This seems like a huge logistical nightmare for Apple that could have been avoided by the iPhone scanning app just detecting if glasses are worn and requesting they be taken off!
I just got out of a VR training session in Engage VR. I specifically asked tech support when the Engage VR app for the Vision Pro would be released. He said very soon, potentially in the next couple of weeks - as soon as the App Store approves it. Would be a great place for AVP owners to meet in VR, and for someone like you to present content.
I was in a demo in which Engage VR avatars appeared in my living room in mixed reality (on the Meta Quest 3). He indicated that feature should be available on the Vision Pro. My avatar could appear in someone else's home as well. @@DrWiggo
The Apple Store's 'Quick Guide to Shopping for Apple Vision Pro' literally demonstrates Light Seal Scan measurement being done by a person with large, thick glasses. I believe the worry is unwarranted, and the likely reason for everyone's variable re-readings is that the true differences in Light Seal size and shape is minimal and the Light Seal Cushions will close that gap. Exciting times! Let's all enjoy the new era of tech! :)
The thing is, with the face scan giving different results, I worry that I might not end up getting a good fitting one anyways. Why not make the straps more adjustable? It doesn't have to be one-size-fits-all. However, allowing for the sizes to be approximate would make more sense and be less of a headache for the consumers.
I think the reason they are releasing the “PRO” version is a bit like how Tesla released the Model S first which was to have the flagship out there to bring in a lot of money and release the cheaper, non Pro, version a couple years later.
I think the Vision Pro was planned to release on the 40th anniversary of the Mac. Apple announced an extra week for bug fixing not long ago, and I think that was probably the difference in release. I appreciate the bug fix week. That was cool to see. Especially if it was at the cost of an anniversary release.
You had me worried. I did the scan with my glasses on, and got a Medium which I thought would be too small (and still might be), but I just did a couple of scans with my glasses off and got the exact same measurements. They would have told us to take off our glasses if it was required, but I understand it can make a difference anyway. I think the measuring process is just off in general.
You can return the one that you don’t want to keep and return it within 14 days. I also ordered the Zeiss readers, but I’d done some research before ordering. I bet the expanded availability on Sunday night was because they ordered more Vision Pros post pre-order launch. New Sub, looking forward to your review and other Vision Pro videos
Not many can claim they bought a Mac during the initial year. Apparently Stephen Fry bought the first Mac (or it might have been a Lisa, or both) in the UK, so you're in good company.
@@DrWiggo interesting, Wikipedia says Douglas Adams bought the first Mac in the UK, and Stephen Fry was second. Could have sworn i saw an interview with Stephen Fry where he discussed about buying the first Mac. But who am I to question Wikipedia! Wonder if there's an easter egg in an old issue of MacUser with the real answer to the universe…
If you are going to return one to Apple, be sure to return all the parts that comes with it. Apple probably won’t let you return if you mix match the parts from 2 different package.
Hey that’s funny I live in Tennessee near Nashville and I thought I must be like only one of a few buying one because the dates for in store pickup were feb 3rd so looks like you had the same experience
I never do Apple pick up orders. But I figured I don’t want to deal with going back to Apple Store trying to get the correct size. I figured this way I can try all the sizes and make sure I have the best fit. From someone who uses vr everyday. I want the best fit cuz it because matters for long sessions.
I had similar situation, but a different success. Actually I ordered one without the readers at 8 AM 1/19. Then about 30 minutes later, I went in and did an order for the readers, and a spare light seal (Just in case). The spare light seal ordering process allowed me to rescan my head with the readers included in the information. I ended up with a slightly different sized light seal with the readers and a rescan. The ordering system did allow for this, if you did a separate order as an accessory. So I am picking up my unit at the store (Feb 2 Estero Florida store) with NO readers and the light seal appropriate for no readers. A second light seal and readers are being shipped (Feb 2 as well) to my home. I am keeping the light seal that is slightly smaller depth for folks who use it without glasses, as I am sure many folks will want to test drive it and many will not use readers.@@DrWiggo
@@DrWiggo And those huge profits are because Mac customers are grossly overcharged, and they seem happy about that? haha Windows guys are much more savvy. I wouldn't pay 600 dollars for 32 gigs of ram!

That’s why they strongly encourage you pick it up in store and get it fitted.
