I like watching old vids from when items I own came out. To see the looks people did and them basically telling you again how great it is 😅😂to me it's motivating to use it again, it also reminds me how there's no point jumping from great item to great item who are all similar in the end if you don't use it. Also fun is putting together full looks of items like a cool toned mauve or warm peach look. This also really helps using up items

Oh that’s such a good idea! You were excited about the products you own when you purchased them, so why not still be excited about them?

Something I love about my no/low buy life is curating a full face of products that work together. They might be items that I wouldn’t usually use or use together but sometimes you hit that sweet spot and it’s makeup heaven. Since I’ve done this it’s made my low/no buy easy. I have everything I need and now I truly enjoy using it all up.

As someone who has a extremely large collection, you gave great tips, my mind needs other stimulation outside of makeup or i find myself spending hours in my beauty room just endlessly trying to make sense of my collection. The guilt and regret is real. Thank you

I’m sorry to hear about that 😓 I still have guilt about all the products I amassed but you’ve recognized that it’s a problem and you’re working on it! At this point that’s all you can do

I feel like sometimes the makeup community can feel a bit too trend focused. There’s for example that "new" tool or product everyone uses and if you don’t at some point you feel a bit left behind. The other day I was like "I think I need a powder puff." (that triangular one) but then I was like, I don’t powder that much I only powder my T-zone and I like the result with my brush, sometimes I don’t even feel like using any powder at all. So yeah, hard agree on seeking out other interests as well and not obsess too too much over one thing. That’s something I personally want to to more of this year, just try out new things that could turn into a new additional hobby.

I loved this video and your perspective on making no buys fun. I agree with you that finding place for a little fun can help with the longevity. Makeup swaps are actually so much fun and I've never swapped makeup before meeting you, so thanks! I also love your rec to find other hobbies. Consumer based communities can suck up as much time as you give it

I have an inventory spreadsheet detailing colors, finishes, formulas etc. Sometimes I just explore my spreadsheet, sit around and swatch makeup, assemble new blush/lip combos, watch old reviews, favorites, collection, ranking videos. Usage goals, rotating products. I realized that I have HGs that I LOVE in many categories. If I am considering buying a new product, I have to think about whether I'd be OK with my HGs languishing toward expiry while I try out the new stuff.

Some really great tips here. Thanks. 🙂 My no-buy is (finally) going really well, after attempting no-buys and low buys on and off for the last 7 years. I'm really happy with how I'm doing. Technically I haven't bought anything new since November last year, but my partner usually likes getting me something for my birthday, but makes me buy it myself, so after a month of deliberation, and him nagging me about what I'd bought myself, I finally bit the bullet and decided to repurchase some Inglot Duraline because my current one is 8 years old, and it's supposed to have been tossed after 9 months 😅 and also finally decided I'd buy their gel pot liners to try because shipping costs. They've been on my wishlist for about 9 years. 2 of my pot eyeliners in the same shades from Colourpop have both gone bad I found, so I had to bin them, so technically all 3 purchases are replacements and a gift from my partner. I'm determined to keep this no-buy up until November 2024, and I'm honestly considering just extending it until I finish uni, which in theory should be the end of 2026. The only thing I can see myself needing to purchase over the next 2.5 years might be eye primer, maybe mascara, and potentially some skin tint, though that'll be right at the end I think. I use so little foundation when I do wear it.
I think being back at uni and having other things to focus on has been a really big help, such as studying, reading, and working, and we're trying to save money for a house too, so financial goals are a big part of this. I've also been a lot more money-focused, and really trying to figure out where I'm actually spending so I can up the savings goals, especially knowing I have a lot of placement for uni coming up over the next couple of years where I won't be able to work.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Great video.

I really enjoy watching your videos on Saturdays . In Portugal where I'm from they come up at 16:00 and I always watch them right away .
Have currently been trying to use up my lip oils and lip glosses . I have a very minimal makeup collection but I noticed I was buying more lipglosses . I had 5 used up one this week and have two others that are super close to done ! I want to get a new one but I'm only going to get it after I finish these 2 and get more progress on the others as well ☺️

What I currently find extremely motivating to stop buying is the constant price increases and reformulations... How bad it is depends on the brands you buy but it's happening everywhere. But generally I'm seeing 20 to 30% increases. If you add shorter shelf life to that and maybe less product...
Plenty brands have gone for cheaper ingredients and shorter shelf life while also raising prices and even giving you less. Often quality suffers. There's fancy ways to green wash this nonsense but if you know it's about cold hard cash and a disregard of giving your customer value for money. The shopping victims will still buy they know because it's about the kick and feeling a certain way. I'm just very much unwilling to support this any longer 🤷plenty of my old products are of higher quality than anything coming out now

I really appreciate this video, it open my eyes to a lot of things. I started a no buy this year and I failed miserably. I’m trying to get back at it, and this video just gave me the push I need. I don’t want to wait for next year when I can just get up and ride that horse again. As kids we fell out of our bikes and we get up right away and try again. So, I’m trying it again with a new prospective. I really hope you continue doing this types of videos. Thank you 🙏 ❤❤❤

Loved this video! ❤ I actually think makeup is more fun when I am on a no buy/low buy. I get overwhelmed when I have too much products. And yeah I totally agree about other hobbies! When I got kids it really hit me that I don't want to spend that much time on makeup. I still enjoy it, but when I have time for myself I have other things I want to prioritize.

As a reader who went from ya to romance books I have a feeling you are a person who doesn't like romance books and thus maybe finds it yaish. I know Fourth Wing is classed as romance and fantasy and the writer is more known for writing romance books. I havent read this book you are reading now but how you phrase it it has a mayor romance plot. Nothing wrong with it. I normally stear away from thrillers as it is not my cup of tea after trying it a lot of times. Sometimes it works but it takes me a long time to get in the story normally which I don't like

    • @laralikesmascara
      @laralikesmascara  Před 4 měsíci

I actually do really like romance in books, but I'm SUPER picky about it. I feel cringe-y with a lot of romance - it doesn't even need to be a main point of the book. With The Unquiet Dead, there actually wasn't very much romance, just hints of it, but I hated the way the author wrote about characters being interested in each other. So I just need to find stuff that works for me.
