- Broken Tenere 700 side stand safety switch Now what! Here's the trick fix.
The simplest of things can make a great day into one heck of a headache! nothing worse than being out in the bush only to strike your under carriage on the tenere 700 regardless what bash plate skid plate you have, you contact that fragile little side stand switch even with the little protector over it it no match for impact ! boom brake it and then you' re stranded ! a simple little wire tap or quick wire splice connector is all you need to get you going until you can get a proper fix!
I dont recommend that you bypass your side stand switch cause thats still a safety feature but if you ever run into this type of trouble you'll know what to do to get your bike mobile again !

Thanks for sharing Rob! You did a very good job explaining how it can break and what options you have in terms of fixing 👍
Thank you for your support and kind feedback !
Cheers and be safe.
Rob
thanks for the zip tie tip, got one of those bypass switches in my tool kit, going to put a zip tie on it now before i forget. Thanks
Thank you for your support and feedback, cheers and have a great 2021 ride season.
Rob went offroading for 3 days on my Tracer 900, it was simply fantastic. Came back a bit bruised and extremely tired. Can believe the Tracer took the terrain with little issues
Thats awesome ! did you guys tent it or found rooms. hope to see some images through our shared social. nice to hear you are back safe and sound, bruises make for great stories... Cheers
Rob
@@itsadyerthing We stayed in hotels at Parry Sound and Huntsville.
@@zakmilas sounds like my kinda camping too 😁😁 love the comfort !
Nice info Rob. By the way I was wondering that park2park has a message on their web site that its sold out on tickets to trail. Where do you get your tickets to trails.
You have a link to the plug you purchased to make the bypass jumper?
Chk better skid plates too to avoid this problem altogether - In my opinion Thor skids pretty well...
Thanks for the informative suggestion.
Cheers
Rob
Hi Rob, thank you for your explanation. Maybe I'm getting old and stupid -:) but why do you need to cut the cable and use a wire slice connector if after a few rotations of the side stand you can turn on the engine again? Or do I miss something. Krgds Ray
They don't all brake the same. I lucked out on mine where it was spinning on itself where my buddies exploded into pieces.. eventually min no longer worked ether.
Again you can splice and connect wires or use a connection like I made. Both work same way in the end..
@@itsadyerthingI see. Understood. Thanks for your reply!
One of the first things I did was delete the side stand switch. It's still there, but tucked up inside the skid plate in the "stand up" position. I figure my 1000 lb Harley doesn't care if the kickstand is down...
I'm getting used to it but I'll swap it out once received.
Thanks for the feedback and support.
Cheers
Rob
I've done the same repair on every Yamaha I have owned, as well as my Triumph 800 Tiger.
And off road bikes seem to do just fine without them as well?
Where did you buy the white bypass switch connector?
there are a few places that offer it or you can even make your own at a great price. you can check via aliexpress for a DIY kit. I found that to be best offered, just search for a 2 Pin Sumitomo Female Male Kit Auto Connector
Good video Rob. The only surgestion I can give you is buy a Suzuki.
Like the way you think !
Do remember I am also on the dark ninja side with Suzuki... got some good trails ahead with her this coming weekend !!!
Yep. The T7 staying home and playing with with Suzuki.... 🤣🤣🤣
Yamaha is the number one rated reliability brand by the way LOL

@@ThomasFunnyCarGuy no way Ktm hands down better

No self respecting T7 owner would ever just cut and join wires together. That type of hack is strictly reserved for the DR650 owners
Hahahah but question is, where would the garbage can mod come in play on such hack ? 🤣 thanks for the support.
Cheers
Rob
What about a new T7 owner that still owns his DR650? 😂
Don´t over do it. Unbolten it, reposition it, secure it.
Then, if you want to put it back in its original postion before selling it, just bolt it back. No cutting or mutilation needed.
I could make a video using 5000 words for no reason to explain it, but why?
It's not a tutorial on how to eliminate the switch. It's a how to get yourself going if your on the trail and it fails. If it failed then guarantee its broken and need to be replaced therefore it makes no difference whether you cut it. Thus for the 5000 words if explaining which wasn't enough to be Clear for some people 😁😁
Thanks for your feedback
Rob
Hate being negative - but all i wanted was to see where to go to install the bipass- vid is way too long , Rob uses so many words when one will do. Hope this is viewed constructively.
And that's how the birth of Tiktoc came to be 😉😉
