      I remember playing MCC for the first time at my friend's place before 343 improved on the matchmaking and everything. It took upwards of 5 minutes to find a game every time. We literally just wanted to play paintball haha. Every standalone game they have made has been mired in mediocrity which is hard to see as an old Bungie fan. Something quite depressing about how Halo 2001-2010 is always used in these types of videos as the reference point to what peak gaming is. Not a criticism, but it’s depressing to remember how good the games used to be and how much care used to be put into the franchise, now it’s just another cash cow for microsoft. They really massacred our boy.

    Great Video - glad it was recommended.
    Tldr: Its suits... the devs know and the QA knows - sorry Im not a native speaker
    I can share a bit of real life lore since I worked in QA Testing for an AA Publisher/Devstudio. In many instances in my opinion it comes down to money and suits (generaly speaking). There are of course "bad" devs who produce shit games, but generally the Devs are passionat (at least in the AA field from my experience). Its a double edged sword with money, since dev teams need money to produce games - the publisher gives them a set amount of money (depending on the contracts) and gives them milestones to achieve.
    Problems arise if milestones arent met since this can mean that Devs wont get their money (pay) or get less (depending on the contract and publisher-dev relation)
    Generally it "doesnt matter" how good you are as a dev, but you will eventually meet a ceilling (from my QA perspective) where you have to double down on your vision either due to it being to big, to complex or it turns out its not fun.
    The devs sometimes have amazing visions and know what to do, but either due to literal skill issues, too low budget to spend or too tight deadlines games get smaller in a
    size, features get cut and the gameplay can get worse (obviously).
    In the end it comes down to your management and how money oriented they are. If the people in charge have a spine (as it was in our company) they will give devs a chance to get the best out of their game and polish them while also making sure the devs wont go too crazy.
    In publicly traded companies like the AAA studios you wont have these managers, since they dont care about the products. Once you get shareholders its not your vision anymore, but that of the people giving you money.
    The devs and QA know everytime whether a game is ready or not, but these kind of managers dont. They just know that money goals arent met and microtransactions could improve revnue by 58391% because LiNe GoEs Up On GrApH.
    This is part of the reason why indie games and AA games wipe the floor with AAA studio productions now.

    • @orngememes
      @orngememes  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey, I just wanted to thank you for your insight dude. The fact you took the time to type all this out is really cool if you especially considering you’re offering us a glimpse into the production of these games. Sometimes I honestly wonder why AAA studios even have QA teams if they’re going to blatantly disregard their feedback like they did with Halo: Infinite. I remember some Halo pros were part of the team and the gave plenty of feedback which was completely ignored. Like others in the comments section have said, indie games really are the move at the moment. Thanks again man, have a good day!

    • @EnzymeEnder
      @EnzymeEnder Před 2 měsíci

      @@orngememes Well I mean the games you think are broken or unplayable are worse before QA. I think there is a misconception what the purpose for QA is generally (cant blame anybody for this). Me and my coworkers would try to break the game, find places where people get stuck, visual issues, soft/hard locks etc. You then write tickets for these issues and the devs have to fix them. You of course also write feedback etc. but all of this is weight against money/time. If the devs are good they fix most of the bugs in time and there arent many critical issues.... if you e.g. have spagetti code or inexperienced devs there can be a couple of a hundred known bugs out of which a dozen a game breaking and every new patch introduces a shit tone more. In these games features get cut, the games get downsized etc. because it could take literal years to fix and wouldnt be worth it for the publisherjjjjjjj who essentially makes no money until the game comes out. It makes sense but is sad.
      There are also certain design choices the devs have the ability to not double down on (talking about AA because this is probably different when it comes to AAA and publicly traded companies; usually gameplay or story stuff to some degree) but also design choices that can be dictated by the publisher (while I dont know this for sure I would imagine that e.g. live service elements fall into that category).

    • @EnzymeEnder
      @EnzymeEnder Před 2 měsíci

      I dont want to demonized devs - they do what they can most of the time and you only know that your vision may be to big once you start to make the game

    ...apparently people in these comments dont know about the tons and tons of indie games that are cheaper,sometimes longer,more creative in both story,visuals and gameplay with free dlc's (mostly) and zero micro transactions.
    are there bad indie games? Yes
    Literally everything has good and bad.
    Csn you get like... 7 or more indie games rather then just 1 mediocre game? Yes
    Most are priced lower then 10$
    Will the graphics be crisp realistic? Mostly no.
    Most indies can be ran on a potato but play basically the same as any AAA game of their respective genre.
    Heres a small list:
    Trepang2 (shotter/horror/you are super human with cloak and slo mo. John wick)
    Serious sam (arena shotter/comedic/weird monsters)
    Cult of the lamb. (dungeon crawler with tons of stuff ....basicaĺly building a cult but cute version. Make your cultists eat poop literally,make em high,marry them and theres stuff still being added like...birthing lol)
    Hades (dungeon crawler with a good story about Gods and cool weapons. Shield is easiest cuz it can block enemies attacks.)
    Cuphead (really hard platformer game 60s cartoon aesthetics.)
    Disco elysium (Really in depth rpg)
    OTXO and Hotline Miami 1&2(Top down shotter and amazing music.)
    MO Astray (A unique 2d platformer with mc being a slime creature in a post apocalipse settimg)
    Soma (An existential 1st person horror game. One of the best I've ever played.)
    999 (A visual novel with branching paths.)
    Blasphemous 1&2 (Souls like 2d game)
    Ghostrunner 1&2 (1st person parkour ninja game focus on melee vs guns.)
    Katana zero ( fast paced 2d game with a weird story. Still waiting for the dlc tho.)
    This was a list of mostly 1 of each genre type.
    And...what i liked personally...im not too big on mmo's or anything without a decent story.
    If you want more games: Best indie games
    A channel dedicated to finding best indie games every month since 2018 ish.
    Theres way way more games that never get seen that are better in any way then the AAA 70$ Micro transaction paid dlc high graphics (that will blow up your console) mediocre or bad story and a lack of a single original bone in its body.

      Hey, thanks for checking out my content! I really appreciate it man. What I’m seeing with the gaming industry is kind of like what happened with the music industry. Before, you had to be this big company with tons of funding to make music with a record label behind you and all. Nowadays, some of my favorite music is made by people in their own bedrooms. We are seeing a similar thing with gaming in that game development is getting more easy for people to get into. Instead of big companies making the best stuff, it’s now those small developers making crazy good experiences. I feel like people are going to get tired of mainstream games just like people get tired of mainstream music. I don’t know just a thought, but I definitely agree with you and we can see plenty examples of indie games outshining AAA games in this year alone.

      None of the games you listed are similar in game play style to AAA games. I only mention it because you said "but play basically the same as any AAA game of their respective genre". There aren't AAA equivalents to most of the games you listed. Niche games made by smaller developers. Also Serious Sam is not an indie franchise and has been around since 2001. Long before indie games existed.

  • @anonymous7564
    @anonymous7564 Před 2 měsíci

    I'll be the person to stop you at 5:40 to elaborate a bit differently here. Although (much) younger audiences had a "wow" factor on armor, the game was rated for 17+, whom cared more about the iterated 1-50 system that was created in the previous entry (Halo 2) over something like "armor in a first person game". Most of the armor was unlocked through basic game play, but the primary foundation here is when you claim "free". Yes, it was free, with the addition of purchasing the game, you had a total of 8 armor sets. What many earlier on use to point out, it was about the "permutations", however, was it? Because in Halo Infinite, this would be an exponential number greater, and this is (and I quote for irony) "not enough". At some point, we need to acknowledge that the armor wasn't that important to the formula, nor was it attractive to most audiences. Most 'casual' multiplayer players didn't care that deeply about the lore to intertangle themselves in this mess.
    Which brings me to a more pressing note around 26:21.
    The Progression System in Halo 3 was 1-50, with an attributed "exp" solution that provided you a secondary military rank depending upon your 1-50 level (Skill Rank). That being said, "armor" was never progression, and the problem with Halo Infinite was having a community full of people that "think" that armor "is" progression, and think that "just playing" denotes progression inside of what would have been a quality experience.
    26:34 I think you need to go back to 2007 - 2009, where most people didn't change their armor, and if they did, they probably were very new to the game.
    27:34 I completed the first battle pass in just shy of 80 games. Most of the 'complete battlepass' relies solely on playing Social matches, particularly labeled as "social" (not 'core' or 'ranked'). In addition, if you play "social", you also progress through your exp progression fast, too, as it's designed strictly as the community intended: To be the focal point of the game (despite having less players than other areas).
    27:45 Well that's the misconception in a way. Most people play games for the game play, correct, but they stay for the reward and progression contributed. Most have an achievement, rather 'goal', they're setting out to hit. When looking at Halo 2, or Halo 3, that was "Achieving a 50". For Halo Infinite, that doesn't exist. Consider for a moment that the failure of Halo typically aligns almost perfectly with "the lack of ranked matchmaking" next to "the lack of integrity".
    Jump quickly back into Halo 1 - Halo 3, and the primary, most important weapons are considered the "competitive weapons", whilst the community argues that the sandbox is 'imbalanced' because their preferred weapon choices aren't as powerful at all times.
    Then quickly now, jump to Halo Infinite and notice the Hammer can kill from a distance, the sword has a lunge almost like Halo 2's, and the AR can outshoot most weapons if you tap shoot, with the Commando acting like the Saw from Halo 4, and you'll quickly notice that the game devolved, over time, to replicate "what the community thinks is Halo" rather than what the player wanted from Halo.
    And we're left in this spot where the game doesn't satisfy truly anyone besides a small minority of players, and the rest are in limbo, not acknowledging that "this is what they wanted" while pretending "it's some pro players fault" that the 18 social playlists are all categorically 'unfun'.
    Keep in mind, Halo 2 had 4-5 social playlists (14 ranked), and Halo 3 had 5-6 social playlists (12+ ranked). 18+ social playlists is a large number when the majority of your height was surrounded by ranked offerings, and numerous videos exist telling 343 in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 "that the next halo needs proper ranked playlists like halo 2 and halo 3".
    27:51 I mean, no, cosmetic rewards in the way they're in Halo Infinite are not an important reward of the gameplay loop. Most of the wanted cosmetics are locked behind paywalls (weapon coatings) or simply do not exist. Most of the 'community' thinks people care deeply about the lore of Halo, while disregarding that the concept of 'casual' defines that the player cares little about the story, or lore, of what they're playing, not 'deeply'.

The thing that corporations fail to understand is that without risk, a product goes stale, and when you have passion and patience, you can make something great that will more than make your sales target. Halo 2 was chaotic, and development hell for Bungie, but it was one of the best selling games of all time because it was great. Story, cinematics, multiplayer. Great video. I will say one thing i notice a lot of these videos dont touch on is the fact that people tend to expect companies to release the same quality product even when its a completely different team.
    Like use SS kill the justice league as an example. The Arkham series had the same director, SS has 3 which is one reason it feels so disjointed.
    Look at who actually makes the games and youll see especially with Microsoft that these larger studios have big turnover. Microsoft has a contractor culture
    If that changes quality will rise naturally.

      I get what you mean but once you get far enough the story does start to open up. Same with the challenge. End game is not necessarily challenging but I would agree that most of the game is a cake walk.

      I get that feeling too. Honestly the best thing you can do for yourself is take some time away from it. If you’re like me and you’ve been playing games throughout your life, sometimes you get burnt out without realizing it. Playing too much just for the sake of it can be a bad thing, so yea. I would say maybe try doing something else for maybe a week or so like another hobby. For me, after that amount of time, I start to get that itch back and gaming becomes more enjoyable again. What’s the old saying? “Distance makes the heart grow fonder,” I think. Anyways, once you’re back maybe you could find a good game to sink your teeth into. Thanks for watching and hope you have a good day!

    gaming in high school and primary school was so much more fun more social features too in MP games. WTF happened this live service shit is garbage and people defending this is baffling. Halo 1 2 3 was bloody amazing and so many good memories on xbox live. The squad I use to play with I actually met on Halo 3 and bad company 2 I met friends and hung out real life after too now a days this is impossible with the lack of social features in a lot of games. Halo infinite needs more social features and game modes still.
    God of war 3 was better then 2018 for me

    • @orngememes
      @orngememes  Před 2 měsíci

      Yoo that is another thing I should have touched on. It is baffling that in games like COD you do not even have replay features anymore, or even the ability to look at a person's K/D. The original Halo trilogy really set the bar high for social features and we have kind of been let down ever since. Also I cannot speak on the earlier God of War games since I have never watched or played them, but I was speaking more on a relevance level. I think the reboot definitely kicked it into the mainstream a bit more but I am sure 3 was a great game as well. Thanks for the comment and for checking my stuff out!

    Id say the downfall of modern gaming ironically started with gta 5, and cod advanced warfare. As these both introduced lots of people who never gamed before into the community, but also started some of the worse consumer malignant trends we continue to see to this day. Back in the early 2000s, rockstar was a large proponent for games to be taken as seriously as films. Up until that point games were seen as juvenile, and for nerds. It was until we started getting games like gta, mass effect, red dead, etc... that people with lots of money started to see it as a viable avenue for gaining profit. This realization happened around the time when cod advanced warfare introduced the loot box craze, further expanded upon by EA with star wars battlefront 2. This introduced predatory practices, targeted at creating sytems that are designed not to be fun, but to keep gamers engaged with a game for as long as possible, so it increases the chances of them spending money on a loot box. All this for the sake of money, reducing the enjoyability of said game. When gta online dropped, it did have shark cards, but the content pool was so barren, the only thing you could really buy that was top dollar was a tank. As time went on and more things were added, they saw more people buying shark cards. As of now its still the most profit turning piece of media put out to this day. Every publisher looked at gta and said, "we gotta do that!", even if the game they were making had no place for any of the things that gta had. This trend became further exasperated by the success of fortnite, normalizing and desensitizing people to this trend. Everyone became gas lit into thinking this was acceptable. Now microtransctions can coexist in a non predatory way, its just rarely ever done, and we have continued to see a drop in quality in favor of making something to churn a profit. I think that its the biggest flaw with gaming now. Im not even going to touch on the cheating, or overly sweaty nature of competitive games, considering thats a small niche that occupies every community, however i will acknowledge it is an issue. Back then toxicity was "wholesome", if that makes any sense. Nowadays toxicity is legitimately mean spirited. Ive found more and more people playing games for an excessive amount of time to be extremely depressed, and play games to help compensate for their lack of motivation or self worth, leading to this malinged toxicity that plagues every game nowadays. Rant over.

    • @LateNightHam
      @LateNightHam Před 2 měsíci

      You call it a rant I call it a valid take. You did fail to mention the sheer success of 2016 overwatch, I feel like that did just as much, if not more, for the loot boxes as AW. People shit on AW for the gun stats but OW got away with it because "it's only cosmetic". The "it's only cosmetic" is a huge psyop by big gaming because "it doesn't affect your stats" so your selling me less of a tangible effect than a shark card because at least shark card make number go up.

    Nah, Dragon Keep and Commander Lilith were the only good BL2 DLCs. The others were either excruciatingly mid (Pirate) or just.. bad (Hammerlock). And cringe writing has been a problem since BL2 (I've never understood why Mr. Torgue is so popular). Even then, they weren't perfect DLCs because BL2 is fundamentally a deeply flawed game (I personally cannot tolerate the game without the UCP, it has that many problems). I definitely think some of your conclusions on BL2 are the product of nostalgia rather than objectivity. I believe BL2 is the weakest of the first three games.

    • @orngememes
      @orngememes  Před 2 měsíci

      I am going to disagree with you on this one. I thoroughly enjoy Borderlands 2 which is why I end up replaying it so much. There are plenty of games I am nostalgic for but do not play as much anymore. For the DLCs, I can agree with you on Hammerlock being a bit boring, but I liked all the other ones a lot. Fair opinion but I personally see BL2 as my favorite.

    • @boyishdude1234

      @@orngememes I never expressed any of my personal feelings or tastes, other than that I find BL2 intolerable without the UCP. I'm being objective when I say I think BL2 is the weakest of the first three games, since whether it is or not has nothing to do with my opinions.
      You can like Borderlands 2 more than the others. That's fine, but that doesn't make it a good game any more than me liking Sonic 06 makes it a good a game. Quality isn't subjective.

    • @orngememes
      @orngememes  Před 2 měsíci

      @@boyishdude1234 look, I’m not trying to argue syntax with you man. We are talking about games here. When you say things like “objective” and “think” in the same sentence though, that’s kind of contradictory. If we look at the sales, Borderlands 2 sold around 22 million copies where 3 sold 19 million. I think Borderlands 2 is far from the weakest game, you “believe” it is. That’s not objective, and it’s fine. I think it’s hard to be objective with games sometimes. Another thing to consider is that BL2 was made in a totally different era with different standards. I have never played with the community patch so I can’t speak on it but it’s fine if you play with that, however it is disingenuous to imply that it is flawed to the point of being the weakest. Have a good day dude

    You generalize and say "modern gaming" but then hyper focus on the Halo series, a AAA FPS series, and thats the problem with these kind of videos, you dont mean "modern gaming", you mean AAA shooters, which is a small minority of AAA games, as a person who only plays shooters if they have RPG mechanics i can say that most AAA shooters over the last 20 years have been horrible

    • @orngememes
      @orngememes  Před 18 dny

      I mean I mention multiple times in the video that AAA games are the ones at fault and that indie games are the way to go at the moment. Not sure if you made it the whole way through but I do end up mentioning that. Also really? You didn't like any of the Halo games, COD games, or CS? I get that shooters aren't everyone's cup of tea but those are some of the most revered games of all time so to say most shooters over the last 20 years have been horrible is kind of an overgeneralization. Anyways, thanks for watching.

    AND in defense of halo infinite the mp is literally free you shouldnt expect it to be good no free to play game is good and all of them have microtransactions out the ass
    And gow2018 is the worst gow game ive ever played only got revied due to people not knowing what it is and it looking pretty but the gameplay is terrible and story wasnt really any good plus they kept rehashing the same boss fights weather if that was mini bosses or using thor multiple times
