercule Poirot
But of course! It kind of saddened me that Chris didn't mention Suchet.... but I guess he IS a movie fan and not necessarily a british drama fan.
David Suchet is the Poirot par excellence
It's amazing how Chris can mispronounce the names of both the actor and the character that he plays... haha
Spoilers:
There are amazing mustaches in this film.
Shame: I expected the spoiler to be that Chris grew up with The Murder On The Orient Express
"Puh-ro"? Why do I get the feeling that Poirot would sarcastically but charmingly correct you if he heard you pronounce his name that way lol
I bet half these comments will be people correcting his pronunciation of Bra-Na and Puar-o.
Maybe it's an ironic play on people incorrectly pronouncing Proirot's name.
No mention of David Suchet as Poirot Chris!!!
Yoshiepoo Chris didn't mention David Suchet In his review! I'm not talking about the comments section
Listen, I enjoy Albert Finney's interpretation of Poirot as much as the next guy, but without a doubt the best depiction of the character was by the great David Suchet. Just watch a single episode of the Poirot t.v. series or the 2010 movie adaptation of Orient Express and you'll know what I mean.
"Beautifully shot" is an understatement.. The last scenes where Poirot walks out of the train in one single take was immensely incredible! It had me salivating at the camera showing the intrinsic details of the train, the color tone and the final shot where all the people sit in the last car - Incredible film making!
For me, the definitive characterization of Hercule Poirot will always be David Suchet.
Hey Chris great review. If you want to see in my opinion the best version of Poirot is David Suchet. Check out the the series. It’s really amazing.
Eric Kelly yes and it was amazing. A lot of really great actors in that version as well, including Jessica chastain and Toby Jones.
+myglorioushog Jessica Chastain was in that one? now I gotta re watch that.
Eric Kelly I believe it came out in 2010. I heard an interview that she did on that version, and she said she’s was such a fan of David Suchet, and the series, she just was so honored to be a part of it. So cool. I’ve seen 3 versions of murder on the orient express, the first one with Albert Finney, and that was good, also saw the version with peter Hustonoff, which I wasn’t the biggest fan of. And the Suchet version just blew me away. I’m gonna see this version just cause I love this story, and Kenneth Branagh is a great actor, and director. But it’ll will hard to top the Suchet version in my opinion.
David Suchet will always be Poirot
David Suchet is iconic! Still, I hope this opens up the way for more old-school-style movies and who-dunnits!
Dont tell me you've never seen the amazing David Suchet Poirot? His version of Murder On The Orient Express is brilliant.
It is. His 25 year long career acting as Poirot is even more brilliant
Suchet IS Poirot. The only complaint I have with the TV version starring Suchet, was the way they changed the ending. Much to my chagrin, as his speech in the book was excellent.
I am propably the only person who loves the ending in the Suchet version. Overall, that movie is brilliant.
Brawn haw? :/
I came to the comments for this. It's just Brah-nah. Surely, Chris would know this after all these years!
David Suchet is the best Poirot. Not even a mention?
I give this review a D - interesting but didn't mention David Suchet's most glorious adaption.
I give your review of that review of this movie review an A: - will read again!
Pronunciation of Branagh over in the UK (where the actor is more or less from) is usually with the same "a" sound as in the word, "action" , both times - and no "h" sound before the second "a".
@@djoakeydoakey1076 I give your review of a replier’s review of a comments review of a videos review of a movie a C+. I would read again only if its there, wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.
Am I prejudiced or is this an American thing: to pronounce foreign names wrong? Anyway, I like Chrays Stoockmin.
laertesdd I bet he couldn't name 5 of Kenneth's movies...and I'm American. LoL!!
He pronounces even common names wrong. He's not the film buff/lover he thinks he is. He'd get laughed out of a Hollywood meeting. He called Jada Pinkett Smith YADDA PINKETT SMITH. It's in the Magic Mike XXL review.
Have you seen the David Suchet version of Poirot? He's the definitive portrayal in my opinion.
Agreed, I grew up watching David Suchet. Funny thing to notice though is how big David gets by the last episodes of Poirot:P
Adapting a book again is not a remake.
but how can you tell whether its adapted from the book or its a remake of the movie. They could've jumped further back to the origin and ignored the movie.. ergo, adaptation and not a remake.
David Suchet is the only Poirot.
Another Great review, Stuckmann 👍🏾
IT'S TIME TO GET STUCKMANIZED
It's time to sleep actually, but i don't mind getting stuckmanized before bed.
Chris check out the tv series with David suchet. To me that’s the best poirot version . Great murder mystery
The way Chris pronounces Branagh 🙈
Love that Fury Road t-shirt by the way
I have to add, it's great coming here and seeing so much love for David Suchet.
Please, please, please, see the one with David Suchet! It's truly amazing!
David Suchet IS Poirot
Sorry. David Suchet will forever be the best version of Poirot. Kenneth Branagh looks like he should be leading a Indian raid.
Connor Stephens people have their opinions so don’t go and say they are wrong and personally I prefer the new one
Brady Ford are you sure you haven’t seen the 70s one with Albert Finney?
Connor Stephens sorry no, Kenneth def is better, much more intense and charismatic, and im a die hard fan of the older series with Finney
The rolling shot at the end following Hercule from his cabin to the lounge was a warm thank you note to the train set.
“Braw Nah” Chris
Kenneth BRAUN-HAA? I always thought it was Kenneth BRAN-NAH... ? :)
Love the original film...actually looking forward to seeing this one!
We really enjoyed it! Agree with Chris' assessment about it being a nice throwback to the way movies used to be made.
I just watched "Clue" per your recommendation and I absolutely loved it! I can always count on your opinion, Chris! Thank you!
I just watched this, I fully agree with Chris, the way its directed is something we dont get alot these days. But watch David Suchet's portrayal, an absolute classic.
who the fuck is Kenneth Bron-ha?
acrophobe seriously??? He directed the first Thor movie, Cinderella live action movie, directed and starred in jack Ryan shadow recruit to name a few
Yes, I'm more than perfectly aware of who Kenneth Branagh is, you beyond-ignorant duncifer. I was mocking Stuckmann for his frustrating tendency to hilariously mis-pronounce the names of prominent filmmakers and actors.
i loved the tv series whith David Suchet
I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable being Stuckmannized. Is there any sort of warranty on the process?
I grew up with murder
I love you Chris but your pronunciation of poirot and Branagh made me cry.
Sir Kenneth Branagh (yes, he was knighted) is one of my all-time favourite actors. To be honest, though, I was a bit hesitant to see him portraying Poirot, so I'm glad to hear he nailed it. My other hesitation, which you confirmed, was the large cast. When a film runs less than two hours, you simply don't have time to flesh out and add depth to everyone. Still, I think we'll give it a go and just take it for what it is. Thanks for the review!
Great review as usual, but man is your tattoo coming along amazingly. You've confirmed my dream to get a video game tattoo.
Chris knows about movies yet pronounces the name of an exceptionally well known actor "Bran-ha". Shame.
Once again Chris mispronounces another name.
Because he doesn't know shit about the industry or even bothers to educate himself.
Please review The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Saw it and it’s pretty fucking jaw dropping.
Love your videos! They are really well balanced and you clearly have an expert knowledge of film making! Your inclusion of humour is perfect, and makes the reviews really engaging! On this one though, just one thing. In UK, it’s pronounced Brana, or in Scotland Branur
Uhh, I hate the comment section of Chris Stuckmann videos... No one even talks about the movie or gives their opinion on it anymore.
I never read the comments but here I did coz I wanted to see how many comments there were about Chris mispronouncing Kenneth Branagh's name. It's so annoying, especially because he does it several times. And almost every other review. It's rather unprofessional...
The best Poirot interpretation I've ever seen was David Suchet. You should check it out Chris
I've been watching you before you hit 500k subs. Great reviews every time! ;)
Nice review and best pronunciation of Branagh I've ever heard!
I noticed that you didn't mention David Suchet
You are saying Poirot wrong. Poirot will be very disappointed with you.
Nah, he'd probably be used to it by now. In the books a lot of people mispronounced his name.
JKnight1316 Pwa-row. and Brannagh is Bra-na, not the hilarious way Chris says it.
My whole life is a lie wow haha thanks for educating me. I grew up reading those books and I always thought it was pronounced how Chris says it.
I actually really enjoy watching multiple interpretations of the same story. I don't know if loving Shakespeare is a cause or effect of this. I Saw Murder on the Orient Express at the cinema with my dad, because our father-daughter-bonding pretty much circles around trains and movies - so what better combination! We both enjoyed watching the beautifully filmed train, and all these great actors.
Yo Chris love your work man keep it up and also your shirt is pretty dope, just wondering where did you get it from?
I doubt Branagh's Poirot can surpass that of David Suchet's, but I will see. I'm a huge fan of the novels and of the Poirot series with Suchet.
David Suchet is unparalleled as Poirot. Just one look at him and you know he is a stout Belgian character.
Woah, just got here. What am I doing? I should be asleep.
Why would you be sleeping at 4:48pm in the afternoon on a Wednesday? Weird.
Hey Chris I don't usually comment, but I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your work and always look forward to your reviews. Have a nice week!
i just realized that in all these reviews Chris is sitting down. my world has changed.
You ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plageius the wise? I thought not. It’s no story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plageius was a dark lord of the Sith. So powerful and so wise he could use the force to influence the midichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful. The only thing he was afraid of was losing his power which eventually of course he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It’s ironic: he could save others from death but not himself.
Happy to hear it has an old-fashioned feel to it, and that footage is gorgeous. Definitely going to catch this one.
I like the fact that you used your Fury Road T-shirt whilst talking about remakes.
This one was, maybe, not necessary but freaking amazing.
That fury road shirt tho god damn.
Thanks. I'll be seeing it on Friday.
I hope Josh Gad gets more serious roles, he killed it in this film.
My school did towards zero by Agatha Christie as our Fall Play this year so the whole cast is getting together Friday to see it and I'm super excited!
Brawn-Ha
.........uhhhhhhhh. close?
his name is pronounced BRAAANAA
I swear stuckmann is one of the few reviewers i trust, and to be honest i love the guy
damn, hadnt realized you cracked the 1M subscribers... apologies for the belated congratulations!
There's like, a cornucopia of good Agatha Christie books, hell, just Poirot stories alone are enough to make movies for decades, and they just keep remaking Orient Express, dahell man. Where's the Affair at Styles adaptation FOR THE BIG SCREEN we never got??!!
Well if this movie does well, they're going to make a bunch more. It seems like a pretty good strategy to me: make one of the most well-known ones, draw in an audience and then make others. I have the whole entire series so I'd LOVE to have companions to all of my books. I hope there are many many more.
And no one wants to adapt "Death Comes as The End", the earliest fictional history novel. It could be a mystery genre, a bit like an Ancient Egyptian version of Crimson Peak, except the mythical parts are vague
This bugs me quite a bit in various series, when there's a plethora of material, so many options of what you can go with, but they keep going to the same starting point. When you get something like Agatha Christie's books, you have even more leeway, because it's not like you have to go in a specific order. I do understand the idea of going with the well known thing first, but I hope they go with a well loved book that hasn't been adapted yet as the next movie, if there are more to come from this enterprise. It makes me think of how so many Batman movies have just a handful of bad guys when there's like 20 to pick from. That's one of the main situations that always annoys me, and I'm not a comics person. But... I guess maybe being creative is too risky? They figure it's a 200 million dollar gamble and they want to play it safe? It would just be so so refreshing if maybe someone took a somewhat smaller budget and really went for it. Then if it does well, they'd get a larger budget and could continue making movies with less done material. We can keep hoping, I suppose! Also, if you happen to live in the states, Happy Thanksgiving!
They really didn't follow the book though. Poirot running and being shot??
MINDHUNTER
Windy City Cinema I have to admit I wasn't even huge on it the first two eps. Didn't love the two lead actors initially but they grew on me. I enjoyed the last few eps but I get what your saying. Fizzled out a bit. I think everyone who's seen it can agree on one thing though. The actor portraying Ed Kemper was goddamn amazing
Well, since it was renewed before it even aired, we're going to get a lot more than one more episode.
That sleeve looks like it's healing up nicely man
I totally agree with you about the strong acting and I was pleasantly surprised with Josh Gad's performance throughout the entire film
BEST INTERPRETATION of this character...?!! Have you not READ any of her stories? Have you not seen David Suchet's portrayal..?!! You claim to be a fan, but you don't mention David Suchet and his absolutely perfect (and might I say accurate) portrayal of Poirot over the course of 24 YEARS and 70 EPSIODES...?! When I saw that ridiculous caricature of Poirot's mustache on Bran-haw's face I laughed so hard I knocked over my tisane (look it up), and couldn't stop noticing how obviously fake it was until I turned off this sadly-now-typically over-blown and self-aggrandizing production by the once-great Sir Richard so I wouldn't have his ham-fisted and uninformed interpretation of the hallowed Belgian sleuth permanently etched into my consciousness... It seems you know about as much about Christie's Poirot as you do about Doyle's eponymous detective Sherlock Holmes, based on your review of 'A Game of Shadows'. Check out Suchet's 2010 version of Murder on the Orient Express; it will clearly illustrate everything wrong with this movie... Hastings...my little grey cells hurt....
Please review all three cuts of Watchmen (theatrical cut, directors cut and ultimate cut) before Justice League.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this, as I love all things Agatha Christie. David Suchet is by far my favorite Poirot. I think there are several episodes on Hulu or Netflix. Poirot is such an amazing amalgamation of fastidiousness, snark, and almost flawless keen observation.
Loved your review Chris... is refreshing to hear someone being fair and objective to this movie... actually with all movies!! you don't get caught by marketing or what's trending or what's easy and light. Keep up the good job !!
Well, I guess I'll go see it for myself then. Murder on the Orient Express is one of my favorite murder mysteries of all time so if Josh Gad isn't obnoxious like I feared he would be, maybe I'll be able to enjoy this. Thanks for the review!!
I want to see this just for Branagh. I really believe he is one of the most underrated directors/actors out there.
There have been many entertaining Poirot murder mysteries made for TV in the UK called “Agatha Christie’s Poirot”. It started David Suchet in the titular role (and damn good he was too, very particular and deliberate just like he is in the books). It went from the late 80s to the 2010s so there are a lot of episodes but if you like this kind of thing then maybe check one out. There’s always a good scene with Poirot telling all the suspects how the crime was committed and whodunnit - which is very satisfying.
Great review Chris!
Are we sure Kenneth Branagh didn't just kill two squirrels and tear off their tails to make that stache? It's definitely not natural, but if it is, holy shit thats an epic stache.
Thanks.
Well, here's a fact that I wish I never knew: Dwayne Johnson's beard in Hercules wasn't his own, but was made of yak testicle hair
