Kimi is so consistent when it comes to avoiding crashes. Literally all of his years he kept his crashes to a minimal. 2004 being the most DNF (1 crash and all of it were Mechanical) to 2021 being the most crashes he's ever gotten into (Bahrain, Portugal, Abu Dhabi)
Insanely fast is not always good. The first time he over-corrected and sent the car into an unrecoverable tank slapper. If it was good that wouldn't have happened :/
It seems that his reaction time was close to 60-80 ms after the engine RPM went to max when rear wheels hit the puddle. That's insane! Sadly he over-corrected multiple times - it seems that he was expecting the front wheels to have much less grip for every correction attempt.
Spain 2002, Monaco 2008, Singapore 2008, Britan 2014 and crashes with Alonso in Japan 2012 and Austria 2015 and many others. Not only mechanical failures.
It's all instinct of he spun because of driving over debris or a bump or something like that idk, you could catch the slide or spin relatively quickly and keep going with it
7:10 imagine how scary it must be to be in wet conditions with basically fog around you and F1 cars passing by at 250 km/h, hoping that every one of them will see you in time…
Been following Kimi since his rookie year. It sucks he's leaving Formula 1 and eventhough he isn't considered to be the greatest F1 driver, he'll always be the greatest to me. Thanks Kimi for everything
Well, who knows if he was the most skilled. When he had a car that had real possibilities on winning the championship, only luck and an unreliable McLaren saved Schumi from losing to him a couple times, and 2007 he won, beating Hamilton. So he has proven multiple times to be faster on track on pretty much equally fast cars than those two, that many say are the all time best. Even at 40 he could compete for points and make multiple passes on a race on a slow car. He was also good in WRC setting one fastest stage time and setting decent results without too much rally experience. It can take many years to see another F1 driver do that. Even on his couple NASCAR races he managed to impress by his driving. Look at him passing on the track and how fast and clean his driving was in F1. What had happened if he had the fastest and most reliable car on grid for many years? No one could have done anything. Bottas has the same thing, fast and very clean racing, and he can rally too. Very few mistakes on track. Just don't give him the 2nd car, or 2nd tactics, and he'll be the best. For sure
@@bklydesign There was, but it was placed in such a way it wouldn't provide strong enough barrier if they collided little bit later. Also camera was above barrier, sticking out a little bit, Alonso's tire could have easily hit camera. Logically no one expected such a crash with cars on one another, so placing of the camera seemed safe enough.
Brazil 2016 was really scary, being stationary in the middle of the fog while others are going 160+ MPH. Lucky he wasn't hit head on by another car. That would have been bad, shades of Zanardi at Nazareth 2001.
He never lets the steering wheel go before the impact, he always holds it tight till the end. He must have hurt his hands or wrists several times by doing this ...
Lewis Hamilton does the same thing. Nico Rosberg talked about it before. He believes it’s helped Hamilton during collisions and why he doesnt break suspension holding the wheel, because it doesn’t allow the steering wheel to snap it keeps it steady.
You don't want to do that let's say in Indycar because they don't have power steering. Power steering allows you to hold on to the wheel without serious damage to your wrists, non-power steering will hurt you. OutcastGrim2424 I watched that same clip and Rossberg mentioned the difference between power and non-power steering cars.
@@OutcastGrim2424 Yep, and in that same interview Nico stated that the steering system of a F1 car actually allows you to do that without hurting yourself, but drivers like him don't hold to the steering wheel because of instinct.
