The concept of shaking hands - it is believed that this became a practice among desert dwellers who wanted to show that they don't have a dagger in their hands and show of hand and shaking hands indicated trust. Similarly eating from the same plate as a group (in practice in middle eastern area today) also became a practice to show that there is no poison and sharing food from the same plate indicated such trust. These have brought to India from either Western countries or those from the middle east. It has not been part of Indian culture anytime in the past.
