    Thank you for sharing this. I just wanted to share an idea. My neighbors gave me their leftover pieces of bamboo flooring strips. Since the surface is finished, I didn't have to apply varnish. I ripped the "tongue and groove" edges off with the table saw, then routed all edges with a small curve. I apply tung oil to the raw surfaces, and that brought the natural wood color out. Then it was just a matter of selecting various scripture verses, and adjusting the size(s) to the size of the board. It was such a fun project! (Now I am looking for people who have redone their floors....haha)

      Thank you. I have some flooring left over and was wondering if it would work.
      Great! Off I go.

    I like the final product. It turned out well. My only criticism is that one can still see the marks from the planer blades when it was brought to the thickness. Sometimes they are hard to get out and you just have to live with them. It will depend on the project. I’ve used those boards as well.

  • @PaganWizard

    This turned out really nice. As a long time DIY woodworker, I have experienced that over time, if you do not finish all sides and edges of your project, even if it will remain indoors, fluctuations in temperature, and humidity levels, can cause the wood to cup, warp, or even crack. Finish coating all surfaces will also prevent the finish from peeling as well. You obviously don't have to stain the unseen areas of your project, like the backside of this sign, but I would very strongly recommend you apply the same amount of finish coats (polyurethane) to the backside along with all the other surfaces. It's a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to help preserve your project, and make it last a much longer time.

    I am wanting to do something like this to a cornhole game to decorate it. My question is...I figured I would need to put a polyurethane over the vinyl so that when the cornhole bags were tossed onto the surface and slide on the board that the vinyl doesn’t end up peeling. What are your thoughts on this?

    This was very helpful and informative. I often use waterbased polycrylic after my stain has well dried. However, my stain is oil based. Is there a long term effect on this mix of water/oil based products that I should be worried about? Thank you

    How do you go about ventilation? I use my garage as my workspace and leave the car garage door and 2 walk in doors open while applying/drying, is this more than enough? Should I be okay closing the doors over night with no ventilation to prevent theft.

      It's a squeegee and in a few days you'll be able to buy that exact item on brilliantvinyl.com. I have spoken to them about carrying that exact item because of the way it's made and they will have them very soon.

    Does polycrylic work just as good??

    • @TroyTube

      +Stefanie L depends if the stain is oil or water based

    • @Sweetthang1005
      @Sweetthang1005 Před 7 lety

      TroyTube its water based. It's more expensive but if it's not better the polyurethane is a cheaper route.

    Can you use htv?

    • @TroyTube
      @TroyTube  Před 3 lety

      You can depending on the surface texture but HTV isn't designed for solid surfaces and is more expensive so I'm not sure why you would for something like this.
