thank you! I tried to follow written tutorials but kept failing. This helped me to finally get it to work. Although Apple should seriously make this a built in feature. I am surprised they haven't yet.

remove all spaces, commas or other characters in the title. You can only use letters, hyphens or dashs.

I have tried a dozen ways to get this to work and I keep getting errors. Incredibly frustrating. Bottom line is these instructions don't work with my current Ventura 13 OS.

After entering the password, I keep getting this error "zip error: Nothing to do!" Any idea what's going on? The file name is typed correctly. zip -er .zip

I like the easy-to-follow instructions BUT when I got to the line with the key for password, I couldn't enter anything at all.

Hi Kathleen, even though you don't see anything being typed on the Terminal screen, it is in fact recognizes your key strokes. So when you type it and press enter, it will ask you to verify the password. once you've verified it, it should work when you try to open the .zip file. Hope this helps!

I tried this and get to the step of asking for the password with the little key symbol, but am unable to enter the password. Nothing happens when I type. When I hit enter, it asks to verify password, so I type the password again and it responds: name not matched.

I tried this, copied it to a usb drive, put it into a windows 10 computer, and unzipped it without it asking me for the password. Only my Mac asked for the password.

Same. Or better say, it shows you all the files inside the folder and ask for password only when you try to open them. Still useful but no privacy.
