wow 7:10 Nene enjoying being right by Annie. There's a rare sight. She doesn't dislike her. But she easily could be sitting further away or on the other side, and she scoots lil closer to annie at times.

I don't think Annie was just smelling...it looked as if Kiyo asked her to groom him in that area.
Notice how this troop prefers to sit and eat on the concrete as oppose to the grass?
When it rains do you think they prefer to stay in a bug infested forest or run inside a room?
Goes to show that we don't really know what gorillas would like.
If Gorilla needs a home, they would build 1

Poor Nene is slowing down, this past year has been very noticeable, she is always lagging behind. She does funny lip movements like some elderly do, but then again Ai makes faces too and she is young. I hope Nene is around for a lot longer, she is pretty old now ,so I fear she won't be for too much longer.
I think Nene might have a facial tic, looks like Ai inherited it from her mum... When I first started watching this troop I thought Nene had allergies..
I thought Shabani was bipolar.🤣
Nene is 49 years old, which is incredible! It would be great if she were around for a while still.

Gorillas have a gland there that tells other gorillas if they are sick or healthy. So it's a natural thing. All gorillas will 'dab' that area and sniff it when they initially meet a gorilla, or to check on their babies or siblings health, etc, again to see if they are healthy to be around.... also if they are in heat, but 99% of this kinda interaction is simply about health. In this case they are goofing around.
at 0:50 I think Shabani is wondering if something is wrong with Kiyo. Nene too. As they both are looking at him wondering why he wants Annie to look at his butt so bad. Usually if a gorilla is in another gorillas face with a body part, it's because they are asking that gorilla to check it for them. Whether its for their butt, or their arm, or their back. Often somewhere they can't see or get to. Seems he may be asking Annie to look at the right side of his butt (yes I know this sounds funny but still). Partly goofing around, but may actually be asking to groom him as he may have been bitten or feels pain there or something. Notice he is covering the 'middle' and annie is looking at the right side, not the middle.
Then Nene comes over thinking she can look to see what is wrong with Kiyo.
We should be so lucky. Ever wonder why humans are mostly wired to be ashamed or shy about something that we all have?
