- Czech rocker Jürgen Kawan passed away on November 12, 2015 at the age of 74. R.I.P.
Jürgen's (vocal/guitar) cover of this Screamin' Jay Hawkins song is totally in the spirit of the original:

Met him as a kid. He came over to my house to teach me about rock 'n roll, but when I told him I had no guitar, he said it didn't matter because it was more important to learn how to sing. I told him that's what I was thinking too, so then he shared how he did it without an audience, building the rhythms and attitude, kind of like baking different cookies and cakes. Really! That was 4yrs ago.
Perhaps I should add an anecdote. McLaughlin came over to my house after music school, and said he was here to teach me guitar, and I told him I didn't have a guitar, but I was willing to take some lessons if he had his guitar with him, but he didn't, so that was that, and he left somewhat perturbed, ...story goes on a little further when I was at his house for a day or so. ( We lived about 2000 miles apart.)
And then there was George Harrison, who actually lived on the next street for a while to loose his accent. So one day, a guy comes over and tells me there is a guy over in the next alley that really wants me to go over to see him so he can teach me guitar. I tell him I don't have a guitar, but I'll go over and talk to him. So I go over, and we talk, and I ask him, "who are you, and why do you want to teach me guitar", and he says, "don't you know who I am", and said no, ...and then he says "I'm Leonard Pecker, and if you want I can teach you guitar, on my guitar". Now I'm thinking, this is the 3rd guy this month, and so I tell him, sorry but it's too late for me to learn guitar, as the time to start is when your 4 or 5, and not when you're 12 or 14, so that ended that, but what he really wanted is someone to pronounce american english to him, and the lessons were just engagement.
Satriani came over twice, once as a kid with 2 other guys, who really really wanted to practice in my dad's garage, ...so I told them there was no room, but they said it was good enough, so I let them. Years later, 2 of them came by around Xmas time. So, he's sitting on my couch, in a house I just moved into, and he asks me if I know who he is, and I say, "not really". He finally tells me his name, and says I'll figure it out.
Just as a note some mathematicians also came by the older house, a guy called Solomon Lefschetz who had lost both his hands, but insisted he could teach me math, and a guy called William Hodges who basically demanded I read his books.

my neighbour here in France , till january 2000 , was screaming jay hawkins ( when he, passed in to gods rocknroll hall of music ,) I bet they are both making some great music together , now !

More of Mr Kawan please . I'm 69 this year - maybe I need to start up a Rock band as a tribute to this great man . I think that , instead of accolades being thrown at me , I may instead get Tomatoes . Thanks
