Pond scum can be a very big menace to any practicing fish farmer. They are unsightly to look at, they interfere with water quality, and may even affect fish growth.
Thank you for these videos. Your presentations are excellent and I've learned so much. Reading about this simply isn't enough... these demonstrations SHOW me. Thanks again!
Mr, most of our farmers use a blanket tied to a string to remove the culprits, and it has proved effective too. More so, your method is pretty good. Thank you
Excellent video. Might I suggest a shorter pipe at the drain end so that you can effectively drag is perpendicular to the first pipe once you get to the end of the pond. Cheers from Kentucky USA. And your music was uplifting as well.
High amounts of iron can only exist in water due to pollution related to construction, dumpsites or iron mining close to your site. Otherwise under ordinary conditions iron (ferric) may not develop to toxic levels that may affect your fish. However, it also depends on the species of fish. Some are more sensitive than others.
I love this simple method. However the people that created the pond I now own, didn't build it with an overflow pipe. So if I fill the pond to overflow, stupid fish try to swim out!
You can install one by fitting it just above the water level. Then when skimming, you draw the scum towards this pipe. Bur remember to put a screen to prevent the fish from escaping through the pipe.
