    Very harsh putting furbank tier 3. Based on this season deserves tier 1 he’s been on incredible form. Maybe I could see tier 2 based on when he played for England. But that was years ago, he’s the only English fullback beside Goode who can actually be a play maker.

      Furbank has had a great start to the season. But he’s not test class.

      Totally agree. His fly-half performance against Harlequins and his finishing against Toulon were outstanding.

      I think the playmaking FB option is worth mentioning, as we know Borthwick is keen on that.

      I second that. Smith at 10, Burbank at 15 is the perfect double playmaker combo for me if England want to go that way

    I think Furbank should be tier 2 at least and you've missed out Tommy Seabrook and James Ramm, both are quality wingers who I'm pretty sure are English qualified.

    With Ben Youngs retirement from international rugby a spot does seem available for the Six Nations at scrum half. Guy Warr has the kicking game, if we continue down the same route we have been doing. He's very accurate and probably suits Sale's game plan well. Does he suit England's? I think he is an outside bet. Mitchell, Spencer and Care lead my betting with Will Porter of Harlequins for the B Team fixtures.
    The Northampton contingent looked good against Toulon. Although, they may have picked up a few injuries to Hendy and Sleightholme. Their quarters look excellent. Mitchell, F Smith, Litchfield, Freeman, Sleightholme, Hendy Furbank, possibly a strong looking England contingent. Given that we normally don't have much time to put a quarter line together. Might be worth looking at that list and taking away and adding a player who you think is better. M Smith... who else gets in ahead? O Lawrence? W Joseph? C Murley? I guess it depends on how we want to look to play.
    Curious as to what you think of Aaron Reed, premiership top try scorer?

    Leicester - Honestly, don't see any difference in potential between Hassell-Collins & van Poortvliet. I wasn't impressed with either but I'd say if he just keeps expanding his general technical game, VP has more potential. Every national team has tonnes of potential winger who are quite fast & can finish off a try. It requires a lot more!
    Plus, it's a bit of an insult to a player like Cole, who put in solid performance after solid performance. Nobody saying he's the best prop in the world but it's relative.
    Northampton - Totally agree with most your picks, super exciting. Pearson in particular. However, I think I'd probably keep Fin Smith & Hendy in Tier 2 or 1.5. Although, their specific skills & playing styles excite me!
    A bit flabbergasted Furbank isn't in Tier 2. Especially, as a 2nd playmaker at 15, which might suit Borthwick's tactics.
    Sale - Agree with most of your picks. Warr isn't close to Tier 1 for me, just don't think he has the sufficient game for international rugby yet but soon!
    I'd probably put Quirke in Tier 3 & Jonny Hill up to Tier 2.
    Saracens - Totally agree with all your picks!

  • @darthmaul408
    @darthmaul408 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Previously I would agree on Furbank. I felt he was forced into the team by Jones. However, this season Id argue he’s been tier 1. Excellent all round game and he’s got playmaking skills which would allow a more physical 12-13 pairing.
    Radwan should be tier 1. As per Wayne Smith’s previous comments, let’s get him into an international environment and work on his flaws rather than ignore the amazing things he can do. Wings primary job is to score tries and put fear into the opposition. The fixation on kick chase and defence first is going to rob England of a serious talent.

    • @JohnRidley12
      @JohnRidley12 Před 8 měsíci

      yeah, I get not picking him last year. But now you can spend time working on what he needs to do. IIRC Johnny May was once positionally clueless but he's now getting games because of his aerial game.

    Sale fan here, Alex groves has only really played in the cup games early on in the season from what I’ve seen of him he seems decent but unfortunately I think he’s a bit behind the pecking order eg Ben bamber I think is probably ahead of him in terms of sales eyes and and even Ernst Van Rhyn played ahead of him in lock so yeah he hasn’t featured that much unfortunately for him not even sure if he’s injured coz there has been any appearances on the bench I don’t think.
    I think Aaron reed and Asher Opoku-Fordjour should of got a mention. Reed just because he has been electric and quite prolific although I do not think that he should be getting in the England team due to his size he is still a tricky player that has impressed. Asher though is an outstanding player at times has single-handedly won us games with his powerful scrummaging I honestly don’t think I’ve seen him lose a scrum penalty either with him on the pitch (I could be wrong, but that’s what it feels like) and also a massively outside should but Sam Dugdale is a work horse his work rate is outstanding and get himself about a bit too aggressive at times which can cause unnecessary penalties and his handling isn’t the best but he is a tackling monster obviously a massive outside shot but still fun to talk about rugby coz there isn’t much opportunity to.

    • @rugbyanalyst
      @rugbyanalyst  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Fantastic feedback, what's so promising about Asher OF is that his strength is already his scrummaging at a young age. Could well be what England have been looking for.

    Freeman for 13. Argument for a Northampton 9-13 with Mitchell, F Smith, Dingwall and Freeman. A Lawrence and Freeman midfield would be power

    I think Gus Warr looks made for international rugby. Has a good running game and engine though probably not on Quirke or Mitchell's level. What he does brilliantly though is the basics. Really great box kicking, passing consistency, defence. Looks like an international player.
    Star dust is great in international rugby but first and formost, you cant make mistakes. Gus Warr barely makes any. Needs a shot I think.
    Similar story with Fin Smith. Maybe not as flash as someone like Marcus Smith but is such a complete 10 for someone so young. Looks like the hier to Ford as a complete game controller. Also, Saints attack speaks for itself and hes key to that so its not like hes a boring player at all.
    Another Saints lad to keep an eye on is Archie McParland. Looked absolutely mustard at 9 in the prem cup. Only 18 so a way off full international call ups but will be playing England U20s this year. One to watch for sure.
    One name you missed off for Falcons is Redshaw. Its hard to gauge him too much in what is a poor side but anyone whos first choice for a prem side at 18 years old is definitely a talent. Played for England u18s as well and looked great. Fairly sure hes captained them too. A few years off an international call up for the senior side but definitely one to watch.

    McIntyre is as good as any other prop in the premiership, Roebuck and Hill for tier 1, Hill has had a top drawer season up to now and Carpenter so much more dynamic than Steward but would like to see Radwan been given time and chance to bed in or not - truly scary pace. Spencer good shout for a start with Mitchell, Ware fan but readily recognise the quality of the other two. Prefer Martin over Chessum and Ludlum has never failed to perform in an England shirt imo, plenty of creative talent but surely the question is whether we have the coaches with a vision to harness that talent.

    I genuinely think we need to blood new players this six nations with one eye on the next World Cup. Is George Ford still going to be playing then? Doubt it. Get the young gun firing.
    The front row is where we were weak. Start there. Get the platform right.

  • @mikelambrou4462

    Ben Youngs has retired so probably shouldn’t appear at all. I rate Cole higher than Tier 3. Raffi Quirke and JvP way better prospects than Gus Warr IMO. At Sale the coming man in second row is Bamber, he’s overtaken Groves in the pecking order at Sale and just as big

  • @fraserposford144

    Isiekwe has been given plenty of chances with England and not stepped up. Tom Parton is a massive snub from the list, excellent for London Irish and a bargain transfer for Saracens. Schonert is South African so likely not to declare for England, especially at 32 years old.

      Ilione needs to play more I think. For me he's got all the talent in the world and the physical attributes. I just wish we'd see more of him! I guess when you've got the club captain in your position it's a bit tough.

    • @mikelambrou4462
      @mikelambrou4462 Před 8 měsíci

      Pollock is a potential test superstar so I think he’s a good shout. Lewis Chessum was mentioned and is a possible test player but needs to start punching his weight/size and I really like IIione but I think the others you mention are good club players, nothing more.

    Seriously JvP tier3 ? I usually agree with all your analyses but that is very off for me. What he needs is game time at the club for sure after the injury before thinking going back to the big pool but I don't see how that makes him a tier 3. He is bloody talented and as quick as any other S-H when he is behind a good pack of forwards, unfortunately for England you don’t generate tempo when your forwards don’t generate quick ball.

    Your tier one players….. mmmmmmm. All Steward can do is catch a ball - sometimes. Furbank is a far more complete player.
    What have Ludlum or Pearson ever done? Ludlum is a workhorse, but totally overrated. You clearly think the sun shines out of Pearsons’s lower portions, but he’s not exactly setting the world alight this year. Elliot Daly used to be a good player, but he’s hardly the future.

      Luckily we can test that theory because they play in the URC and Champions Cup.The Stormers just lost to Leicester last week. The Sharks have been pretty poor in the URC this year. They're currently 15th out of 16.
