  • Maya Emelle, the visionary behind Flavors of Origin, has embarked on an incredible journey from the world of film production to becoming a dedicated advocate in the fight against food insecurity within underserved communities.
With a passion for storytelling and a deep-rooted commitment to social change, Maya recognized the power of food as a vehicle for transformation.
Driven by her belief in the fundamental right to nutritious food for all, Maya channeled her creative energy and expertise into creating Flavors of Origin.
As the event's founder and executive producer, Maya's vision is to not only to satisfy taste buds but also to nourish minds and souls, empowering underserved youth in Los Angeles through food literacy education.
Maya's transition from film producer to food justice advocate reflects her unwavering dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Through Flavors of Origin, Maya invites the community to join her in celebrating diverse cultures, promoting healthy eating habits, and fostering unity-a testament to her commitment to creating a brighter, more equitable future for all. The festival advocates for a food literacy after-school program to be brought to the 2nd District of Los Angeles, where many underserved youth live in food deserts.
One of the hallmarks of Flavors of Origin is its commitment to accessibility. Open to all ages and free of charge, the festival ensures that everyone in the community can partake in its offerings.
By bringing families together to explore new foods, beverages, and recipes in live cooking demonstrations with some of LA's premiere talented chefs, Flavors of Origin aims to cultivate a healthy relationship with food while raising awareness of nutritious vendors and holistic products.
2024, was a collaborative partnership with the Mar Vista Farmer's Market where local farmers and small businesses were on hand to share insights and tips for making micro-behavioral changes that lead to better health outcomes.
