  • ▶ WIG[WING-IN-GROUND] EFFECT
WIG effect or "Ground effect" is the phenomenon of increased lift and reduced aerodynamic drag of a wing flying close to a surface. [ IMO-Guidelines for WIG effect ]
Ground effect is an aerodynamic principle that aircraft experience when flying close to the earth’s surface-either over ground or water. The phenomenon takes hold when operating within a distance of one wingspan from the surface. The surface alters the flow field around the wing, resulting in reduced drag and an increase in lift. In simple terms, reduced drag leads to better fuel efficiency and increased lift lets the craft carry heavier payloads.
    ▶ WIG CRAFT
WIG craft is a multimodal craft which, in its main operational mode, flies by using ground effect above water or some other surface, without constant contact with the surface, and is supported in the air mainly by an aerodynamic lift generated on its wing or wings or its hull, or their parts, which are designed to utilize the ground effect actio [ IMO-Guidelines for WIG craft ]

    ● 1. The Flying Ship ARON M80 - World's First Commercial WIG CRAFT
ARON: The First Flying Ship manufacturer in Korea
Starting from basic design to structural analysis, wind tunnel testing, prototyping, and commercialization, ARON has built mass production line base on 3D design that is all developed in-house to ensure quality and reliability. The M-Series has been developed over the past 10 years that made ARON dissimilar material connection technology and vacuum infusion.

    ● 2. AIRFISH 8 by Wigetworks Pte Ltd.
Wigetworks Private Limited (Wigetworks) was incorporated in Singapore in April 2004. It was established with the main purposes to commercialize Wing-in-Ground (WIG) effect craft technology and to be the center of excellence of WIG technology.
The AirFish 8 (AF8) is an 8-10 seater WIG Craft with a 17m x 15m footprint. It is designed to be operated by 2 crew and carrying capacity for 6-8 passengers in standard civilian transport configuration. It is powered by a powerful yet compact V8 car engine that runs on 95 Octane automotive-grade unleaded gasolines. Airfish 8 is designed and built to adhere to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines.

High-speed passengers and cargo transportation in marine littoral areas, solving dedicated purposes of Emergency Control Ministry (EMERCOM). It is possessed as amphibian, which can boarding/landing from/to unimproved shore with the shore grade in 5 degrees. Water and second-class airfield is provided.

    ● 4. The Flying Ship Company
It has taken proven Soviet-era Ekranoplan technology that harnesses the aerodynamic principal of Ground Effect to create advanced, unmanned maritime shipping vehicles that fly just over the water. These patent-pending Flying Ships will disrupt the global logistics industry with the combination of hybrid-electric propulsion and 21st century aerodynamics. Integrating these concepts dramatically decreases vehicle cost, improves fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions.

    ● 5. EP-15 MULTI-PURPOSE MARINE WIG-CRAFT
    AQUAS (12pax + 2crew) - Mid-range marine ekranoplan for high-speed passenger and cargo transportation.
RDC Aqualines Ekranoplans are new-generation vehicles combining combining elements of aviation and marine technologies. In fact, they are high-speed vessels reaching the flight speed. The ekranoplan technology was developed in the USSR for military purposes. Nowadays RDC Aqualines implements the project for civil ekranoplan manufacturing, developes and produces commercial cargo-passenger ekranoplans.
RDC Aqualines is a privately owned company, which unites several design bureaus and aircraft manufacturing factory in the format of consortium.

a much smaller compact 2-seater variant of the WIGET Works Air Fish-8 with an internal weapons bay could serve well as a tactical multi role anti-submarine warfare aerial vehicle!!! the FSC Demo variant would do great as a fast transport for expeditionary (beach landings) missions!!! the FSC Demo should comfortably accommodate 30 - 36 marines in full tactical gear & essentials!!! or one Polaris RZR 2 4WD + 2.0 in. When I've seen wig fly happily over 2-3m swells, I'll be convinced. I love the idea, but i have reservations about high speed craft in waters with boats (you know, around coastal cities), and open ocean swell. If it can handle 2-3m swell, that opens up a lot of pacific island territory for operating.

@@JFrazer4303Not sure where you live. Most of my experience has been on the ocean. I have also come close to drowning twice in my life. I have also been close to the North Americ, Great Lakes, superior, and Michigan. These are extremely large bodies of freshwater, they can easily develop their own winter storm systems. The wing in ground effect vehicles, even the dry and decline of plan, cannot operate in rough seas, where they might inadvertently contact the water and very high speeds. If they do, Any swells over 5 to 10 feet will probably destroy their hull structure. On the other hand, conventional, cargo ships, routinely make journeys in the same weather. Also, commercial aircraft generally fly above 10,000 feet, again for above the weather systems. Storm surge is what the company is a hurricane, that creates rough water that most commercial ships avoid. Tsunami‘s are caused by seismic movements like underwater earthquakes. You won’t notice this in the ceans, but you will notice close to shore, where the ocean depth decreases in proximity to shorelines. It takes advantage of terrine, such as what you find in the Russian Far East, which is called taiga., extremely flat, With very little vegetation, other than moss and lichens. I saw both the Aron and the Widget, in Malaysia, they looked cool but both never really 'took off'. Its a great concept on flat calm seas but downright scary when you factor in waves and wind, these things go to bits if they hit the water at cruising speed. Also, it would seem that you need twice the HP to get off the water compared to runway based aircraft which kinda negated WIG effect efficiency. Lovely concept that will never gain commercial traction, although a few may find use as mega yacht tenders.

Not true. We see them flying well above wave height. Any weather that stops them also stops other traffic.
They're designed to land at aircraft speeds, so hitting the water is normal for them.

Name any aircraft that operates in 40 knot + winds.
Name a watercraft of less that 10s of thousands of tons, that operates normally in such winds and 5+ meter waves.
Sea State 5 or 6+ (Beaufort 8 or 9) stops everything, and GEVs and seaplanes are demonstrated in anything less.
GEVs are not as a class particularly vulnerable to weather.
CZcams and social media "experts" are so certain, they "just know" that seaplanes and GEVs need perfectly still conditions.
