FGO had already introduced Foreigner, and debateably Beast depending on whether you count that as a Servant class or not. Shielder and MoonCancer were both technically introduced previously but FGO officially canonized the former and upgraded the latter to Servant class.
And not only that, but you can even argue that, unless otherwise stated, that this “new class” really is more of a reinterpretation of Case Files’ Faker, in which case Pretender isn’t really new, it’s just been reformed from Faker to a similar equivalent. But anyways, if anything at least this mean when Case Files gets it’s rerun, there’s a high chance we’ll see Hephaestion.
FGO is the cashcow of type-moon, Nasu had to retire half of the dead apostle ancestors just because of the powercreep. When any 5 stars divine spirit can throw celestial bodies around Acr and Crimson Moon look kind of cute in comparison with a walking blackhole that is U-Olga that Thanos the planet before it even manifesting. Even then FGO is the route where the manifest destiny of the Age of Will manifest at its strongest as humans like Kiara, Berly and Wodine achieve power that surpass the old gods and the Planet's Order.

That's why I would have preferred for Pretenders to do more damage to Knight classes and do less damage to Calvary class rather than them be obliterated by Calvary classes... but it is what it is. I'm just happy that Foreigners finally have something else that they can obliterate that is specifically for them, I mean technically they don't get hit hard by Zerks but that used to be it. Also definitely happy that Alter Ego has an official class counter now instead of just throw a Zerker at it or bring a Knight class servant and do your best to outdamage.
Is the logic of them is like 'foreigner' beat 'berserker'? Pretender: the one who can change his own personality with losing who he is. Alter Ego: the one who brought to existence because of change in personality.
The power of Tosshiyuki Toyonaga. My favorite character he played is Mikado Ryuugamine. His voice changed fantastically as Mikado's mental state regress and regress in pursue of his extraordinary in DRRR. He's awesome.

A lot of sub-classes that exist in Fate Lore have yet to be introduced into Grand Order, though I have a feeling that once they start work on another Fate/ Game, there is a chance they will re-brand a lot of characters class-wise.
This is gonna give me trust issues. Now I'm gonna be thinking every new ally from the chapter going forward are sus, and that they could quite possibly be a Pretender. They just turned this into "Fate/Among Us".
I like how if you got the correct choices and chose the options in red, you get different voice lines from Oberon when he uses his NP, saying "I don't have ANYTHING to tell you anymore"
@@Furigou Throughout the story, there were some dialogue options with Oberon that we can't skip (literally, the skip button disappeared)......after that, some players saw these special conversation at this last act with Oberon where us as Fujimaru can choose a normal white line (more innocent reply) and a red one (with way serious tone and implying a cold Fujimaru that was suspicious about Oberon all along) It seems that whenever we were having dialogue that were not skip-able, as long as we choose the option that showed suspicions towards Oberon, we get to see these special red dialogue in this last act. Also, now adding with what romand271 said, its would seems DW is starting to experiment with dialogues influenced scenario.....interesting......
It's also raised some concern among players, whether are we still Fujimaru or are we actually related/controlled/replaced by Outer Gods or even the Alien God.

Mothman became edgy and evil. I like it. The intro is also a great introduction to the Pretender Class. Also, that NP is both creepy and awesome. Reminds me of Dark Souls for some reason. Wry Rhyme Goodfellow is the NP of Dreams, and Lie Like Vortigern is the NP of Nightmares. Also, I'm super happy with the job Umino-sensei did with Oberon's art throughout this. Can't wait to see if she illustrates more characters in Fate or in any other games.

Fun fact: The boss's +2 Charge skill can be used even if him using it would cause him to NP instantly, unlike other bosses who normally won't use their charge skill. His normal Charge skill instead takes that position. So yeah worst case scenario, it's possible for him to spam his NP.
boss using charge skill then instantly use NP in the same turn has been in the game since forever though lol. I remember Gilgamesh could do that since launch

Oberon breaks that rule since his AI is more complicated and...yeah he can just use the +2 charge one instead (His +1 charge follows the rule)

If we become able to summon goetia in the future, there is a very real chance that he Will be pretender class. He had pretended to be someone else(Solomon) and even hidden his true class as caster. The class affinity isn't even that far off his beast class one, being Strong against the knight classes and weak against cavalry.
Can’t believe I missed this. I’ve been seeing all the comparisons to the Faker class and even some people throwing out a potential Pretender Kingu, but this is actually the most viable possibility for a summonable Pretender servant. From what I’ve read, Pretender doesn’t just mean someone with a false identity. It also apparently requires the servant in question to have opposed Pan-Human History and the human order in the past, which Vortigern apparently did. Of the characters I’ve seen thrown around as potential Pretenders, only Kingu counts for that end, but I doubt DW would use him because he’d just be Enkidu with a different class. Goetia hits all the notes for lore and gameplay.
I'm interested to see if he reverts to become more Vortigern-like as he ascends, like the Fairy Knights, or if this is his final ascension. Edit: because grammar
In Garden of Avalon Gawain describes Vortigern wearing dark armor, which you can kinda see hints of in Oberon's arms and legs. Considering GoA is also written by Nasu, I'm sure he kept it in mind, and is kind of what I'm hoping for, considering how much talk there was of Saber Alter resembling Vortigern.
I thought this was his last ascension like how Abigails is all dark compared to her first. I figured his 1st is the one used in the story a lot, second was the one all dressed in white where he looks very princely(used a few times in story) and this was the 3rd.
Finally, we have the flipside to the Alter Ego class. Now they just need to add two or three more Pretenders to flesh things out and balance will finally be achieved.
On a lighter side of the spectrum I wonder if someone like Patroclus would qualify seeing as his major claim to fame was pretending to be Achilles and essentially triggering the continuation of the trojan war with his death in doing so. I honestly cant wait to learn more about this class!

Pretender Class from the information that I gathered is strong against Alter Egos but weak against Foreigners and there the inverse of Alter Egos when it comes to their specialty where they are strong against the Knight Classes but are weak against the Calvary Class.
So we have the Knight Triangle, the Cavalry Triangle, the Extra Triangle, and whatever this new Triangle is between Alter Egos, Foreigners, and -Fakers- Pretenders. And of course Shielder and Berserker are kinda just there.

Pretty nice that Foreigner gets another class advantage - glad to see my Abby and Hokusai might get a chance to be story vips again. Makes me curious if we'll start seeing more Pretenders as Event Servants now. Wouldn't be surprised if Abe No Seimei ends up being one, since he's Douman's foil and the Pretender class seems to be the foil to Alter Egos.

Technically speaking, he has black chitinous armor on his arm and legs, black royal veil and his NP turns him in the thing that can be called a “dragon” - dragonfly or some sort of it

Speaking of Grand, I've always wondered how Daybit found a way to form a contract with a Grand Servant in the first place. Something like that shouldn't be possible without said Servant relinquishing their Grand title (like what First Hassan did in Babylonia).

Can someone clarify this for me. Oberon Vortigern is a combination of the Vortigern of pan human history and Oberon, one of the 1000 year calamities. The fairies of the forest believed Vortigern to be Oberon and this belief caused the Oberon calamity to become one with Vortigern, creating Oberon • Vortigern. The Vortigern of PHH had knowledge of Oberon from PHH, which was both a character in a play and perhaps a fairy that Shakespeare met (this bit of a PHH Oberon is a theory mostly) and because of some confusion on his part and an identity crisis, this was the Oberon he came to act as. When the Welsh forest burnt down, Vortigern's malice and evil combined with the rage and resentment of the calamity oberon and it caused this to eventually occur. I'm also certain that if its true, the fairy Shakespeare met could have become the calamity Oberon if under the right circumstances, similarly to Barghest and Melusine.
From what I understand the version in the lostbelt is just Vortigern who was brainwashed by the Welch fairies 🧚♀️ into thinking he was Oberon. When the Welch fairies died the brainwashing ended. The summonable version might role Oberon into the servant as a way to suppress Vortigern Also PHH Oberon is involved with Siegfried story to be specific he guarded the Nibelungen Treasure

Fun fact: The boss's +2 Charge skill can be used even if him using it would cause him to NP instantly, unlike other bosses who normally won't use their charge skill. His normal Charge skill instead takes that position. So yeah worst case scenario, it's possible for him to spam his NP.

Oberon breaks that rule since his AI is more complicated and...yeah he can just use the +2 charge one instead (His +1 charge follows the rule)

If we become able to summon goetia in the future, there is a very real chance that he Will be pretender class. He had pretended to be someone else(Solomon) and even hidden his true class as caster. The class affinity isn't even that far off his beast class one, being Strong against the knight classes and weak against cavalry.
Maybe, Goetia might've been a sort of "pretender prototype"
Can’t believe I missed this. I’ve been seeing all the comparisons to the Faker class and even some people throwing out a potential Pretender Kingu, but this is actually the most viable possibility for a summonable Pretender servant.
From what I’ve read, Pretender doesn’t just mean someone with a false identity. It also apparently requires the servant in question to have opposed Pan-Human History and the human order in the past, which Vortigern apparently did. Of the characters I’ve seen thrown around as potential Pretenders, only Kingu counts for that end, but I doubt DW would use him because he’d just be Enkidu with a different class. Goetia hits all the notes for lore and gameplay.
If we get summonable Surtr he’ll probably be pretender class as well considering he was faking as Sigurd on us for 80% of the story.

In Garden of Avalon Gawain describes Vortigern wearing dark armor, which you can kinda see hints of in Oberon's arms and legs.
Considering GoA is also written by Nasu, I'm sure he kept it in mind, and is kind of what I'm hoping for, considering how much talk there was of Saber Alter resembling Vortigern.

I thought this was his last ascension like how Abigails is all dark compared to her first. I figured his 1st is the one used in the story a lot, second was the one all dressed in white where he looks very princely(used a few times in story) and this was the 3rd.

Well, to be fair we started out with ruler class. Orleans revealed that instantly so the seven classes were only by themselves in Fuyuki
Finally, we have the flipside to the Alter Ego class. Now they just need to add two or three more Pretenders to flesh things out and balance will finally be achieved.

Pretender Class from the information that I gathered is strong against Alter Egos but weak against Foreigners and there the inverse of Alter Egos when it comes to their specialty where they are strong against the Knight Classes but are weak against the Calvary Class.

Speaking of Grand, I've always wondered how Daybit found a way to form a contract with a Grand Servant in the first place. Something like that shouldn't be possible without said Servant relinquishing their Grand title (like what First Hassan did in Babylonia).

Can someone clarify this for me. Oberon Vortigern is a combination of the Vortigern of pan human history and Oberon, one of the 1000 year calamities. The fairies of the forest believed Vortigern to be Oberon and this belief caused the Oberon calamity to become one with Vortigern, creating Oberon • Vortigern.
The Vortigern of PHH had knowledge of Oberon from PHH, which was both a character in a play and perhaps a fairy that Shakespeare met (this bit of a PHH Oberon is a theory mostly) and because of some confusion on his part and an identity crisis, this was the Oberon he came to act as.
When the Welsh forest burnt down, Vortigern's malice and evil combined with the rage and resentment of the calamity oberon and it caused this to eventually occur.
I'm also certain that if its true, the fairy Shakespeare met could have become the calamity Oberon if under the right circumstances, similarly to Barghest and Melusine.
