RULES:
At the beginning of the game, each player is given 1 extra knight at the side of the board. One time during the game, instead of moving, you may drop your extra knight onto any empty space on the board. You are allowed to drop your knight to give check or checkmate or to block a check. On future turns, you are allowed to move that knight as you normally would. The first player to checkmate their opponent, wins. - Jak na to + styl
I know another person has said this but I like how there's an checkmate example exclusive to that variation of chess every time
Strictly speaking, it's not unique to the variant, but rather it's always a checkmate that uses the mechanics of the variant compared to regular chess.
Which usually makes it exclusive to the variant.
no it uses one or multiple rules of the variant
the purpose is not to highlight a unique unconventional checkmate but instead to explain the rules with a practical example
and it does the job perfectly
hello there
I think i'm dumb but... can someone explain how the example at the end of this video is a checkmate? the king can just move to the left and get out of check
can't wait for pocket pawn, pocket bishop, pocket rook, pocket queen, pocket king variation
Nah, it's knights because of how position-specific knights are.
@@deadersurvival4716 maybe it's a reference to pocket knife
@@hugo57k91 It's definitely not. Just saying. Pocket knives, as we know them, are fairly new.
@@deadersurvival4716 how new are you talking? Last century? Last couple decades? Chess is old af but these variants aren't that old
@@hugo57k91 After a quick bit of research, you're right. The pocket knife does predate the variant, but even so, I doubt many chess players in the late 1800-early 1900's were carrying around or using pocket knives, considering the standards of the times.
You may have had a animal hunter carrying a pocket knife, but they would have been a casual player at best, or completely mocked chess players for the same reason that boomers claim that video game players are lazy today.
If you’re a shogi player like me, you’ll see that this rule set could confuse tons of chess players because there are more options now. I think this is cool
Yeah there is, however shogi is balanced around the drop system so drops are not as powerful while still being a fundamentally important mechanic. I mean the easiest opening to learn, double wing attack is about exchanging a pawn to reset in a neutral position except you have a pawn in your hand.
@@splnter648 how does shogi balance the drop mechanic?
@@mihailmilev9909 with weaker pieces and altered promotion conditions. Like a promoted rook isn’t a queen, it’s a rook that can go diagonally only for one square. Another example is the knight which only ends up keeping his 2 forward facing Ls. Over all you should try shogi sometime, if you haven’t already that is, it’s pretty fun
very simple and yet very interesting, like o'll chess mods, nice
maybe not all chess variants. *Chess with time travel flashbacks*
lol, nice
@@Samuelinox-th3ww have u played it?
o'll? is that Nordic?
@@brohanime all
Dropping a knight is a simple rule of this variant.
He was so sleepy 😴😃 so he made this vid
lol
@@civ7293 wym?
I think you should make a Chess Variation compilation where you put 10 Minutes worth of short Chess variant into one video, I think people who are specifically looking for Chess Variations will like the video better instead of going through the dozen of them in your channel.
Meh, I feel like if someone is looking for any chess variant, there are other places to go. This is a channel where you go to learn the rules, if you're just looking to find out what variants there are, there are a lot of better ways, that don't involve CZcams.
Thanks for this great video!
I would like to buy the triple s games chess pieces but I would like a normal 8x8 board that they fit with. What should I do?
Being able to drop a knight gives you a very powerful threat of a fork from literally out of nowhere.
4am upload let’s gooo
nice
So is there also a variant named Pocket Bishop, Pocket Rook, Pocket Queen?
Pocket King
pocket king variant
"You can choose to drop the an extra king on any empty space on the board. The King piece shares all properties with the regular king and will end your game if that king is caught in check. The only exception is if you place the King near a position where your original king would be checked or killed, in that case, your King Piece can be placed and continue the game as normal.
@@silverdededestruction2197 nah, you have the abily to capture kings and when you get both kings you win.
Pocket pawn
@@silverdededestruction2197 Your second king could be a decoy
*puts knight in pocket*
Could you do murder mystery on the night train?
I have improved version Pocket Pieces. Rules the same as in Pocket Knight except you have full army of pieces except king and pawns.
It's my birthday!
Crazyhouse but only 1 knight
How about other pieces, like Rook and Bishop or something?
Call Captain Obvious. He would tell you that you can do this with any pieces.
the rook still moves in a straight line
and the bishop still moves diagonally
en passant is still allowed
A bit like shogi

on my side I see, 25 of them: Wait, that's illegal!
we got pocket knife, pocket sage and now pocket knight?
Everytime you say first one to check your opponent I'm always looking if it was checkmate
AND I ALMOST THOUGHT I GOT YOU if it wasn't for whites queen
I'm surprised you can drop it for a checkmate
Trinston was here... .
Misread this as “rocket knight chess” at first

Why would you ever want to do this? Is regular chess boring to people that want to play this variant?
It's less "is it the normal boring" and more "let's mix it up".
