  • Early in 2020 Sailor introduced the Japanese Fairy Tale set of 4 fountain pens to the global market. These Pro Gear Slim model pens feature subtle solid colors with light gold shimmer embedded in the material. These special edition pens are mostly just color variations of the popular Pro Gear Slim model with the same nib and dimensions, but we thought showing the material up close would be particularly helpful in this video. Let us know what you think in the comments!

    Well done Brian.. good information and nicely presented.. I have to say.. after 10 years at this you have maintained your personality and pleasant attitude. You, Rachel, Drew and everyone on the team really helped me through a rather dark time in my life over the past 8 or 9 years. Losing my Dad and Mom.. 2 kitties, two beloved pups and 14 surgeries.. a bunch of spinal fusions.. my wife and two young boys have been great, but having the external interests in my pens, inks and paper.. and the Goulet Pen Company made such a difference.. so, thank you!!

      Wow, thank you so much for sharing all that Frank, and for the kind words and support. Over the same time we've been through quite a bit ourselves. As funny as it may sound, producing these videos actually helps me in much the same way. I find it fairly cathartic to make them, and the fact you (and others) appreciate them is extremely gratifying for me. While we continue to navigate production challenges here at Goulet Pens, I am still inspired to produce what we can for the foreseeable future. -Brian

    I received Dragon Palace as a Christmas gift. It’s lovely! Initially, I was concerned that I might not enjoy it, since I usually prefer the wider 21K nibs on Sailors’ larger offerings (not to mention that my long fingers and Slenderman-like hands devour more petite models). Alas, I’m thrilled to have this jewel in my collection, and its color reminds me of vintage jadeite dinnerware. I might need to pick up Grateful Crane, as both pair so well with my favourite Manyo and Studio inks. Haha! (Bad pun intended!) 🤟😆🤣

    Sailor really knows how to get to the heart of pen buyers. First, create amazing pens. Second, give them beautiful names. This Fairy Tale series and the Amaoto (Sound of Rain) series are great examples. The Rain series have both the translucent look, and also the look of a frosted window, or looking out a window on a rainy day. for me, I force myself to practice restraint by waiting mainly for the new addition to the Cocktail series (and then not buying it). So so tempted to get the Vega and either the Harusame or Suiu ones... *falls over*

      I prefer plastic/resin bodies because I can convert it to eyedropper. I write quite often and filling the converter that has around 1ml to almost 2ml of ink often is quite annoying to me. I'd rather much have a pen that can hold 5ml-6ml of ink capacity.
      The pens that I keep that has a converter are the ones that are (for me) used to try different inks. Meanwhile my everyday carry will have the eyedropper fountain pen. Simply because that will last a loooong time before I need to refill it.

    I'm having such a hard time not picking up a Pro Gear. I've been looking at them for a bit now, and after the announcement of the Too Hot Habanero, I don't know if I can stop myself. I just worry about the nib. I have a Pilot 912 in medium that is my favorite nib in my collection. I would love to get a medium-fine because they are so unique but I hear from everyone that Sailor runs thinner and has more feedback than Pilot. Don't know if I should risk it and get a Pro Gear with a nib that has a combination of thinness and feedback, or I could hold off and consider the upcoming Pilot custom heritage SE. That looks incredible as well. Why does everyone have to keep coming out with orange pens that cost hundreds of dollars! Do they not know my weakness?

I hope I could get your advice: I got a brand new shikiori and dipped it into iroshizuku pilot ink, after a few days I noticed that it is leaking into the barrel (I have no converter or cartridge in at the moment). • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  Před 3 lety +2

      I completely hear where you're coming from! I don't know if they'll change it in the future, but for a while they've only been doing their special pens with limited nib options. That's the tough thing about these pens, they have such a wide range of nibs, and Sailor really in the grade scheme of things isn't a huge company...so trying to globally distribute new colors in a full range of nib sizes is a logistical nightmare, so undoubtedly if they were to do that they would have fewer new pens to offer as a result...it's some of the challenge with any pen company, how to offer a lot of options but still hit the bullseye in terms of inventory management...get it wrong and manufacturers get bogged down with unwanted stock. If they limit the options to the most popular nib options they'll have the easiest time distributing them and they can focus more on the next pens they're developing. It's a delicate dance! -Brian
