- If you're starting larp it might seem like there is no limit to the amount of costume and equipment you might buy. To try and cut through this we asked two very well known larp traders in the UK what they would recommend to anyone just starting out. Their answers were both different but also both eminently sensible

Okay, so I'm new. In the usa. It is waay too hot to have that gear. Everybody who didn't dress in faery or elven costumes suffered from the tremendous heat. There were two or three who wore full body costumes - I don't even know how they survived - maybe they didn't. They could be dead now. I have no idea what three things a new person ought to start with, but from what I observed, I'm guessing: a belt, a tankard that can be hung from that belt, and a hat.
I'd say that a tee-shirt that is printed to look pirate or medieval ought to be good for a someone new to this, but that'd be item number four and isn't authentic medieval kit.
That sounds good to me and I agree with on dressing for the weather - it a must
Cloaks and belts are actually kinda useful irl, especially if you travel a lot. Hanging things on a belt is sometimes more convenient than putting them in a bag. A cape can be used as bedding on trains, which will save you money if you have to pay extra for bedding. Said items don't necessarily have to be medieval-style though.

i count myself fortunate to have been able to go to having a larp and gems trading as a customer many years and can tell you that all my interactions all they ever do is give their best to give u the best experience with kit and i am very grateful to them for some awesome kit over they years. Belts totally worth spending good money so you can have plenty of pouches. Cloaks are very handy full stop. i now wear a full length robe thats open at the front with a fur mantle it lets water run off and keeps one dry. I take a dagger even though i use a bow and polearm mostly. Deffo good trousers and an overtunic. hood as well to keep warmer.
please dont rush to buy tonnes of kit in one go build it up with your character you will do better. It does look cooler and trust me i look at where i came from starting with a jumper tabbard trackies and ammo boots up to now where i have the cool incredible kits due to people like having a larp and Gems trading, Irregular Props, ,Chows emporium, Eldritch, darkblade, LARP INN and many many more.
Most important advice i can give for people coming into larp other than have fun, treat traders with respect and be decent human beings. Trust me you will need traders far more than you know.

i had forgot one thing if you going archery spend a lot of time practicing and getting to know ur bow. it will become apparent why on the field
