      Tried this Viennetta version, and can honestly say it was a let-down. No where near as good as Breyer's version. The Good Humor version is a "frozen dairy dessert", where the Breyer's was a premium ice cream dessert. Good Humor uses "chocolate flavored" layers, where Bryer's had crisp chocolate layers. Yeah, another case of not being able to relive the past because it only disappoints.😏

    I grew up very, very poor and only had Viennetta twice in my childhood, but I loved it so much and it was so special I remember it very vividly, and remember how delicious it was. I still love the old commercials!

    I was a legit Viennetta connoisseur! What made it great was the breyers vanilla with the actual visible vanilla seeds. By far the superior vanilla. The good humor one just doesn’t hit the same

      Agree it's not as good as the original, quality is lower in the ice cream in particular. Still I'm glad it's back. It's nice to have it for the nostalgia.

    I VIVIDLY remember when I was a kid and turkey lunchables had a weird mini carton of Dijon mustard that you had to fold in half, and an Andes mint as the “candy” 😍

      Yes, that was the “deluxe” version, if I remember right. Also: I wish that container of mustard (or other condiments) took off here in the US. They use those in other countries, like Japan.

    They sell Viennetta at my local Family Dollar in Southern New Jersey for $6. I grew up thinking it was the pinnacle of wealth and super fancy 😂. I buy it every now and again lol

      What size is a pack of Viennetta where you from? A pack of Viennetta here costs around 2€ (which is now almost the same as in $) but its only 650 ml which is around 22 Oz i think (im crap with imperial measurements).

      @@Luciele last time I saw it in my super market and looked at the price it was only 1,60 Euro, but that was last year... it probably gone up now, thanks P... - I really have to agree with Emmy here, it really taste a bit simple now, compared to other ice cream you can buy. I do remember, how much I did like it. That was before we had the gelato ice cream places with fresh ice.

      It's the "Ferrero Rocher" effect. We're told it's super fancy and we grow up believing it. But hey it felt like a huge deal as kids and our parents could treat us and make us feel nice without breaking the bank. It also helped that you had to serve it in a plate and eat it with a spoon, so it made it even more fancy than just a popsicle or a cone.

    I agree about the packaging. I didnt grow up with a lot of money, and so whenever my parents bought a Vienetta it felt like such a super special treat. Like I was having something fancy that rich people and movie stars would be eating. xD

    I'm from Ireland and it has been continually available in Ireland and the UK (among other countries). Always like a Vienetta. It's simple but delicious.

    As a child of the 90's, the wonder ball was my absolute favorite candy! I have such good memories surrounding it. And I used to have this Lolli pop that looked like a painters brush and you dipped it onto a 'paint pot' that was filled with purple candy, really good

    When I had kid cuisine, the “brownie” was never fully cooked, it was kind of like a hot pudding sort of situation. Having people mention the brownie, I was so confused because I didn’t think of it as a brownie but it was soooo good ☺️

    I NEVER ONCE had Viennetta as a kid, despite wanting to try it SO badly. I knew it'd come back recently, but wasn't ever able to find it. Thank you for posting this - I live in RI as well and just checked my local Stop & Shop and supposedly they have it. I'll be popping in there first thing tomorrow morning to check!!!

    Vienetta used to be served at kids birthday parties here in Ireland, and is still sold in shops! The packaging of the one you have is almost identical to what we have here, although Good Humor is branded as HB in Ireland. So good to see you tasting my favourite childhood treat! Although, I was a sucker for the mint version!

    Holy nostalgia, Batman! Especially the gum section. I, too, always longed to chomp into a bubble tape...but have never done it! When you described dried up gum, I IMMEDIATELY tasted Fruit Stripe gum, which was notoriously hard and crumbly, but I preferred it because it had a better flavor than bubble gum. Also viennetta, the epitome of fancy in the 90s. Goodness, that was fun :D

      Fruit Stripe was always horrible! 😅 My favorite was always Chewels, which was a gum that was really soft, in a square pillow shape, and had gel inside it so that when you bit into it, it would kind of ooze. Off-putting when I think about it now, but it was always my favorite.

    I remember vienetta!! The quality is different because Breyer's ice cream is actually a great quality and their vanilla flavor is stronger.

      I have been disappointed by Breyer's, which is easily confused with Dreyer's. In my own opinion, between the 2, Dreyer's has superior quality and flavor to Breyer's.

      There should be a law against that. Breyer's and Dreyer's is confusing enough already. That's like saying that as soon as you cross the state line celery is called plywood; they both taste the same so they should only have one name.

    Vienetta (sold under the Walls brand, which has the same heart logo as that "Good Humor" brand there) never went away over here in the UK, it just shrank, a lot, like a ridicluously huge amount smaller now than back in the 90s, and we still have the mint one, which I think is the more popular one, but these days it's not really as popular as it used to be, as nice as it is, though I haven't had one for a number of years now, and by one, yes, I mean I had it to myself, they're so small it's pretty much a one serving thing now... :P

      To be fair, they're only £1 (or at least they were until 'stuff' happened, I haven't looked recently). They were 72p in 1985, so the price was basically static for 37 years - it's probably reasonable if they're a bit smaller now. Just buy 2!

      Same in Australia, it’s pretty much been around the whole time (though the other flavours are long gone). Shrunk, been discontinued at least once for a short period, plus pretty expensive (but I kinda remember it always being kind of expensive). Currently $8.00, but I think it’s been much higher at times in the past 15 years.
      Made by Streets (same as Walls/Good Humor). We don’t buy from them anymore, because of union busting and offshoring much of their local production.

    As an adult I admit to buying Capri Sun once in a blue moon. Really was the only "kids drink" I ever liked growing up. I recall my family trying the Vienetta once or twice. But we ended up preferring the Pepperidge Farm freezer cakes ( those are still amazing imo).

    My aunt brought over a Viennetta once, I loved it so much that I still check the ice cream isle at least a few times a year. Sad that they’re not using quality ingredients but I’m still going to try one. The packaging was definitely much nicer back then.

      i don't remember having the urge to take a bite out of it, mostly just because when I chewed gum I would chew like 3 or 4 sticks at a time so for those rolls when I had them I just made REALLY long sticks of gum

    They were selling them at Grocery Outlet couple of weeks ago. I bought one to share with my kids and grands. These were my best friend (of over 50 years) and I's favorite fancy desert when we were in our early-mid 20's. We grew up in rural Iowa/Illinois and fancy food was something we loved.

      Yes these cost around one euro here in Finland making it the cheapest "cake" you can get, and I think its the only ice cream cake that we have available.

    I had Vienneta as a kid, teenager, adult. It never discontinued in France. It's simple and easy to share. The caramel one is the best with a great cookie at the bottom.

    Vienetta was never discontinued here in Sweden. We have at least 2-3 different flavors , and over here they are made by GB Glace. There has also been other ice-cream brands making a similar thing.

    I’ve been trying to remember the name of Viennetta for yeeeeeears. I remember eating this a lot as a kid but I forgot the name and then started mixing it up with the also defunct Blue Bunny ice cream roll (also a fave). You just unlocked a memory!!

    The Kid Cuisine must've changed their formulas, because back when I had them, the brownies always turned hard as a rock like 30 seconds after you took it out of the oven and got one tiny little perfectly cooked part you could actually eat while the rest just sort of stuck to the tray thingie.

    When I was a kid in 2000s, Vienettas were made by Good Humor (or Wall's here in Indonesia) and it was always the epitome of dessert for me as a kid, they also discontinued it and it came back 2 years ago and I was SO EXCITED

    I remember that when I was a kid the Lunchables that we got came with two different kinds of crackers, meats, and cheeses, and they also came with a little squeezy blister pack of Grey Poupon mustard. I fell in love with the combo of the meats and crackers with Grey Poupon.

    For some reason I remember something like this being part of the Swanson's delivery truck. The big difference being that it came in a shiny aluminum tin with a white top. I remember being so excited when my mom said we could order it once as a kid.

    The baseball card gum just unlocked a childhood memory and I can almost taste that stale gritty bubblegum flavor. 🤣
    My grandmother served Vienetta once when I was a kid during a holiday party and it felt very fancy and formal and grown-up. It tasted amazing.

    My goodness, Viennetta! I'm a coffee flavor lover and we had a espresso flavored Viennetta here. I've loved it as a youngster until far into my teenage years until it disappeared. Now I settle for tiramisu but I still remember that deep, dark coffee flavor of that Viennetta. 😋

    I've been trying to hunt down Viennetta since its re-release. I recall the commercials for back in the day and was always sort of fascinated by it, but my extremely frugal mom would never buy it for us. She always used the excuse that my older sister had bought one and was disappointed because it was too small for the price they were charging. I did get a ton of Lunchables and Capri Suns, though. The turkey and swiss was my favorite Lunchable. I remember always having them at swim meets and Tae Kwon Do.

    I still get bubble tape whenever I remember how great it is and it's available. We were too poor to ever get vienneta. 89 baby here so I remember all of these and being excited to get them.
    I loved lunchables. Had them every week. Pizza, hot dogs, nachos, ham and cheese.

    Oh wow! Viennetta is a Christmas tradition in my family.
    It's still available in Australia but has succumb to shrinkflation, so the cake is tiny now.
    After Christmas dinner we bust out the Viennetta for dessert.
    It always felt so fancy as a kid, especially when my Mum would give us tiny dainty spoons to eat it with.

    I FORGOT ABOUT VIENNETTA. We saw the commercials for it when I was little and finally my mom decided to bring some home and we tried it. We all agreed it was good, but not as good as the commercial made it out to be. lol What you're describing makes it sound like they changed the ice cream, though, because when we had it back then the ice cream was pretty creamy, not like ice cream sandwich ice cream. And you're right about the box being different. The box was dark green, definitely not bright blue. Thank you for restoring this buried childhood memory!!!

    It was my dad’s favorite. My mom would occasionally find it at Albertsons. Glad it made a come back. Still haven’t seen it in the store yet. This is so nostalgic.

    I remember vienetta. I had it as a child and an adult. It is still good. The bubble tape was my favorite. The frozen foods also were good to.     I never got to have ANY of these things but lunchables, because my parents were holdover hippies, but my 90s kid childhood was spent COVETING them. Lunchables I got sometimes for field trips. But thank you so much for assuaging my own need to just bite the heck into the side of a roll of Bubble Tape. Does anyone else remember the 'It's six feet of bubble gum! For YOU! Not THEM.' jingle?

    They relaunched Vienetta in Mexico too under the Holanda brand (same brand that makes the Magnum ice cream bars). It's actually very rare to find Vanilla Vienetta (if they even make it), you'll only find chocolate and cappuccino flavors.

    Recently found a westcoast copy
    Of this “Viennetta” at my favorite grocer. Had no idea what it was. Showed my fiancé and she immediately had a flashback to her childhood. She demanded I buy as many as I could. Her first bite, brought her to tears, as she was now back to being a child again. Big, sobbing, Ghibli tears.

    I too enjoyed the Viennetta. It appears that Good Humor and Breyers are now the same company. They discontinued Choco Taco for a while when they unified as one business. Looks like some marketing guru is trying to build sales! I always enjoy watching you, from recipes to retro appliances and everything in between. Glad to hear your sense of taste and smell are returning.

    I only had Vienetta at my Grandma’s. She was fancy and always had unique foods for us to try. I loved that about her ❤. For years I couldn’t remember the name of it and kept Googling “ice cream lasagna” with no luck, then they brought it back! Now I just have to find it.

    I love all your videos, but I don't think Ive ever laughed at one of your videos so much. I'm too old to have had these in the 80s, but I do remember the Viennetta commercials and thinking that lunchables were appalling even back then.
    Watching your excitement and delight at these was so heartwarming. You look so genuinely excited about these - your delight is infectious.

    I was an adult and lived in Texas when I saw my first Vienetta commercial. It made the product seem so elegant. I purchased it one time and remember being disappointed. I thought a scoop of really good ice cream with cake would have been better. I don’t remember finishing the product.

    Viennetta is still a popular dessert in UK and Ireland, it was never discontinued here, its always been available, in several different flavours including original, mint, double chocolate. I remember it fondly from childhood but also get it sometimes as an adult.

    I remember seeing the Viennetta commercials when I was watching The Price Is Right in the 80s, and thinking, because of the commercial, that it was the epitome of fancy grown up desserts. Sadly, I never tried it because my mom didn’t like it, and once I was able to buy my own stuff I just didn’t think of it. I’ll have to try this new iteration 😊

    You can still get it here in the UK and I get it sometimes. My parents were teenagers in the 80s and had it then. My granny served it for pudding to my family when we visited during the 2000s and 2010s. Good memories.

    I used the Capri Sun as ice packs for the lunches. They would still be slushy at lunch time. They also make good ice packs for the bumps and bruises that energetic kids get.

    I'm originally from Portugal and we've always had Viennetta. I'm not sure it's ever been stopped over there. They've added different flavours my favourite being caramel biscuit it's so good.
