    Went here at Christmas 2016, it's amazing! And then we caught Donald Sutherland and Gene Wilder film START THE REVOLUTION WITHOUT ME and realized it was shot there!!

    Nice video. It must also be noted that the castle is a private property and not a national monument. The De Vogüé family keeps this castle alive all year long and the Christmas decorations are, for example, magnificent.

    !!! I love that place. I was a guest of the Count who grew up there a few years ago (Alexandre de Vogüé - he is lovely) who has such passion for the chateau and for keeping it alive. Never got to see the candles though!

    Thanks for the great tip. This place is soo much better than Versailles!! No crowds, you almost feel like you have the place to yourself. We went on a Saturday with the fireworks and candles, amazing!!

    Thanks for the chance to visit V le V again! We went to Paris last November and toured this beautiful chateau and estate. Well worth the effort of getting there. I love Paris and can't wait to return soon. Appreciate all you do to let us live vicariously through you, Jay!

    These fireworks are better than the ones in my neighborhood in the Bronx, NY. The only exception is that it starts two weeks before July 4th and ends in the first week of August.

    There is something to be said to not follow guides. Time and again I wonder why people fall for it, but I suppose it feels 'safer'. It is not for me, better to be curious and experience it, like a dish where both the ingredients and how it is made comes from tasting. Ah well, to each his own.

      As someone who has been to both, as Jay says, this is a more human sized, better crafted chateau. I'm sure you will have a great time, I would highly recommend this over Versailles except if you are a huge fan of French gardens, then go for Versailles first. Have a lovely time in Paris!

      Versailles is beautiful but you will miss the whole point of visiting Versailles if u dont have a brief idea of the stories in Versailles and brief history about the place before u visit it. Also a lot of people miss out on the Trianon which are more enchanting for me than the main palace

    Beautiful place, looks far more interesting and doable than Versailles. I think it reopened last year after a multi-million euro refurb & it looks like money well spent. I noticed that the station you left Paris from had trains to Provins. Another worthwhile day trip for history fans, the old part is a walled medieval town with ramparts.

    Beautiful editing! You keep getting better and better. The French television program "Secrets d'histoire" did a show about Nicolas Fouquet, the person who built Vaux-le-Vicomte and was thrown in prison by Louis IV: czcams.com/video/fSuihqEZiCQ/video.html Unfortunately, I cannot find a version with subtitles.

      @@bookswithb2684 There used to be a version on CZcams with French subtitles, but unfortunately it has been removed. "Secrets d'histoire" has a CZcams channel, so the show may reappear someday. The show has been on france.tv, but to see it from the US you have to use a VPN with a server in France, and there are still no subtitles.

    How did you get back to Paris after missing the bus? Over a week ago it wasn't that easy going back to Paris from Versailles since the train I got on did not leave after all and had to go to another station, I followed the crowd 🤣.

      Crowds are helpful. There was one last late-buss that went all the way back into Paris because the trains were finished. T'was a long ride haha

    I know you missed the train that you catch via the shuttle but how much was the bus to Paris? We took the last shuttle when we were there.
