    One of the things that struck me and dislikes me is that the potentiometer knobs wiggle at the moment you touched them. Clearly seen at 3:05 and 11:06.
    This means cheap quality potmeters. When knobs are wiggle, mean they will wear out faster. High quality potential meters are tight and don't wiggle.

    • @JoeStopkaMusic
      @JoeStopkaMusic Před 4 lety +3

      Not completely true - what it means is that that the pots are not nutted down on the top panel. The quality of the potentiometers used are very good audio pots. It was a matter of controlling cost to not use top and bottom mounted nuts

    • @jerrykooyman
      @jerrykooyman Před 4 lety +5

      @@JoeStopkaMusic In that case it's still not the best. When pots are not mounted on the top panel and can wiggle, they can worn out faster. Besides that, the pots are soldered on the print and when they are not mounted on the top panel.. you will balast the print and solder point more. I have enough experience with these problems. You have to handle extra more careful with these kind of constructions!

      Hello Phinestro Robert! The Model 12 acts as a DAW Controller and can be used as such while the Model 24 is connected to your computer as a USB audio interface.
      Yes - you can connect outboard gear to the Model 24. Some of the inputs have an insert on them, or you can route it into any open channel. Send from the sub output or any of the auxes and then route the signal back into your system!
      Other interfaces can also be used for expansion, not directly into the Model 24, but it's possible. If you're using a Mac, you can set up an aggregate audio device in the AUDIO/MIDI set up in the "Other" folder in the Launchpad. This can't be done natively on a Windows machine, but third party software can be installed that will allow you to do the same thing.

    • @TASCAMUSA
      @TASCAMUSA  Před 2 lety +2

      Hello Ira! Glad to hear you like your DP-24SD! While there are some similarities between the two units, they're still completely different beasts. As you know, the DP-24SD is meant to act as a standalone recording device - basically a complete studio setup conveniently packaged into one great piece of gear on your desktop.
      The Model 24 has three functions: a standalone multitrack recorder, a complete mixer, and a USB Audio interface. Because it's primary function is threefold, the DP-24SD has a few more features for producing a track start to finish (i.e. the mastering section).
      The Model 24 has incredibly clean and transparent preamps, easy-to-use one knob compression, precision EQ's, and more - all in a classic channel strip so many audiophiles are familiar with. The built-in effects processor enhances signal by being able to blend in effects with an aux control. While it's standalone MTR, the premise of being an audio interface and a live/rehearsal mixer adds an extra dimension to the Model 24.

      @@TASCAMUSA Thanks for the info. I am 62 years old now and grew up with analog in the 70s. The DP-24SD is a digital recorder if I recall correctly. I mainly use Shure SM 57 mics for my guitar recording (using either my Marshall JCM900 or Fender guitar amps(yes, I use real guitar amps and real drums) and other Shure mics for acoustic guitar and I actually use the Sennheiser e902 bass microphone for the bass drum) . Like I said, I'm kinda still stuck in the 70s mod of recording and recorded in some great studios when I was younger that only had analog back then. Digital is not really my thing nor is Protools or using my computer to add tone or effects and as far as interface....no idea what that even is. LOL. I am more into really playing my guitars, basses, percussion (congas, tambourine, shakers...) and the only effect I might use during the mix is tone(bass, treble, mids and reverb here and there.....). I like a more natural sounding recording and not so much enhanced. What's wrong with sounding like yourself?? I have made some great recordings just using the Tascam DP-24SD. But was considering trying the Model 24 recorder. Does the Model 24 still use SD cards and can I still do all the mixing to the SD card just like the DP-24SD? I really only use my computer for making CD copies. I plug the SD card into my computer when I finish mixing and mastering my songs and then can make CD copies easily within minutes. Are CDs obsolete at this point? LOL I am such a dinosaur! LOL
      :)

    • @TASCAMUSA

      The effect on the Model 24 is it's own channel so there isn't a way to send the effect and the individual channel to the DAW. You could record the Main output by creating a track within your DAW and have that track listening to input 23/24 ( which the main mix) but that will capture any channels sent to the Main, including the effect.

I mean how many times have they been told that we want to be able to 'print' the eq etc to daw on each channel as it's being sent via usb ? How many times ?? HOW MANY TIMES ??? They don't listen and they don't care and they keep putting out the same inadequate thing over and over with the same mistakes and lack of development. How many times have we told them we need a monitor out so we can actually see the screen properly ? HOW MANY TIMES ??? They don't listen. SMPTE via bnc for compatibility with the rest of the world should be obvious ! You can ask, but they won't listen.

Should I be running the Yamaha EAD somewhere other than the stereo channel, as the Yamaha is a stereo mic/trigger device? Hello! A patchbay could be useful in a lot of different situations, however, it isn't a necessity. For example, if you're planning on using a lot of outboard gear (i.e. compressors, preamps, external effects) then yes - a patchbay would make it very easy to connect all that gear to different channels on the fly. But, if you're not planning on going that particular route, then you can connect your mic cables directly to the unit itself.

    Here is another good setup scenario- if you have some outboard gear- in my case I do- hardware reverbs and other processing. Use fx out-Jack -mono send-disable internal effects- fx out Jack goes to your headphones distribution amp- I use a beringhear-and use a hardware reverb for it for talent-then I use Mon-1 and 2- sends to feed a stereo hardware effect chain in my case I run in series to a compressor-a saturation and widening unit and then into an aphex model 204-and return the stereo feed to channel 19/20-set to live input for a parallel type mix.
    For my hardware reverb send I use the ‘sub-out’ on a per channel need-engage it on any track you want hardware reverb-it sends to the stereo sub out fader and jacks-I use the Bluetooth channel as the reverb return. Any Mix of verb to dry can be done on the reverb unit itself. In my case I have 3 hardware reverbs- I run the stereo out to (2) passive splitters 2 in 4 out by galaxy audio-39 bucks each-then feed each hardware reverbs inputs separately-at the split- the re combine them to stereo for the return to Tascam using a Radial KeyLargo keyboard mixer-this way you have control of each reverbs volume- to create a dense exciting multiple reverb stereo return or turn any of them out of the mix. To taste,
    It only eats up 2 stereo returns leaving 18 open tracks 12 mono-3 stereo-which in a traditional situation w/ perhaps some ‘bouncing of tracks’ should be plenty. Hell most hit records pre 1980 were 16 to 24 tracks period-and 8 track in the early 70’s and backwards.
    Any outboard gear can be used-it’s the -routing- I have that makes the Tascam Model 24 in my case very usable and flexible as a standalone mix-record setup- In my case I have an RME BabyFace Pro FS-interface and an iPad Pro-I run my Mains Outs to the BabyFace as my two track master mix recorder so I do all final mastering inside an pad daw-I use Auria Pro with some plugins for sweetening as needed-if needed-and then export via audio share app to Postive Grids Final Touch App. Then save that mix in my desired format via that app.

    I'm trying to run a headphone mix through MON1 and it only comes out of the left channel. I am using a stereo cable. What am I doing wrong?

      The Mon 1 output is a mono output, you may want to connect that out to a headphone distribution amp which would be able to take a mono signal and send it to both sides of the headphones

      @@TASCAMUSA I am using a headphone amp. I also used a mono cable, and it still came out only the left side. Are both MON1 & 2 outputs designed to be used TOGETHER or something?

      @@saftovooey4569 I would suggest contacting the maker of the headphone distribution amp to ask how to use a mono signal on their device.

    Can you use the blue tooth capability for interviews for a podcast? So the caller can hear in studio guest and vice versa? I am looking for a good live stream podcast mixer that allows for a phone connection for call in interviews.

      Hello! You should look into the TASCAM Mixcast 4 - it's been created with podcasters in mind and does everything you've just described.

      Hello! Yes, if you are using the Model 24 as a USB audio interface, the waveforms will appear in your DAW. The Model 24 does not offer the option to see waveforms on the built-in screen.

      More inputs, mic pres, compressors on the Model 24. Faders are smaller on the Model 16 but it's rack mountable where as the Model 24 is not. Very similar Models. Comes down to size and how many inputs you would like!
