My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.

You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGear...
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.

Thanks for watching!
Ohhhhhh, the lights, the fireworks in the night, that was so beautiful. I felt like I could smell the summer air as it became evening. This will be a MUST when we come! I am so happy you went and had a friend to go with. So glad you are there sharing this with us!!! Thanks so much Jay :)
My pleasure!
That looks spectacular! I say well worth a missed bus 😉
It worked out 😂
You're energy. It's a lot.
Went here at Christmas 2016, it's amazing! And then we caught Donald Sutherland and Gene Wilder film START THE REVOLUTION WITHOUT ME and realized it was shot there!!
That's awesome! It's so worth a visit =D
Looked amazing Jay,well worth the visit and a missed bus!
Twas indeed
Merci bien. I love this video--the palace is quite enchanting and hearing Charles Trenet/ La Mer made me so happy. I think I will play a lot of French music this afternoon!
Sherrie Shatzen - I made this mix for my wife and I when we went last year. If you want to dance around the place to French music.

@@ShawnGBR Merci beaucoup!
Nice video. It must also be noted that the castle is a private property and not a national monument. The De Vogüé family keeps this castle alive all year long and the Christmas decorations are, for example, magnificent.
Ooh, Christmas there would be magical
Just a small unassuming house in the country, nbd. Also the shot in the end with no music just crickets was 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks! 😊
That’s was beautiful !
Thanks!
Wow! I did not know about this Chateau,so glad you’ve told us about it! It’s so beautiful....and no crowds!
The music was great; I love the Dyalla music that sounds like Edith Piaf.😍 Hope you got home ok.🚌
Safe and sound!😊
!!! I love that place. I was a guest of the Count who grew up there a few years ago (Alexandre de Vogüé - he is lovely) who has such passion for the chateau and for keeping it alive. Never got to see the candles though!
Glad he's so proactive in keeping it up!
Fancy schmancy!! I’m so glad you missed the bus to see the chateau lit up and those fireworks! So worth it!! 🌟🌟🌟 It looks a billion times calmer and more enjoyable than Versailles. I wish I’d known about it back in the day. 👍🏼✌🏼
It's a way more chill way to spend a day
Thanks for the great tip. This place is soo much better than Versailles!! No crowds, you almost feel like you have the place to yourself. We went on a Saturday with the fireworks and candles, amazing!!
It's fantastic - gotta enjoy it before the crowds find it =)
Wow! ♥️♥️♥️ The flowers are so beautiful!!! Love it!
It's really nice
Hey Jay, amazing place! 💖 Which one's better, this château or Versailles? The lack of huge crowds is definitely a plus for me.
A huge plus
How absolutely gorgeous!!! What a fabulous “find”...next time!!! See you tomorrow xx Kerrin and Leia xx
Well worth it!😁
Jay, that was great! Love love loved it. THANKS SO MUCH!
My pleasure!
Thanks for the chance to visit V le V again! We went to Paris last November and toured this beautiful chateau and estate. Well worth the effort of getting there. I love Paris and can't wait to return soon. Appreciate all you do to let us live vicariously through you, Jay!
Well done! This is a must for the next visit. Also, Charles Trenet was a nice touch.
😁
Nicholas Fouquet was the owner...per google and the 2nd most expensive wedding in recent times was held there...thank you Wikipedia!!!
He was indeed 😊
This is on my list now! Very nice. Now I’m curious to know how you got back! Lol
Thankfully there was one last overpriced bus 😂
That was the most beautiful video you have ever shot! At one point I felt like you were in the Beauty and the Beast movie! Magical! I am so glad that you missed the bus! So how did y'all get back home? Or did you just move in? If so I am coming to visit! You can put me up right? And will you introduce me to the Beast?
I absolutely agree
These fireworks are better than the ones in my neighborhood in the Bronx, NY. The only exception is that it starts two weeks before July 4th and ends in the first week of August.
Very timely Jay... I'm in the market for a small summer cottage. THANKS!
That was STUNNINGLY shot kiddo!
Haha, this one should be right up your alley then 😉 And thanks!
😌😌😌Great there was a bus! Fantastic castle! 👍😍
😁
I just love your vlogs! We’ll be daytripping to Paris from London July 4th and I’ve learned so much from watching your videos! Thanks for sharing your love of such a beautiful city :-)
My pleasure!
Fantastic as always, Jay! I hope you could start using more French language in your vlog! I’d love to learn new words for when i move to France! :)
Thanks!
Wow, gorgeous chateau!
I love it
So beautiful! I believe it’s the palace where they shot most of Versailles show scenes at !
It's well worth a visit!
Oh my gosh! This place looks awesome. 🎆 I was just thinking that it was SO WORTH MISSING THE BUS!! Then I saw the rest, so win-win! 🎉
It worked out in the end 😁😁
Jay Swanson totally did 😊
It looks amazing. It’s going in my top 5 for my next visit to Paris. Hopefully they do candle nights every year.
I hope they keep it up too!
Makes me think of the Biltmore in Asheville, TN with their Candlelight Christmas except really French, actually old and real candles! Another great Paris suggestion from Jay Swanson!
😊😊😊
Gorgeous. Can't wait to see it! Thanks!
It's well worth it!
That place looked really amazing, loving the garden 🥰
It was phenomenal!
Candles everywhere, how not to miss the bus. It is so beautiful there.
Not a bad spot to get stuck 😂
Absolutely beautiful editing. Loved this.
Thanks!
Great place! Looks like you enjoyed music night!
Always!
This was spectacular!! Thanks for sharing!! I loved this so much! 😊
My pleasure!😊
Hahaha, very amusing. Jay showing after effects of fete de la musique, totally worth it. Loved the grammar check, made it even more better. Awesome sauce! Thanks Jay!!!
Haha, definitely a little, but more the after effects of the last two months 😂
There is something to be said to not follow guides. Time and again I wonder why people fall for it, but I suppose it feels 'safer'. It is not for me, better to be curious and experience it, like a dish where both the ingredients and how it is made comes from tasting. Ah well, to each his own.
I usually don't, but it was more like the audio-guide followed us 😊
@@JaySwanson I know, guidance helps both the public AND what is shown, simply because it flows better through the building itself. Oh and less work for those in charge 😉
I think when Im back in April Ill visit here ...I didnt love Versailles ....too crowded ....as usual great vid :)
Thanks!
Dide, you just get to spend more time with Laura. Well played sir.
👍👍
Loved this trip. Loved the music too. Thank you this was great!
My pleasure!
@@JaySwanson Great music as usual. What is the name of the first song?
That was gorgeous!! Great to know about the audio guide. Thank you Miss Laura for planning this trip!! Mr Jay looks like he had a little too much fun at the music festival!! 😂😂 Have a Great Day!!😁
Unfortunately I didn't get to stay out and have *enough* fun 😂
Superb, one of your best. Thanks so much 🤗.
Thanks!
I love that kind of clip .. back from my short trip to the Baltic Sea....
It's a great way to spend some time 😊
Thank you Jay... for your answer
i was just watching French Gardens on netflix about this place. lovely... :)
It's really nice!
Vaux le Vicomte has been on my list for ages (sigh!) Hopefully I'll get to see it soon. Thanks Jay!
It's well worth the visit!😊
Fantastic Thank you
😁
I'm more convinced now to see this wonderful place first than Versailles. Thank you Jay!
As someone who has been to both, as Jay says, this is a more human sized, better crafted chateau. I'm sure you will have a great time, I would highly recommend this over Versailles except if you are a huge fan of French gardens, then go for Versailles first. Have a lovely time in Paris!
Versailles is all about the grounds for sure. But it's also overwhelming 😂
Versailles is beautiful but you will miss the whole point of visiting Versailles if u dont have a brief idea of the stories in Versailles and brief history about the place before u visit it. Also a lot of people miss out on the Trianon which are more enchanting for me than the main palace
That was lovely! Thank you.
And how are your mom and dad doing?
They're doing well thanks!
Jay, you should allow one of your friends to do your channel for one day ;) the day in the life of a None-CZcamsr ?? What do you think ? Like Laura or another GF there ?then at the end of the day she meets you for dinner and you take your channel back. Probably a crazy idea 💡Maybe your patrons can vote on who ?
Formidable! 🎆🎇
Sometimes things happen for a reason. Very, very Nice ! 💛
We had a blast!
Ooooo I love when you use this sooooong! Also: 😍!
😊😊
Wow! Loved this...much better than Versailles. I have to come back the France now hah!
It was a wonderful place to visit
WOW! just... WOW!
😊🏰
WOW that was just beautiful. ALL. OF. IT.
😊😊😊
THANK YOU for sharing...AWESOME!!!
Beautiful place, looks far more interesting and doable than Versailles. I think it reopened last year after a multi-million euro refurb & it looks like money well spent. I noticed that the station you left Paris from had trains to Provins. Another worthwhile day trip for history fans, the old part is a walled medieval town with ramparts.
Oooh, I need more day trips 😊😊
Beautiful editing! You keep getting better and better. The French television program "Secrets d'histoire" did a show about Nicolas Fouquet, the person who built Vaux-le-Vicomte and was thrown in prison by Louis IV: czcams.com/video/fSuihqEZiCQ/video.html Unfortunately, I cannot find a version with subtitles.
Thanks David I'll check this out.
Ooooh, can’t wait to watch this, thanks!!
Aw, wish there were at least French caption 😔
@@bookswithb2684 There used to be a version on CZcams with French subtitles, but unfortunately it has been removed. "Secrets d'histoire" has a CZcams channel, so the show may reappear someday. The show has been on france.tv, but to see it from the US you have to use a VPN with a server in France, and there are still no subtitles.
David Guy aw man, sucks for me. My reading comprehension is way better than my listening skills. Thanks for the info!
How did you get back to Paris after missing the bus? Over a week ago it wasn't that easy going back to Paris from Versailles since the train I got on did not leave after all and had to go to another station, I followed the crowd 🤣.
Crowds are helpful. There was one last late-buss that went all the way back into Paris because the trains were finished. T'was a long ride haha
Merci for this video- enjoyable except for the music. Vaux Le Vicomte is on the list for my next trip to Paris.🩵💙
So dreamy!!
😊🏰😊
That looks like a great day out! ☘️ ☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
Twas indeed!😁😁
Hello this looks amazing, I wanted to ask to be sure that you brought your own food? And could you bring alcohol?
Looks amazing!! I will definitely add this on our iterinary on our trip to Paris at the end of this month. How did you guys get back from Paris?
Last late bus directly into town, thankfully
Hi! Awesome video! What song is playing at the beginning?
Fabulous Jay! Thanks so much
My pleasure!
I was wondering what would happen if you missed the bus?? I’m glad you missed it, love the fire works. So going there in October to check out the Château!! I did Versailles in December and wanted some more of this type of exploring. Thanks Jay!!!
My pleasure!
Hope we get to hear tomorrow how you got home:)
Just was fortunate enough to catch the very last bus, but unfortunately a bus that went all the way into town instead of to a train
what's the first song used?
I'm trying to find that out as well. Could you message me if you find out. I will do the same.
What's the name of the song you play in the beginning of the video and her name
Could you have Uber’d it back if you had to? If so, how far and how much?
Nope - no Ubers that far out and it would have been *expensive*
Can you give me the names of the two songs of the dyalla, by the way your trip was great
Ignore it!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
?
Watch the first five seconds.....
@@islandgirl8914 oh yes, I forgot! He cracks me up with his intros, always something to look forward to :)
So true...... have a good day!!
😂
I know you missed the train that you catch via the shuttle but how much was the bus to Paris? We took the last shuttle when we were there.
I think it was 19€ but I don't remember
Not a complaint, but how did you make it through that whole video without one bad pun about whether or not "le jeu en vaut la chandelle" ???
😂😂
Who is the music in the beginning by? Love the trip!
Dyalla for both
@@JaySwanson Thanks Sir!
Where are the crowds and the scammers?
I actually had a lady throw down a huge gold ring, I was so surprised that I burst out laughing
Whats the rent?😎
The rule is always the same: if you ask, it means you can't afford it 😂
🏰
I hate that Paris is not the City,of Meeting women anymore. honestly
