  • Our semi-automated visual inspection system allows for the inspection of vials, as demonstrated in this video. At Berkshire Sterile Manufacturing (BSM), every drug product lot undergoes a thorough visual inspection, with 100% of the vials being inspected. Additionally, a smaller Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) inspection is performed to verify reject rates.
Here's how the semi-automated process works: vials are placed on a turntable and moved over a black background and white background while being swirled. The inspector has the ability to pause the process using a foot pedal.
When the inspector identifies rejects, they can simply point at them. The system automatically tags and ejects the rejected vials from the outflow, effectively separating them from the rest. This ensures that the rejected containers are quarantined appropriately.
With this efficient process, an inspector is capable of inspecting up to 1,000 units per hour.
