  • The MTB tyre pressure challenge - How low can they go? Me and Lewi Pilgrim go head to head at Twisted Oaks Bike Park to see who can get their tire to the lowest PSI before destruction on MTB trails and jumps but who will win?
    Me and Lewi Pilgrim go head to head at twisted Oaks bike park on full speed MTB trails, huge gap jumps, table tops and fast berms with the goal being to find out who's tyre can get to the lowest PSI before it blows off the rim or gets a puncture. We decide to use the super fun trails of twisted oaks, one of our favourite local bike parks because of it big variety of trails, perfect sandy berms and most importantly, good vibes! We start the video off with some GoPro runs through the best lines with our tyre pressure dropping by 10 PSI each time until we get to 30 where we then go down in PSI by 5 each time until destruction. Each time we let out some pressure we ride a different trail to spice up the action. But how low do you think we can go before the end?
    I hope you enjoy the video!

      @ManWalksDogs Před rokem +1

      I don't think my track pump has the knob adjuster valve but it does make me want to check it.
      ...Ahh, just recalled a little spring-loaded button that does the same trick.
      I know I have two flats but then also know I need to replace both tyres (and i think replace one of the badly patched tubes) before bothering to pump them back up again. I'd usually cram as much psi in until I can no longer push the pump fully down, then a quick dab on the button before releasing the pump, maybe a quick tap of the Presta valve nut too before doing it up. But I don't run high pressures for the same reason as Sam...

I think it's like 34-36 psi for me in back depending on the tire casing and how worn out the tire is (have to pump them harder when they get older). Sometimes though just don't want to deal with downhill pinch flats and then it's 45+ for me on the dh bike.

    3 or 4 PSI. On the fatbike in real winter (Canada) on a fresh snowfall, with loose snow. That's with 4.5" wide tires: 45NRTH studded Wrathchild tires. Those tires on 4" wide rims feel somewhat firm at 10 PSI - the tires are quite tall. It's all about traction in winter on snow and ice! We get enough snow here the rocky-rooty trails get smooth. Total winter snowfall is in the 160 - 400 cm range over 4 - 5 months, with a few bouts of freezing rain too...

So now I run 20-28 in the front and 32-40 in the rear on cheap tubeless tires. The rear is a lot higher because I sit almost chopper style, with most of my weight over the back tire.

    Surely the tyre pressure is dependent on the tyre you run I run a Magic Mary and found they like about 16psi as the side walls are quite stiff. But on a Maxxis Dhr or the Disector I would run at about 26psi on the same bike. I am not about the big jumps and tricks that is for hero’s like Sam not me.

    Come on Sam.
    As per my last video comment.
    Bring on the expanding foam!
    Don't forget you might need some steam to make it set inside the tire.

    It would be interesting to see the other way around - increase the pressure until a tyre blows up on the trail.
