He played the role of Batman in a whole TWO movies. That doesn't make him Batman. West did 120 episodes, PLUS a movie. Batman is dead. Long live Batman. But no one will ever live up to West. Being Batman, means automatically thinking of Batman whenever you see him, by virtually everyone who's known him. That doesn't happen with Keaton; his body of work (fortunately for him) means he's not typecast into the batman role (like West was, or George Reeves and Christopher Reeve was with the superman roles).

+ D.E.B. B -- I was born in 1984 and my parents didn't get cable till I was 15. I saw the Keaton movie _way_ more than the West series, and I never thought to look at the series as slapstick/satire until I was in High School. To me the "true" Batman is Kevin Conroy.

@@stvbrsn The US was a highly isolationist nation for centuries - non-Americans were not welcome. Half of all immigrants to the US in the 19th Century returned home because of that, and they were all white then, from Europe! It's not odd to characterise many Americans as being insular, inward looking, culturally elitist, isolationist. But they are exceptionally good at inculcating foreigners into their culture - over time I could have become one, but I doubt I could ever become French or German for example. That gives the US a strength very few other nations have or will ever have.

Very true, well more accurately Keaton Burton etc had solidified super hero stuff in the public conscious, but Christopher Reeve and Donner showed that comic books are really cool. They didn't tweak anything, didn't give slight changes, small alterations, no deviations it was just literally the comic book STRAIGHT brought into life. Superman the movie did that so well even Burton didn't know how to do that (which is why bats is in black, and a few other embellishments).
But Keaton captured Bruce Wayne perfectly! The Batman movie was the other shoe dropping, while Superman set the new standard, because of Superman the Movie films had to come up with a high quality budget before even approaching a comic book

It started going downhill when Keaton dominated the conversation at the very start (like he says - he likes to talk.) Then Colbert seemed to take umbrage at the thought of a slight against Michael Jackson. This was 4 years ago now.. doesn't look like he's been on the show since. Maybe now with his role on the Flash..
