I'm just an western guy who knows squat about Muay Thai, so anyone who knows better could explain to me, please, how Yodpanomrung was so sure of his victory going into the fifth? Third was a dominating round for Muangthai!
Yeah, it's a bit unusual for us westerners, but if you watch enough you start to get a feel for it and can tell quite easily most of the time.
intermarer But what should I look for? I was giving Yodpanomrung the advantage going into the last Round but the man simply stopped fighting. I know the guy who's winning is supposed to give the last round up, but I really couldn't see him winning by that far!
A simple way to get you started - see who engages and walks forward the most. He is usually the one who knows he is behind and stresses to get back on top. And disregard round one and two entirely.
João MenegaleBarbi it's not a 10 point must scoring, you can pull ahead in points if you dominate a round, you also have to account how things are scored, strikes that have an oomf score more and it's more subjective tbh
One thing to keep in mind is that in Thailand scoring is weighted giving the last rounds more importance. During the 4th round Yodpanomrung did really well, it seems to me, so that made up for the weak beginning?

Yodpanomrung won round 5. He scored with kicks and knees and Muangthai's elbows and offbalancings weren't enough to steal it.

Sorry i watch a lot of muaythai and this since a long time. But i still don t understand this kind of decision. But well i ll watch it again and again until i understand why the hell is yod winning this....
Not only that, both Yodpanomrung and Muangthai seem to know, going into the last round, that Muangthai could only win via knock out

ber74 read this if you want to know and please take sometime. round 4 he got kick too often near the end and it effect him greatly because he got weaker. muaythai score not just strike landed but who look better, you can land a five of kick but your opponent those not look hurt and then he kick you back one or one combo then you show the sign of hurting then you will lose. being able to take down your opponent and you still standing or lay on the top will score you greatly and most of the time each round have different value, first have the least forth have the most and fifth is viable when four round fighter are evenly match but in this fight you see, near the second half of fourth round mungthai got kick too many time and he lost a lot of strength and got takedown, therefore lose by a land slide in muaythai scorecard. round one to third only be score in championship fight but other fight it more like a build up to fourth, that why muaythai today favor strong fighter rather than skilled but weak because you can kick or punch for three round but if your opponent does not hurt and he hurt you in fourth then you lose, non clincher goal is too dominate three round and defend themselves or look good in fourth then they can win or win by knockout. this fight is championship fight however blue win the first round which doesn't show here and he win fourth which worth more, but the true effect of the game is gamble, the odd is always changing in the end of fourth or fifth if it in your favor then you can win and the judge have to go with this odd because main source of income come from gamblers. normal wanna see fight like us in Thailand not really go to the stadium anymore because most thai today are like you, not understand how they score, win three round in five but still lost they see it as bullshit so they don't go watch and only gambler go so the stadium have to go with gambler odd for their survival. but it's still fun when you watch big camp fighting each other because they have Gambler of their own who make the different in odd then the fight become competitive because the odd not really favor one side. however the more expansive the ticket is the more competitive because it mean that the big camp join that event and top fighter you know today are in big camp. like this fight both camp are consider biggest so the odd is quite fair. hope this help.
