The '7' on RWR refers to a HQ-7, Chinese mid range SAM. It caught me out the first time as it can be a vicious little buggar.

Fun fact: That second airstrip where Drew landed and ended the video, I actually live like 4-5 kms south of that airstrip it's called the Khmemiem Airbase and it's taken by Russians. It used to be an international airport but not since the Russians took over it.

@@God-sz4pf it's an anti air defense platform from the Soviet era still used by the Syrian Arab army Air defense along with other platforms but this one is what they mainly use against long range missiles and aircraft

An SA-7 is a legacy MANPAD system with short range and an uncooled IR guidance system that sucks at flare rejection. It’s tail-aspect only, so it has almost no probability of intercept head-on with an type of fast-mover and has a very small window of probability to hit from behind because of its short range and ability to only track a plane by its exhaust.

He as an absolutely pro military simulation gamer knows the mechanics. If the maverics can't zoom then the others belive. He also forgott how to set a gps marker which was visible in the hud and then he wonder why he miss and hit the village next to that.
I think for the real DCS pro players he is only an another low but for the rest of the world he is the king.
15:46 I have a ton of respect for Ralfi and the time he’s spent learning the A-10, but I wouldn’t call those spoilers. Technically they’re split ailerons (edit: or decelerons). Typically a spoiler’s only job is to ruin the airflow over the wing so you can descend quickly without over speeding, or so you can slow down (or both!). Flaperons would be ailerons that can also deflect downward simultaneously to act as flaps, spoilerons are spoilers that can be individually actuated to roll the aircraft, and the fitnessgram pacer test is a multistage aerobic capacity test.
Split ailerons are two ailerons right on top of each other, so the lower surface deflects downward, like a flaperon, and the upper surface deflects upward, like a spoileron, so they’re kind of a mixture of the two. The A-10 and the B-2 are the only aircraft I can think of that have split ailerons, but I’m sure more examples exist.
Hopefully someone learns something from this! The terminology in aviation is all really nuanced and confusing at first.

Idk I liked that it was cockpit only most of the time. Drewski does some more cinematic videos too, like the J-11 video where he lands in a small town (my favorite). I like the mixture of content 🤷🏻♂️

@@michelestefanini5466 not at all. the GAU-8 can hurl a 30mm AP round at around 1,070 m/s. the round is rated to penetrate up to 38mm of steel/comp armour at 1000 metres, and 69mm at 500 metres. most MBTs have frontal glacis plates as thick as 330mm, with even older T-72s having glacis plates of around 200mm.

6:05 that’s a shilka, quite a lot less of a threat as it is an old SPAAG from the late 50’s but don’t underestimate it too much, as it can still completely destroy you if you fly to close with its x4 23mm cannons despite how bullet resistant your a-10 is.
Operation flash point made me terrified of them.
I love the Syria map so much. The level of detail makes low altitude work a joy.

@@clamum9648 That’s a pretty decent beginner setup. The TF-51 is free with the game too (Training version of the P-51). I am deeeeeep into DCS, full Virpil setup like Drewski (and lots of modules), and I can say for sure that I don’t regret a single dollar spent. I enjoy DCS a lot; more than I can explain in a single CZcams comment for sure.
I’d say that if you’re truly interested in DCS and want to start with a full fidelity module, you can get the F/A-18 (or other aircraft) on sale, and a basic stick (T-Flight HOTAS / T16000) for under 200 together and really enjoy your experience. I’ve not gone back since then.
Its the best sim ever for me and You Drewski brought my attention to it 1,5 year ago. Since then I bought dozen modules, warthog hotas and two Vr HP (G1 and G2) and still consider that the journey has just begun. Thank You Drewski!

Why yes, because the tank has both ERA and composite armor which renders autocannon sabots ineffective.
ERA Which are only fontal and only protect against a given spot against a single hit, And composite armor whos main purpose is to protect against chemical projectiles (HEAT) and is also only frontal? Don't see why either should have any effect on a top down attack from a 30mm round with 70mm of armor pen at a 30 degree angle.

The A-10s 30mm AP round has well over twice the ammount of armor penetration required to penetrate any T-80 variant from the top down... hell It doesn't even need to be top down, even 30 degrees off of top-down and it would still have absolutely 0 issue. No Reactive armor on the top of back of the tank, And the composite screens on the top of the turret are incredibly thin, The engine deck is unarmored.
@@Jacksonflax Only if you're firing STRAIGHT DOWN at the target, drewski was diving in and firing at an angle downwards which means theres a chance for richochet. You don't even know how composite armor works.
1:43, Drewski, you CAN zoom in farther than that with the Maverick. You're using the Wide FOV (indicated by the box corner markers in the quarters of the screen) and the Mavericks have a Narrow FOV as well. Mav screen SOI, press China Hat Fwd Short to toggle the FOV. The screen resolution is still crap, even in Narrow, but at least you can see things a little better.
10:12 Nails from "L" means Laser, which means someone is lasing you. Tanks and AAA use laser to track targets, but a laser from another aircraft TGP would also give you Spike "L".

SA-7 Grail is a man portable rocket man pads system from the late 60s. Russian 9k32 Strela based heavily off of the US FIM-32 Redeye. Can be fired from about 4K meters and a range of like 4km. That said difficult to detect launches given its IR. But can be defeated using maximum performance turn away and using flares.

For the tanks - you could have fired the laser hydras through their back decks. 2-3 rockets each depending on the model usually does it.

Yes 'L' is a generic laser source illumination. It can be anything from a MBT turret, a Russian EO track, a KA50 or anything else really

Sa-7 is the Grail SAM. Highly effective and at one time proposed to be mounted on a submarine and used to take down either commercial aircraft, or military flights including head of state and under Secretarial flights. Patrick Robinson wrote a book about that. It's main target though was to be the Devil's Cross...aka the A-10 Warthog.

You can get some super slick kneeboards that have all the EWR SAM identifiers as well as their table numbers for HARM PB, etc... I have them on all my jets now. Saves me alot of time :)

The 30mm rounds on the GAU-8 you used against the T-80U aren't really going to do any damage, besides degrading the optics, communication equipment, tracks, and other external systems. I think the only way you would be able to do any serious damage to the T-80 would be to hit either the weak armor at the top of the turret or the rear of the tank hull. But even then, it's equipped with Kontakt-5 on the top of the turret so it will probably reduce damage.
@@clamum9648 yep. The GAU-8 on the A-10 was originally meant to take out tanks like the T-55, T-62, and earlier T-72 variants in the 70s. However, modern Russian armor has evolved quite a lot especially in recent years, with the addition of newer ERA. So it obviously wouldn't be that effective on newer tanks.

Man the A-10 is such a complex platform. It was the first module I tried to learn and to this day its probably the only module that I still don't have down not including warbirds.

also you can zoom in more with the Mavs. What type of Mavs are you using? Because there are the ones with the IR seeker and the ones you need the TPOD for. It highly depends on those two factors. In my opinion I prefer using the D series or the Gs mainly since they are IR and have pretty good range. The G variant does have a bigger warhead so good for busting done bunkers and boats.

the thing marked as SA-7 is called the 9K32 "Strela-2"
The 9K32 "Strela-2" is a light-weight, shoulder-fired, surface-to-air missile system. It is designed to target aircraft at low altitudes with passive infrared homing guidance and destroy them with a high explosive warhead.
The wingtip airbrakes are not spoilers. Spoilers are mounted atop the wing and spoil the flow over the top surface. The A-10 has split ailerons, an aileron that also functions as an airbrake. Also called a Deceleron.

I just started this game a week ago with the base game su-25 flew 4 missions in the campaign with it and decided I needed something American. It was a hard choice between the F/A-18 or the A-10 but I went with the hog. Hopefully they come out with a super hornet. I’d switch for a super hornet. The little bit of training I flew tonight with the A-10 amazed me how well it handled (I fly with the keyboard still) it’s super stable. I can set it and still manage to slew the targeting pod around and pick things out with it. I’m pumped for it

You probably know this by now, but with the Mavs soi, you can zoom in by hitting china hat forward short I believe, its either forward or aft.
correct me if i'm wrong but i think the "L" nails on the RWR are laser warnings, i know RWR stands for radar warning receiver but it it acts more like a threat warning device. The T80 tanks have a laser range finder, so if that is whats hitting you it would make sense, would also explain why you're not penetrating the armor from the front on your gun runs.
for example no radar can tell you when a missile is fired, but the A10's system sees the IR signature of a launch and then blinks the "little red you'd better run light" at you even tho it's not entirely certain that missile is tracking you.
And that is true about the A10 being able to stay aloft for hours

Dude, use the mod for extension of your track IR. Track IR movement extension I think it's called, look it up on Steam. I can rotate my head around enough to see behind me properly. I use it constantly, and because it's client based, servers don't care.
I know this is like old tech but I still cant get over the simple fact that you just look at like 4 things in your HUD, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, and then 4 things die. Just crazy.
