First time viewing your video. I know your wife had to love such a thoughtful and meaningful gift. It is absolutely beautiful and you have given me an idea for a gift.
thanks for sharing the verse!!! very sweet gift to your wife !! happy 5th Anniversary!
Thank you for sharing this. I just wanted to share an idea. My neighbors gave me their leftover pieces of bamboo flooring strips. Since the surface is finished, I didn't have to apply varnish. I ripped the "tongue and groove" edges off with the table saw, then routed all edges with a small curve. I apply tung oil to the raw surfaces, and that brought the natural wood color out. Then it was just a matter of selecting various scripture verses, and adjusting the size(s) to the size of the board. It was such a fun project! (Now I am looking for people who have redone their floors....haha)
Thank you. I have some flooring left over and was wondering if it would work.
Great! Off I go.
Just now watching this, thank you so much for a very clear and informative video! I hope your wife loved it ❤️ came out beautiful!
Really nice! We had this verse as part of our wedding ceremony, also, so thank you for sharing.
Best tutorial I've seen. Thanks for sharing how to do this.
Lots of great questions & no response nice vid thou
Going to attempt my first wood project, Thank you for the tutorial!
Beautifully done! Thanks for sharing!
I like the final product. It turned out well. My only criticism is that one can still see the marks from the planer blades when it was brought to the thickness. Sometimes they are hard to get out and you just have to live with them. It will depend on the project. I’ve used those boards as well.
This turned out really nice. As a long time DIY woodworker, I have experienced that over time, if you do not finish all sides and edges of your project, even if it will remain indoors, fluctuations in temperature, and humidity levels, can cause the wood to cup, warp, or even crack. Finish coating all surfaces will also prevent the finish from peeling as well. You obviously don't have to stain the unseen areas of your project, like the backside of this sign, but I would very strongly recommend you apply the same amount of finish coats (polyurethane) to the backside along with all the other surfaces. It's a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to help preserve your project, and make it last a much longer time.
Very Very Nice Troy... always enjoy your videos
I am doing a wood sign for outdoor. Do I still need to apply polyurethane so the text vinly won't left?
Beautiful. Sh will love it! Thanks so much for the tutorial!!
Thank you, getting ready to try my first project and this was very helpful. :)

Really nice! Thanks for the tutorial.
you just saved me from creating a big headache
Loved it!

great idea
Lovely. Thank you for sharing.
this is beAUITFUL
Your video is great! Thank you so much!!!
KEEP THESE COMING! :)
Love it!
What if I am working with old barn wood or pallets --- do I just sand it and then do the rest according to the video?
I am wanting to do something like this to a cornhole game to decorate it. My question is...I figured I would need to put a polyurethane over the vinyl so that when the cornhole bags were tossed onto the surface and slide on the board that the vinyl doesn’t end up peeling. What are your thoughts on this?
This was very helpful and informative. I often use waterbased polycrylic after my stain has well dried. However, my stain is oil based. Is there a long term effect on this mix of water/oil based products that I should be worried about? Thank you
Thanks for the great tutorial. Is your contact paper Permanent or Temporary (on the label)?
Thanks for the info
hi I find ur videos so helpful an not rushed, I have a cricut mini I'm learning on, if u have any tips on witch vinyl etc to use on mdf or wooderen plaques that would be great x
Thanks Troy, always enjoy your videos. Question, what did you cut the wood with. Thinking of purchasing a small wood cutting machine.
Just a basic chop saw
Really enjoyed the video and it all was very helpful! I’m trying to figure out how to get my vinyl on my board- not exactly sure what the coats are that are on the wood, but my transfer tape peels up the finish and and leaves a really bad look to the board- could you help?! Thanks -Chelsea
what kind of transfer tape did you use? can you post a link for it?
troy i was wondering where to find the stuff you used to make the sign for your wife i am interested in doing stuff like that, thanks, help me find how to locate the text and symbols you used.
How do you go about ventilation? I use my garage as my workspace and leave the car garage door and 2 walk in doors open while applying/drying, is this more than enough? Should I be okay closing the doors over night with no ventilation to prevent theft.
This was the most informative video I've seen! Answered every question for me, simply! Thank you :)
Can you do this exact same process but with htv? I have heard of ppl having success. They use a small iron to apply.
Unnecessary expense in most cases, imo
What section of the store can the contact brand paper be found. Thanks
Whats the name of the little yellow squishy item you use to rub the transfer tape on the vinyl?
It's a squeegee and in a few days you'll be able to buy that exact item on brilliantvinyl.com. I have spoken to them about carrying that exact item because of the way it's made and they will have them very soon.
So wait...are we supposed to buy from BrilliantVinyl or 651Vinyl?
Notably, the tape referred to isn't on the 651Vinyl site.
Ashley, I think he meant any type of 651 (since it's permanent vinyl) not necessarily the website. :)
What type of vinyl is this?
Troy - where can I get the tool you use to barnish?
in a few days you'll be able to buy that exact item on brilliantvinyl.com. I have spoken to them about carrying that exact item because of the way it's made and they will have them very soon.
Does polycrylic work just as good??
+Stefanie L depends if the stain is oil or water based
TroyTube its water based. It's more expensive but if it's not better the polyurethane is a cheaper route.
Can you use htv?
You can depending on the surface texture but HTV isn't designed for solid surfaces and is more expensive so I'm not sure why you would for something like this.
Which vinyl did you use?
