- Some 12 years after her first appearance in Home & Away, Maggie returned to the series but this time as Viv 'The Guv' Standish, a disgraced barrister who is now top dog in a women's prison. Although there are comparisons with Officer Ferguson, it later transpires she is an old flame of Alf Stewart's.

Maggie is a fab actress and I follow anything that she has been in, I missed this one though.
Such a masterstroke casting her in this role - the other side of the bars!!
Oh god she was awesome in this too. I love Maggie Kirkpatrick. If we got this show in America and I happened to come across it on TV I would've lost my mind seeing this. She's quality talent & a true original

Maggie Kirkpatrick is playing a character as a prisoner. Her roles has changed from prison guard to a prisoner.

Thanks for uploading this. I don't like Home & Away but as a fan of Prisoner Cell Block H it was good to see Maggie Kirkpatrick in a modern womens prison setting. It looked like it was filmed in a real prison and I liked the hand held camera work. TV really needs to make more prison dramas.
It's a shame they didn't do a character crossover type thing and have Maggie playing the Freak here now behind bars.
Richmond Tiger She is playing the freak, but due to legal reasons, they couldn’t use that name, so renamed her ‘the gov’. The producer of Home and Away at the time was also a producer on Prisoner. He stated this, and included subtle hints to her past, such as the uniforms itching, and friends in high places.

@@mitchellreynolds1277 Ah that actually makes alot of sense. I mean she was Governor of Wentworth for a few episodes so the nickname seems fitting, but also it's 2003 and NSW so it makes sense that Ferguson would've been a little bit calmer after 20 years.
@89chrisj Due to legal reasons they couldn't call her Ferguson, but that's pretty much who she is supposed to be.

@DepressedIrishMan I believe that was the idea. Due to legal reasons they couldn't use the same name, but the script producer of H&A at the time was also a writer on Prisoner, and wrote "The Guv" with "Joan Ferguson years later" in mind - hence the line about the uniforms itching.
How cool! Being a different production company probably complicated matters too
@@DistantCousin it was probably Ten at the time not wanting to give over copyright to the character of Joan Ferguson to Seven. But like that character is clearly Joan Ferguson

Thank you for stringing these scenes together. I'm a big PCBH fan and wanted a glimpse of Kirkpatrick in a different role but she seems to be a "Ferguson" in everything she plays. She's such a good evil bitch and a great actress.
She was a former love interest of Alf Stewart played by Ray Meagher who co starred with her in Prisoner.
Watching this, I have a feeling that Tammin would've made a great addition to Wentworth.

I googled it and see she appeared in 11 episodes as this character, I would love to watch it all but can't find it on the internet. Can you maybe load all the scenes if you have it. Please please, I would love to see it. I stay in South Africa and we don't have have Home and away on our channels :(
They should have made the prison more like Wentworth.

The girl 'Danni' reminds me of Julie Egbert Ryan from 'Prisoner'.

She'd make a great wife for Alf, maybe she could be Governor of the Yabbie Creek Prison or where ever the jail is in Home and Away.

Same actress = yes, Prison setting = yes, same character….not really.
Agreed. This doesn't feel like The Freak; I can't imagine her using any pull to get anybody out. She'd see Dani as defiant but still weak.
i remember the show prisoner from when i was a kid, ferguson used to give me the creeps, still does, wasn't she arrested in the last episode? they should have done a show crossover with Home and Away, her character in prison should have been ferguson.
Maggie is a terific actress. Shes always playing a mean person all the time.

the set would have probably fallen down after a few weeks , would never have made it to home & away . But yeah Maggie is fab

The Freak had a more rough voice, although when Ferguson first turned up at Wentworth she put on this fake posh voice.
I had no idea she was on home and away. Seems as evil as a prisoner and she was the freak lol good job maggie and I have never seen or heard of rhi mondo hill lol

They could have used the Wentworth set.
