I think sometimes people get hung up on the image quality of the X3 (and now X4) and compare it to the image from "conventional" action cameras like the Hero 12, Action4 and Ace Pro. I think its reasonable to maybe compare the single lens mode go the X cameras to those other cameras, but in that case just get the action camera.
The real strength of the X3/4 is its ability to produce camera angles that would be impossible with a conventional camera (certainly without a ton of planning, extra kit and maybe at least one other person). But bit I do think it works best as a supplementary camera to either a mirrorless camera or something like the Pocket.

having use all various different insta, dji, gopro cameras. if already own X3, no need upgrade to X4, wait for next X-series release with 1" dual lens. for vlog, its better to use pocket3, especially when some area big cameras or tripods are not allowed. for waterproof and interesting shots, go for X4.

I have the X3 for all round shots when outdoors and the DJI OP3. I've filmed so much using the OP3 it's insane. I'm still going through the footage and genuinely seeing entire videos I forgot to upload.
I would only have upgraded from X3 to X4 if there was a decent microphone plug in (not Bluetooth) but a port for the DJIs without all the fussing around. There isn't one so I'll happily stick to my X3.
Also OP3 is not an action camera. So why do people insist on comparing them. The versatility of the OP3 with the creator combo package is just ❤

Easy choice, the Dji Pocket 3 completely crushes the X4 on image quality. There is a lot of talk about 8K blah, blah. But when you reframe, you are left with 2.7K. When it comes to creativity, yes the X4 can be a good choice. But should you save money to go for the X3, I mean yes. Not a big difference.

I place the x4 on my car. Having both they are for different use cases. The dji mic 2 works with the x3 and x4 also through bluetooth like the pocket 3.

Buy what you need to use, pocket 3 for vlogging and slow moving content and video quality, or the X3 or X4 if you like me want it for water sports, you could not use the pocket 3 for Water-sports as not waterproof and you would break the gimbal, yes there is a waterproof case for the pocket 3 but still can not get 360 footage to get the exact viewpoint in your edits so horses for courses. Both great products and live in an age where we can choose.
Ps. I’m of an age that I grew up with a black and white tv in my bedroom and main tv downstairs was all filmed using tape and sent via analog signals to watch at home. People now a days are obsessed over the quality but I like watching for the content and story telling and do not think to myself, wow the quality of this film but get immersed into the enjoyment of content.

i love your comment, content is more more important than the image quality, im also always in this obsession but try to focus on the content!!!

Hi Ryan buddy thx for your thoughts I kind of agree as I've had the x3 but sold it as for me the amount of space the 5.7k takes up on your hard drive for the quality you get wasn't worth it, Im now waiting for the Pocket 3 creator bundle and think its much better value as it comes with a pretty good microphone 🇿🇦 living in 🇳🇴

Already sold my x4 bundle due to the fact the image quality ain’t quite there yet! It’s a good camera for fun but not for anything else really! Love my pocket 3 too much 😉

I already have go pro hero 8 and with screen flip issue and no service center for dji in my country would it be better to buy insta 360 x4. I mostly use it in motor cycle and also travel with lots of walking etc.
So which would be better x4 or pocket 3 creator combo. I can buy x4 now and just wait for dji action 5 which rumours of 1 inch sensor with it.

I think you referred to the X3 a few times when you meant the X4, but that doesn't change the interesting content and your insights. I agree that for most serious videographers, the Pocket 3 would be bought before the X4, but I do feel that the X4 would be another very useful tool to have in the kit for situations where its particular qualities (reframing and suchlike) were needed - for those who can afford both (currently not me, sadly).
Meanwhile, I have developed an obsession with X4 sharpening settings. I know that many serious videographers instinctively reduce sharpness on most cameras, but in the case of the X4 I am increasingly convinced from what I'm seeing on CZcams that using the low sharpness setting is best avoided. I have only seen one person who has provided side by side examples of low, medium and high sharpness (just briefly in a general end-user review), using a middle-distance brick wall as the test image in a static shot. In low sharpness, the bricks turned into a fuzzy mess. I very much doubt if that could be fixed in post-production. In middle sharpness, the individual bricks could clearly be seen. High sharpness didn't seem to do much more.
Is this something you have tested? Do you think it would be worth a test? Personally, I think low sharpness setting on the X4 completely wastes the original 8k 360 capture. Also, it has to be borne in mind that it is likely that the X3 had a 8k sensor but it did not have a CPU capable of processing the 8k image, so it just produced a 5.7K one. Now the X4 has a much more powerful processor, capable of dealing with 4K from each sensor and also capable of doing a whole lot of processing of the image. The result, like it or not, is highly processed, and we can't tell whether perhaps medium sharpness is actually the nearest to the original image data, and perhaps low sharpness is actually a form of degradation, actual blurring. Anyway, thanks for this video, and sorry for the resulting novel...

There could be a work flow problem. Hugh Hou demonstrated that if you use the insta 360 x4 plug in with Adobe premiere the footage is 100x better. He's blaming a shiddy codec in insta 360 studio.

You're correct, apples to oranges. P3 is an excellent camera but X4 is a more versatile camera. We have come to the era where quality of video is not as important as creativity, look at some of professional content creator whom are cinematophers/videographers who can do magic with a 2.7k cameras. Both cameras will depend on use case scenario, I would like something that I'm not afraid to use near water, or drop but still get some pretty cool creative footage.
