Strong deductive reasoning, although I could see myself justifying the sunglasses just to prove that knowing what your talking about is badass. Especially if I could pull it off as well as this guy does.
Also, he also likely memorizes at least some lines where there is too great a distance between subject and camera for most teleprompters to work. if it's just flashing 1-3 words, that can be hard to sound natural like he does. Those are the ones that work from a great enough distance for that exterior downward yaw shot for instance.
Important to note, while at times he looks off frame, there are significant periods where he does not. While I did not have the best lighting conditions, I looked for a sideways reflection of a teleprompter and saw none. Some teleprompters are fairly low light though, and hiding it in the shadow may have been sufficient.

The best review of a car you can get comes from an honest mechanic. Salesmen wouldn't tell the truth and car reviewers usually look at new cars or quirky cars, but they don't consider the long-term ownership. For those of us who prefer buying a car once a decade (or less), we want to have some confidence that it won't become an expensive basket case within that time. I'd rather, in fact, be able to sell or give away a car with a lot of life left in it - so the next owner doesn't get burned on it. I would feel bad selling a car that's near the end of life on a $20K component. (Even $5k is outside a lot of people's means.)

Good video. I believe Tesla battery packs will only become more difficult to repair in the newer models. Like Apple has done with its batteries, Tesla is moving toward tighter integration of the battery with the rest of the vehicle in order to improve range and reduce initial cost, with repairability sacrificed in the process. I foresee many of these packs ending up being shipped to third world countries where 12 year old boys will pick through them and harvest the recyclable materials. Not good.

If there are just a failure in electric cirquit or few damaged cells, the battery can be repaired. That is not going to be very common.
Typically cells age evenly especially when temperature management is good. The daisy chain failure which was mentioned in the video means that practically all cells have aged into level where they can't operate properly.
When used right, a pack can withstand a lots of miles especially if they are driven over short period of time. If the car is closing 20 year age, it becomes more important what have been average charge level or temperature during the storage.
Batteries like to be in 50% charge level and stored in a cool place. Hot is generally bad since it accelerates unwanted chemical reactions.

I agree with the conclusions and see a market for cell repairs to keep these EVs in operation for the next generation of owners in the lower economic bracket, who undoubtedly will constitute the largest portion of owners in the coming years. With regard to release of the first Tesla roadsters it is essential they were released early as this expedites engineering quality loop feedback and accelerated improvement. In theory, no car or product is perfect when first to market, however Tesla has implemented firmware as you stated and improvements can now be made "on the fly". If Tesla is not equipped to do battery restorations, hopefully they begin to do outsourcing and referrals to authorized third parties to fix and refurbish batteries, it could be a good cottage industry for a lot of the technicians who will be put out of work in the ICE vehicle sector. This expands beyond Tesla, as VW, Hyundai, GM, etc will also need to have businesses equipped to repair batteries.

I am contemplating replacing the p85 motor w/ the smaller s60 rear drive units - they appear to be much more reliable. Will be looking at a company like gruber to do it. Did you have coolant leakage, or what was the failure problem with yours? I have a feeling the fluid (atf & coolant) might need to be changed at a schedule of more like 15-20k miles instead of 50k. I wonder what Gruber knows about this. Rich Rebuilds replaced his p85 motor w/ a small rear drive motor for $4k.

If the cells start wearing out, might as well replace the whole pack, the labor to take it our, fix a few cells and put it back is probably 80% of the cost. Once you hit the back end of the the 'bathtub curve' , it's over for that whole pack.

He’s SPOT ON about the longevity. Yes fewer moving parts hence cheaper to maintain but if electric cars have expensive and rare to find battery packs, they make those throw away vehicles so ordinary consumers would rather spend $25-$40k on a brand new gasoline vehicle that might break down in a few years but easy to find a cheap used or brand new engine/transmission to replace than paying for a Tesla or alternative brand for 7-9 yrs only to need a battery replacement for the price of a used gasoline car. Not to mention the recharging stations are few and scattered also adding to unreliability of taking long trips. We have that range anxiety.

I live in a Cold Climate, CT. It's cold in the winter and they use salt on the roads mixed with sand. It will eat a car and well bridges too. That being said, I have only seen one of these cars where I live. Low production numbers mean there is not a whole lot of them around Gee's Ford sold 800000 F-150s last year. And Good luck if you want a Toyota Tundra. I have a more positive view of EV's than I did. They are a niche vehicle. For some people sure it's the way to go, for people like me that live in a very very rural area and that would be for a good chunk of the country, no it does not make any sense at all. You are going to have to be a near electrical and computer engineer to do the kind of service that is coming with them. What good is a car if in order to fix it you have to spend a day taking it apart another day or two to effect the repair and then another day putting it all back together? And you know that such skilled labor is going to be billed out at well over 100 dollars an hour. Gas-powered cars are not going to disappear, in your lifetime or in your great grand children's lifetime. Then there is the issue of the dirty toxic lithium mining, electricity to run the vehicles, and everything else. Not exactly pollution-free, but that is another subject and argument.
