Yep, this was pretty detailed, but hey: It's the German language, everyone! :D
Hope you enjoy this video, took some time to edit this one. Thanks for watching! :3
Danke schön! Ich liebe das - Ich Lerne Deutsch und Ich LIEBE Rammstein. Ich spreche nur ein bisschen Deutsch. es tut mir leid für mich schlecht Deutsch. Danke, es erklärt so viel.
Me too. But I'm not good at it
English teacher and huge Rammstein fan here.
This is the best. I always tell my students to study something that actually interests them when learning English.
Learning German? Love Rammstein? YASSSSS!!!
Till is such a fascinating personality, he has such a powerful, booming and supersonic voice
It's funny, because in English we have an equivalent of the German "stein-" compound adjectives that uses a bastardized version of the German adj. "über". For example, we might say "uber ancient" for "steinalt", or "uber rich" for "steinreich". lol
Basically you're screwed if you learn to speak how German from Rammstein lyrics
..so true. lol, but Rammstein did inspire me to learn real German, so there's that.
How?
Well now I want to do exactly that
Really, really enjoyed this video! I studied German for about 2 months during the initial stages of COVID lockdown in the states March to beginning of May. My then fiancée and I were planning to honeymoon in Europe, including a week in Germany. I was committed to speaking as much (poor) German as I could, but the excitement was squashed when travel restrictions were announced and we had to cancel. I’ve been a huge Rammstein fan for the last 6 years, so your videos are the perfect combination.
All that’s to say, I love your vids! Keep it up 👍🏻
Well, I'll need to watch that again!
Thanks, Dave. Glad to see you looking well!
Thank you so much! This video makes studying English easier and more fun using such a brilliant performer and your finest explanation!
Love when you do these learning videos!! It makes it easier for me as a non native speaker to learn pronunciation of certain words!! My 3 favorite things all in one video; Till, Dave, and the German language
I just stumbled upon this video and it gave me the motivation to continue learning German. Thank you for this awesome video! ♥️
Whoa! Very detailed and highly informative, as usual, thanks a LOT!
Danke, Dave! Wie immer sehr gut erklärt :)
Really interesting and helpful! Thanks so much for this video :D
Delighted by this video
Danke Dave ♡
Great video! Thank you! I’m trying to learn German on my own first so this was very informative😊.
I love this guy! The whole reason I wanted to learn to speak German.
Awesome video! Vielen Dank! ❤️
Thank you so much for your effort man!
These videos you make are a great combination of something helpful and enjoyable at the same time. ✌🏼😎
Thank you! :)
It really helps a lot, thanks!
Hallo! Very interesting video. A little hard to follow sometimes but fascinating insights! Greetings from France 😊
Danke schön. I have some German heritage and I'm trying to learn/ improve my Hochdeutsch, but it's a bit hard to learn about how Germans actually speak since I don't live in Germany, so this kind of video is quite helpful.
From Italy! Fell in love with whole Lindemann's sogs, but couldn't undersand lyrics, so i started german class, so helpfoul! Danke schön
yep, got a new subscriber. This is insanely detailed. A little over my head, but I will rise to it. Thanks for doing what you do, from US.
Thank you and welcome! :)
This is educational! Nice! A fun way to learn! Danke!🇩🇪🎭🌹👌❤️😎❗
Good video. Sehr gut! 😊
I just started learning German on December 31st using an app called duolingo and it’s fun but I wish I had someone to practice on. At this point I realize how valuable your video is to someone more advanced in their learning. Love the band and you’re cute. Thank you for this💕
Good luck with it. As he said there is a big difference in spoken and written language. If I decide to learn a language, I would first only start with spoken language. I did the same for danish and it works so nice. Pimsleur was the key
Thanks for this Dave, this was interesting and really informative 😊 languages are difficult to pick up just by reading/books as a language is spoken differently to how it looks on paper- it makes it more of a challenge. Not to mention dialects too.. certainly over here in the UK there is a different dialect and accent for about every county 😅
~Abbie
England. The only place where the English can barely speak English. No offense meant if taken. I find some English accents impossible to understand.
I speak German fluently and there was nothing new for me. BUT 1) its Till Lindemann 2) the video and the explanation are done great so 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 its a like from me and thank you for your job
Thank you! 🤘
You are awesome!
I like this style it's very useful
Amazing. Thank You So Much From Los Angeles California. 😎🎥⭐️🍔🌮
I learned a lot from this video. I'm an American who lived in Berlin from the end of 1999 until the Spring of 2004 (in Prenzlauerberg, just around the corner from where most of Rammstein used to [and some still] live). Before I lived there, I learned German from translating Rammstein lyrics word by word. I built up a good (but weird) stable of nouns, figured out some syntax, and discovered the, frankly, >weird< existence of separable verbs. Anyway, I somehow never picked up on the "halt" phenomenon while I lived there, but perhaps it's a generational thing? While I was there, it was more "und so", which I equate to the American "Like" (I hate both of these things!). In any case, it was very cool to hear the Berlinerisch stuff acknowledged and explained ("Was iss'n dit?" usw). Thank you for all of the work you do for us Denglish speakers :-)
Wish I would started about a decades ago trying to learn Deutsch. But I still trying, I have trouble with memory. danke für das tolle video freue mich auf die nächste folge. Maybe I can get it before I die but it highly unlikely .❗👍🎩🎩🎩🇺🇸
cool video dude
Ah Dave, You explain things so well! I have been learning Deutsch for a few months and never encountered the contractions. I figured there would be some, just like English has. I am now afraid I will never be able to speak it! Lol.
I love your videos though! They are so informative and I love hearing you explain things! And I love Till too, so make as many videos of him as you want! Also, I noticed when I try to speak Deutsch, that I too say "dat" as well. And I love how you say "something", as "somethin". Almost like a southern american accent. Lol.
Lots of love from Florida!
"I have been learning... and never encountered ... contractions"
Might there be a connection? :-D
@@NicolaiCzempin I don't understand?
This was very good!! Many thanks. I don't mean to insult...but I enjoy your use of words I have not thought about since school days English....first person singular, etc. Keep up these videos please. Vielen Dank John W. : )
Not an insult at all, don't worry! It's just grammar terms at the end of the day 😁
Als jemand der Deutsch lernen, vielen Dank.
I've found most Germans to be really patient and kind when trying to help others learn their language. Also, most Germans can speak English well, so it's a pleasure to at least try with them
I'm curious as to what you, being a language teacher, would consider an appropriate prerequisite CEFR level (or other metric of language proficiency) of this particular content?
I feel like all these colloquialisms require a high command of German (and on the other hand, they are very common, so should you learn them early on?).
I studied German for 6 years in school. The grammar is what killed me, it’s so difficult. Such a beautiful language though and I really love when I get to speak it (I’ve lost most of it now unfortunately) Great video Dave, vielen dank 😊
Спасибо, что имею возможность увидеть своего кумира!!! Только сейчас группа Рамштайн начала мне безумно нравится!!!Линдеманн красавчик!!! 😍
Sehr gutes Video. Das zeige ich meinem italienischen Arbeitskollegen, der über Rammstein Deutsch lernen will
this was great for someone looking to improve their german, who's learning high german, it really helped give me another perspective on the language!
Would love to see videos about 'Wiener Blut' and 'Links 2 3 4'. :)
Rammstein = inspiration
This video gave me "goose-hide", so thanks for that. 🙈
Till gives me gänsehaut in a lot of ways. hes handsome, his singing and speaking voice is so sexy. i love the german language and accents. he is awesome in every way
I had German in school as a child, and recently started attending German lessons.
It's Coming along pretty well, but I always get slightly terrified when thinking of actually speaking German with a native speaker. I can't keep up with the tempo, and the "slang" and colloquism confuse me.
This video is so informative and interesting, and it really helps to see/hear the differences between spoken and written sentences.
Please help can you do a video on Lindemann’s translated books. I am hesitant to purchase the poetry books that are translated into English ( the only language I know). I know that translating from German rhymes into English does not keep the rhyme. Yet I see a page on Amazon showing the rhyming in English. So the translation of the poetry must be way off? How authentic to the German version would these be?
.
it depends on the translator
.
I've got textbooks on learning written German, but at my age, and being American, its super hard for me to do. I want to learn to speak the tongue of my ancestors so bad, but can't stand the thought of butchering the language 😥
Because I know I suck at speaking it.
You may have already come across the channel "Easy German". From what I could gather, many people seem to find it helpful, when getting into German language. However, learning a language without actually having an opportunity to really have conversations is a hard thing to do. Viel Glück!
Just remember that each region within Germany speaks differently. For example someone from Bavarian region will speak differently to someone from east Germany. Most German born natives will use a lot of dialect.
"So'n" (so ein) in German is basically the same as "zo'n" (zo een) in Dutch. I suppose every language has these short-cuts.
This is so technical, probably a lot of unnecessary detail for someone just looking to chat in German, I don't think we heard enough of Till actually speaking
I see your point, but that's not the focal aspect of this video. I mean, the video title also reveals quite clearly what this is all about. Thanks for watching though!
@@Daveinitely No problem - I still enjoyed it!
In Swedish you can say: "stenrik" and "stengammal"
Had no idea that German uses "stone" as an increasing prefix, the same way as we do in Swedish actually.
As a Dutch guy, i can understand 80% of German when i listen to German TV or politicians talking etc. But when my German friends talk i understand almost nothing :) Just like in this interview. It's too mumbled. We have mandatory lessons in basic German in school, but i think most Dutch people can understand a lot of German because of the similarities to Dutch.
"Kriegst Du" / spoken: "krichste" is spoken "kriste" in the Lower Rhine and Cologne area. "Du kriegst" wird "Du kriss" ausgesprochen. Also weder "g", "ch" oder "k". Der Laut verschwindet komplett.
It almost sounds like slang
It's like English, there are so many variations.
English has its orgins in German
Amphitheateater = αμφι= two + θέατρο = theatre who comes from θεώμαι = Ι see something from above (with a view). The word Θεός = God actually comes from ancient Grerk "θεώμαι" actually meaning the one who sees from above
Your explanations are pretty much perfect and your videos spot on, but for some reason listening to Rammstein gives me similarly (though not as) bad vibes as having to listen to Böhse Onkelz. It's weird.
Da wird einem mal wieder bewusst wie schwer unsere Sprache für Leute aus anderen Ländern klingen muss 😅
You look very handsome
it's weird how, he's literally breaking down what Till is saying... but i have no idea what Till is actually talking about, lol.
So is he german or not?
Yep.
Look up a German man in the dictionary and you will see his picture. Baby oh baby. 💋
Hallo meine mutter‘s Familie wohnen in Baden-Württemberg und meine vater‘s Familie ist bayerische
Thinking about learning some german but you guys sure like to complicate things 😂
Well, this guy should only focus more in singing the way he does and don’t mind about what the people thinks about his grammar!!!
?
This is a channel about the German language and culture, and I explain aspects of both with the help of examples like this. What is your point / problem here?
Wieso gucke ich mir das als deutsche an xd
Weil du guten Geschmack hast 😎
I like his songs in German. His English songs not so much. His english songs sounds like something a 13 year old would write.
I’m getting what you’re trying to say is his version of speaking is like what us Aussies call slang
